Sorry, I have to disagree about the Maytag being number 2.. The plastic door window, door hinges and front panel assembly that just wobble and creak, HIPS plastic abounds where LG would use Polypropylene, belt drive, no conformal coating on control board... typical abysmal Whirlpool union build quality. Not as bad as their buzz-box tin-can top loaders, but not top 3, I'm afraid.
Get a washer with the least gadget, don't overload, replace fabric softener with vinegar, leave the door and detergent tray open when not in use.
never get LG or samsung.
