  • This video explains that the Sanskrit word viparita means "inward", and karani means "action" so viparita karani is a practice of inward action. This mudra looks very similar to sarvangasana, but the major difference is the angle of the back to the floor. Here, your back and legs are at a 45-degree angle to the floor, which means that the throat is not completely blocked, so the blood can flow more freely to the brain. In this powerful practice, you are visualizing the energy path from the root of the spine to the crown of the head. With every inhalation, the prana is going up to the crown of the head and with every exhalation the prana is going down through the spine. In this way, the awareness is rotated during the practice.
