    Why do people always call these keys "laser cut"? They're clearly just milled.

    • @Wiresgalore
      @Wiresgalore 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I tried looking that up some time back out of curiosity, to no avail. Probably just another internal industry jargon term that took hold cause it sounded super cool and secure at the time.

      Blame gone in 60 seconds with nick cage. They hold three slider keys up and call them that. It's back and forth in the movie a ton.

      Marketing gimmick that stuck. Someone threw the word laser into it to make it sound special. Other examples of marketing-names that stuck or became seem as universal terms bubble wrap, it's actually a trade mark Sealed Air Corporation.

      Łukasz Piotrowski, they only employ people named “Laser” to make the keys, therefore, “Laser, cut”

    One thing i always notice when you or lpl are picking is the general reliance on feeling the core begin to turn etc. If some one comes up with a way to make a core that can disconnect from the actuator when your trying to pick and generate a false pick situation your pretty well sol and it shouldn't be to hard of a device to make just need some sort of trap pin set up that retracts and separates the cylinder from the actuator while allowing it to turn. A cylinder in a cylinder set up maybe?

    I have several Vidmar locks I need to try this on. I find them very hard to SPP. They might not respond well though as sliders drop down to almost the bottom of the key way. With this method you might not randomly get under them.

    It seems like there is a degree of uncertainty about how long it might take to complete picking by virtue of the randomness of the technique. For an experienced lock picker it might not be an impediment but for the average thief under pressure to get it open quickly it might be.

  • @BD90..

    It looks like a generic Chinese made slider lock with a branded outer. But what makes me doubt that a bit is the keyhole profile.

      I am guessing the mill uses lasers for guidance to ensure accuracy of the cut. Obviously, that doesn't mean the same thing, but it's the only way I can make sense of it.

    Just don't do it on a car door, you pick it once, and turn it partially and the sliders fall back into place and if you are unable to pick it a second time, the lock is rendered useless. If you pick it to open, you will have to pick it a 3rd time to reset to the default position. Stick to padlocks, or buy cheap generic chinese car door equivalents.
