    Some girls like jewelry. I like backpacking stoves:) I find Jetboil is extremely efficient although I find them cumbersome. One positive about this stove is that you don’t have to unscrew it, which can be hard sometimes once the water boils and you want to pour. Heck, sometimes I have to keep the whole unit together to pour the boiling water out. I’m definitely going to have to get one of these. Great video. Thanks for your honesty.

      I think I could spend less money on all the backpacking stoves I want than my wife can on jewelry XD Love that you don't have to unscrew it too. Last thing you need in the backcountry is burns on your hangs from boiling water trying to unscrew. Thanks for the love, Lisa :D

    Their website claims that each 100g canister of fuel can boil about 12L of water. 1L = 4cups so that's about 24 meals. I have the MiniMo and it's one of my favourite parts of my kit. As a beginner, there are lots of challenges when camping/hiking and I'm just not ready to have food be one of them. Having the jet boil removes any uncertainty that I might have had about meals and has given me the confidence to get out and try. I highly recommend it.

      The Stanley Adventure Cook Kit really is a solid cook pot for $10-15.
      My only complaints with it are it’s so tall and narrow, I feel like it’s going to tip while cooking, even though I’ve never tipped it. And, the small fuel cans fit so snug inside when you store it that they make a vacuum and are a pain to get out.

    • @JeremiahStringer

      Not a dumb question at all. This pot can’t be used over anything but a stove. It has little ribs around the bottom that are supposed to spread the heat out along the bottom for a more effective boil and the welds would probably come loose over a fire. My other cook pots I use on stoves and over fires

    Great video to introduce the new stove. I have a Jetboil Sumo and have no complaints at all. With respect to prices, although North Americans may feel Jetboils are costly, in England the price, if you convert it to dollars is almost TWICE what you would pay in the U.S. or Canada for the same stove! What I am REALLY hoping for is that Jet Boil sells the pot on it's own. I need another stove like I need another hole in my head... or anywhere on my body. The Stash pot teamed up with a Soto Amicus or Windmaster (both of which I own)... Yup, I'd do that. As it is, I just ordered an Olicamp XTS pot. A tad heavier that the Stash, but the savings in fuel is real. I own an old Primus Eta heat-exchanger pot, and it uses roughly half the fuel of my other pots (like a Toaks 640mL) to boil the same amount of water.
    Great video Jeremiah. Always a pleasure watching you.

    • @azclaimjumper
      @azclaimjumper 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      NO way is Jetboil going to sell you or anyone else just the Stash POT. If you want the Stash Pot you're going to have to buy the entire STASH Jetboil system, EVERYTHING.

    • @Rashoop
      @Rashoop 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@azclaimjumper I wouldn't be so fast to say "no way". People who buy the kit may damage their pot, and I'm thinking a replacement will be offered. To have to buy the entire kit again... Yikes. My hunch is that it will be a while though before it's offered. AND, another hunch is that it will NOT be inexpensive, maybe $50-$60. For now, I'll go with the Olicamp XTS, which I picked up from Amazon for $28. A little heavier than the Stash pot. And, I anticipate only using the HX-style pot when fuel efficiency is critical. Otherwise, it'll be my 650 ml (not 640, as I mistakenly typed before) pot.

Call me old school but I've always hiked with "light weight" collapsible rocket stoves then upgraded to a titanium folding wood burning stove thats almost 7oz because I always like burning wood instead of having to carry fuel.. but relying on wood can be a PITA and takes a lot of time (took me 10 years to realize this..) i think ill be making the switch to the jet boil stash and keep the wood burning for the survival gear

    Smaller and lighter is good bit it still doesn't overcome my biggest hangup about Jetboil systems. My hangup is, you can't use the Jetboil pot on a wood stove or campfire. If you have a stove issue or run out of fuel, you're hosed.
    What I'm interested to see Jetboil make is a removable or modular flex ring. As long as it's a part of the pot you're limited in how you can use the pot. And $130 for a pot and stove is crazy expensive.

      If heat exchangers really lowered boil times & reduced fuel usage then WHY hasn't Soto come out with heat exchangers/fluxrings on the bottom of their pots. That SHOULD tell you something.
      Soto is THE company that first designed, engineered, & manufactured fuel efficient canister stoves with REGULATORS.
      THINK ABOUT THIS.

      Your so-called "budget" stoves are going to be way less efficient than more expensive stoves with "Regulators" so you'll pay less for the stove but pay way more in fuel costs - and overall the so-called "Budget" stove will cost you way more in the long run because if much higher fuel usage.

    Great review! Enjoyed the unboxing and honesty about this product.
    It looks to me like jet boil just copied the system most of use are already using, but the compact kit would make it a great gift..
    Field testing would be intresting. Like you said about the pot, one size does not fit all. Some packets of food need more water. If you went for a 2 or 3 day trip, or a couple overnighter, how much fuel are you really using? Will the fuel that I have available gunk up the stove with repeated use? (that would be a question for Jetboil)

    Do you know the BTU output? I think the “Mighty Moe” is around 10,000 btu. The flux ring around the bottom is a jet boil patent to dissipate the heat evenly across the bottom surface. They allow fast heat up! Did I say fast? The notch to hold the flux ring in place is nice. Other Jetboil flux ring products should fit on the stove notches as well, or so it appears. Thank for taking the time, great video. Unpacking is great as long as you go beyond the unpacking to using the product, as you did.

      Do yourself & your fuel canister a favor. Cover your canister with the toe end of an old worn out sock. Add a small hole at the end of the sock so you can screw the stove into the canister. The sock will prevent condensation from forming on the outside of the canister when the stove is consuming fuel + a sock covered canister is easier to sleep with inside your sleeping bag.

    Interesting video, however, as you stated, you've not compared fuel consumption & boil times vs any other stoves or pot combinations. You've not even compared the Stash vs the stove & pots you already have.
    I rec'd my Fire-Maple 1L Aluminum heat exchanger pot this afternoon.
    I ran 3 complete comparison tests between the new heat exchanger pot & the one I've been using which is a 750ml Titanium Toaks.
    I have & used my Soto Windmaster stove. For all tests, I turned the stove's heat output control wide open. Yes, I added the same volume of water (24oz) that was the same temperature to both pots in all 3 comparison tests.
    Boil times & fuel consumption between the 2 pots were infinitesimally inconsequential.
    I'm planning to return the new heat exchanger pot to amazon tomorrow that I paid $32.75 for.
    Not what I was expecting. Adverting/Promotion claims of 25%-30% lower boil times & fuel savings have no more substance to them than the tooth fairy. Definitely not worth the added cost or weight.
    Curiously, Soto hasn't marketed any Heat Exchanger type of pots to compete against the Jetboil Stash system which is specifically designed for solo hikers/backpackers/thru-hikers. Considering that Soto is THE company that first introduced fuel-efficient stoves with "Regulators" you'd think if heat exchanger pots actually resulted in lower boil times & significant fuel savings they would have been one of the first companies to introduce heat exchangers on their pots. That SHOULD tell you something. Just a thought/observation.
    I'm hoping others will compare the pot they've been using with an aftermarket Heat Exchanger type of pot. I eagerly look forward to their test results.

    Very interesting. Jetboil hasn't really found a good home in the UL community. Systems like the Flash just really aren't that light, they're big and cumbersome, and in many tests they don't even come out ahead on fuel efficiency. The Stash is a getting closer though. At 7.1 oz, it's still not quite a BRS+Toaks 650 (4 oz). But it get's close to an MSR PRD+Toaks 650 (6.5 oz). A head to head comparison to a better stove like the MSR PRD would be interesting as the PRD has a regulator so will give more even performance over the life of the fuel canister. The PRD has has a higher BTU rating so boil time / efficiency would be an interesting comparison as well. (Note, like all of their other stoves, Jetboil uses .5 liters of water (about 2 cups) for their boil times).
