The two guys on the left definitely had neck pain after this concert. Also... Hindustani Classical Music does not need "reinvention". It needs to preserved in its true form
Indian Classical Music already has a lot of treasures...no need of renovation. .....only the treasures have to be exposed and presented in a variety of ways by musicians. ....that's all!
Magic fingers! Perfect coordination . Clearly shows how much hardwork you guys would have done to put such a show ! Wish I had a group to play such a beautiful composition.
They have inspired me. They have captured my musical soul. I have seen this video countless times and love their skill and compositions. Because of this group and many others i have bought my very first set of Tabla and now carry forward on my musical journey.
As someone learning to play the tabla, this is most inspirational! I can't explain how much I love this, I want to give up my day job and join these guys!!
I am a huge fan of Ustad Shauqat ji, a tabla maestro and Ustad Zakir Hussain ji, another great legend. I loved this group, their talent, and their enthusiasm!!
The introduction by Heena have been edited in this video. She actually provided reasoning for the statement (such as broadening its audiences, creating new markets, providing sustainability for it artists, etc). Panditji motivation was to make classical relevant for larger audiences - a recognition that music evolves with time (as has classical --> thats how the gharanas came into being) and doing so while respecting and retaining ethos and nuances of tradition.
One can not help but disagree with the a sweeping statement in the introduction stating that Indian classical music needs re-invigoration. Is this simply a case of miscommunication or misunderstanding? I wonder.
My heart swells with joy and the soul soars up into the heavens when I see the young generation who have taken up our ancient art forms. God bless them all. Jug jug jiyo my dear fellows! 👌🥰🙏
Even Ustad Zakir Husain hated to be referred to as 'Ustad' while his father Ustad Allarakha Khan was alive. So, it's kind of bad in taste when this lad is referred to as Pandit. As musicians we must respect the dignity of such salutations.
This ensemble uses elements of classical Indian music in a formal composition with spaces for variation and flare within the structure, but still a more formal structure than we've come to expect from the music. That doesn't mean it is less than happenin', but don't compare apples and oranges simply because they both grow on trees. This is a celebratory new way to approach and enjoy the tabla, but it does not in any way take away from a more traditional, improvisational accompaniment.
we have had many world famous Tabla players ,classical n commercial ,like sankar ghosh ,swapan chowdhury ,allarakha ji ,keramatulla ji ,hiren babu ,samtaprasad ,bikram ghosh ,tanmoy ,sanjay mukherjee ,the great radha kanta nandy ,husband of sipra bose (sorry ,i have forgotten his name )and many others tabla players ,we have heard their playing with our the great vocal n instrumental artists ,or their solo playing ,and we r proud to see them ,but when on TV ,the camera does not show their playing style ,they show only the vocal artist in verious side of camera ,actually Tabla makes a song or instrument complete ,without tabla no body will hear any song or instrument ,still tabla is a secondclass passenger ,
Amazing! I had heard them at theBLUE FROG some years back. Do you know that these four tablas can turn out a full Mozart or a Beethovev Symphony on. These instruments?
Come on... Reinvention??? first of all that lady has to learn to play the harmonium... She messed so many times in the lehra... Indian Classical Music is not in need of reinvention, it needs popularisation; that's it
You must be a galaxy-class musician and authority. "That lady" Heena Patel is a phenomenal tabla master, but with the prevalence of derogatory misogynist comments below videos of and about her, I avoid these comment sections....... yours happened to be visible, and sure enough it's a lashing toward a female musician. Considering the prevalence of misogyny in your culture and the pointless 988 dislikes, I'm inclined to believe it's a case of little tiny males tormented by chics with such immense talent and beauty. Scary, aren't they? I often told late friend/singer/guitarist/mural artist Eva Cassidy she was "terrifying". Your contribution does little toward "popularisation"; snobbery gets you nowhere. Did you notice a red line beneath that word but went ahead and left it as "good enough"? Try a "z".)
It is utter nonsense to suggest Hindustani Classical Music needs revitalisation .. This form of music has existed for not hundreds of years but thousands and continues to evolve. This is the cycle of music. Classical means it remains true to it's traditional form and structure. It can be flared up through improvisation and individuals artistry and skills. Manish Parmar, UK.
Innovation without much substance.Classical problem with Indian origin people living in the west who suffer from 'messiah syndrome'- trying to bring in change where none is needed.Indian classical music needs no reinvention. All the great maestros of the Indian classical musical tradition have been reinventing Indian classical music for a long time.Maestros like Ustad Ali Akbar Khan , Pandit Ravi Shankar were already reinventing Indian classical music in 20th century and many maestros before them were doing the same thing. The tradition has survived for thousands of years because of long lasting innovation and reinvention. The future generations will do the same. The tradition will be preserved and it will also expand. The signs are already there. Indian instruments are already very popular in countries like US, Japan etc.
The two guys on the left definitely had neck pain after this concert.
Also... Hindustani Classical Music does not need "reinvention". It needs to preserved in its true form
The very fact that Anoushka prefers to perform abroad is a testament to the fact that we need reinvention.

As someone learning to play the tabla, this is most inspirational! I can't explain how much I love this, I want to give up my day job and join these guys!!
Abdul Shohid yes l m also
I second you.
Being a tabla player i can say don't look at harmonium player and look at this awesome players .....
Not sure why you said that.. Lehra is the road where a percussion travel.. Zakir sahab himself tells that sarengi or harmonium makes the road easier.

jst hands down........speechless....long live indian classical music

Pandit is not referred to the people who played here. Its their Guruji Pandit Divyang Vakil. His son is one of the Player here - Rushi Vakil
P Das idiot...pandit is degree in music which you get after Visharad after passing the subsequent exams ....later degrees are shastri etc.

Ishan Tiwari you are right but at least they had tried... and in think they had tried their level best...
Yes. But bad try is not good. It spreads false meaning when it comes to global recognition of Indian classical music.
Exactly..
atleast the table was FUCKING AMAZING HOLY FUCK MY NECK HURTS FROM HEADBANGING lol
