    I relate so much!! I’m from Brazil and we don’t really get to have art class in school so I feel so disadvantaged from people from first world countries 😅 So so glad you got in!! Good luck !!

Eu que sempre me esforçava pra fazer o melhor possível... Agora tô me virando pra aprender as coisas e eu espero que dê certo

    When you said you realized you wanted to get into CalArts by the end of your junior year I swear I felt the same pain. I didn’t realize I wanted to go to art school until the end of sophomore year and I’m still scared as hell to apply in a few months. I’m no where near being able to feel confident in getting into this school. Still, It’s nice to see and be able to relate to someone. Congrats!!!

    • @tctakili

      I understand completely! It was really scary for me too because I saw all these people on TH-cam that looked like they’ve prepared since who knows how long and I’m here late to the ride. I still made it in the end somehow so I think you definitely should give it a shot! Good luck ✊

    Your portfolio is awesome :D and congrats on getting into CA!! I’m a sophomore in HS rn and ringling has been my goal school since like the 5th grade 😭 I was wondering what grade you were In when you made most of these pieces? I’m not sure if I should be trying to build out a portfolio now or if I’m late to start 😅Also I’m looking to get into digital art and wondering what tablet/program you used. Whatever I have to do I’m just really committed and want to be In animation so badly! Thank you and congrats again :-))

    Hi! Great video! Hopefully not the last one but I know you will be super busy from now on. I graduated from RISD and I noticed you said you don't know how you got into CalArts and maybe I can help? Obviously if you don't care about my opinion feel free to not read the rest, after all you didn't ask for it and it will probably be long-ish. I know when I got accepted into RISD I wanted to know why and wished someone gave me some ease of mind about that. Also maybe someone who is applying into an art school will read this and will help them idk. Also my opinions are only about commercial arts (illustration, animation, etc.) and even then are super broad so they will not apply to every single art school.
    STYLE: You mentioned that style isn't really important and I agree 100% A lot of people put a lot of effort into finding their style and ignore the fundamentals. They also fail to consider that a lot of very successful artists will have to learn how to mimic multiple art styles, especially in animation.
    FOUNDATION (fundamentals): You still have a lot of room to grow in terms of your foundation as an artist (which is perfectly acceptable as someone who hasn't even gone to art school, this isn't a criticism) but you do have the beginnings of a strong foundation which I don't think a lot of people have. I was actually surprised at what you thought your strongest and weakest pieces are because I thought the room interior design is actually lovely. It has a lot of personality and a decent grasp on perspective. A lot of people won't even attempt to get started on perspective or anatomy and the fact that you are already working on it is a big plus.
    STORY: This is a big one for CalArts' character design course and I would argue it's the strongest part of your portfolio. The character designs show that you are very familiar with that historic aesthetic which is very helpful in world building. Your background designs are specific enough to be from a believable world. Even your life studies show a lot of emotion while remaining pretty simple.
    Congrats on getting into CalArts! You really deserve it! If you wanna chat more about your portfolio or something you're working on lemme know!

    congrats on getting into so many great schools !! i have a question - how do you do studies if the subjects are always moving? like your study of jiufen old street or your birds? i want to stop drawing environments from pictures but every time i draw moving subjects i get frustrated lmao

    • @tctakili
      @tctakili  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! I do a really fast sketch (more like scribble tbh XD) of the things I know that are going to move then once I capture that I move onto shading/coloring by observing them ! So usually it’s the humans first then the environment theyre in because the background is less likely to change

    Do you think Calarts prefers if you have your creative works to be following one story line? I have heard people say that they like to see multiple ideas, but since you got in following one storyline, do you think that it is actually better to do it that way?

    • @tctakili

    • @tctakili
      @tctakili  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      i don’t think i was great at it since im self taught. i attached my demo reel in the description so u can b the judge XD. you don’t need to know how to animate since they’re teaching u that there but if u have some animations that you’re proud of then adding them to ur portfolio wouldn’t hurt :))

    or rather, what's the best app, tool etc. for making an art portfolio?

    • @tctakili
      @tctakili  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean the apps I used to create the pieces : procreate, adobe photoshop, AE, Adobe animate
      For the portfolio itself the schools use diff platforms of their own creation that i had to upload my pieces onto.

      Hi I used procreate, after effects, adobe animate, and animation desk. I recommend using animate and after effects but they’re quite expensive so procreate does well too. Animation desk is free but has limited features. For adding audio I just use iMovie
