JBL PRX One. Great portable system, decent power, and great for DJs. Thats about it. I just bought one and I tried to love it, but Im selling it straight away. This system is terrible for bands. There is almost no low mids in the sound. Its just a big smiley face eq sound with huge low end, and average top end. The onboard eq was useless. I had to make extreme eq curves in the top end just to stop it sounding like someone had put a blanket over the speaker. Run it thru its paces against the EV Evolve 50 and although the JBL has a more power, the EV sounded crisp, the bottom end was punchy and tight, and the top end was way more open. If using for a band, Id advise going into the store and comparing this system with other systems. Wood boxes make a huge difference!

Thanks dude, it's been a bit of a minefield for myself (Solo singer/acoustic guitar & occasional guest vocal/guitar) choosing a decent PA with decent power output, portability & sound for me to use for gigs, but your reviews & demos have been a HUGE help in helping me choose
I'm still shocked by the lack of inputs & EQ control on some of the other 'offerings' from some of the big name manufacturers, but these JBL's look like the best so far in my budget

@@opaz. Thanks man, do you think this PRX would be the ideal one for me and my setup criteria as described above?
I'm just a bit worried about only having the one speaker to carry the whole sound, I'd say most of the gigs I'll be doing will be in small to average sized pubs/venues with just an acoustic guitar & a mic, that kind of thing, do you think this PRX one would be up for the job?
Basically, I don't want to have to push the PA to the max to get heard in a busy pub/bar/room if you know what I mean?

Kudos for the honest "after a year review". Just a slight comment: packaging , transport, unloading and setting to a place any speaker is also very important for their extended life. Allow me to share that now days consumers are NOT following manufacturer instructions of maintenance, care of equipment and respective safety notes that will immediately impact the equipment performance or reduce the life span. By the way..one of the MOST bad habits of consumers is using a NOT outdoor rated speakers while direct sunlight(outdoors). 99% of electronic equipment manufacturer manual does say "DO NOT USE WITH DIRECT SUNLIGHT". I have seen other reviews pin pointing speakers weaknesses, failures, overheating etc. Basically those issues are because refused to read instruction manuals or buy an affordable speaker and expected to do same like a premier speaker. Once again! Kudos for the review..You getting lot better :). Thank you

Bought my Evolve 50 over 5 years ago, great pa but sound lacks mids
I did demo the 44G2 (way too heavy, way too expensive and under-equipped)

Tell you the truth Marcus, it differs from venue to venue and my positioning setup in every event.
There is no right or wrong. All dj's will have a different idea of the sound that they're comfortable with and want to achieve at their event. I hear of dj's running multi subs indoors, I've never ever personally found that necessary in over 70 venues nationwide.
You are in charge of your sound and the expert of what you need to hear. If you still are at a loose end, start with everything flat eq at an event/venue and adjust controls to a point where you feel happy with what you're hearing.

hello Opaz, first of all thank you for your work on this channel that I just discovered.
I am DJ mainly for private, wedding etc.
Basically I wanted to go with the Ld 28g2 mainly for portability, because I admit I'm a little tired of carrying around big subwoofers.
I was able to test a pair of 28g2 yesterday... the sound is relatively clear and good but I'm not satisfied with the double 8". the sound lacks depth for my taste.
I looked at the 44g2 but too expensive I think.
I heard about this famous prx one, I don't necessarily need all the inputs, usually I only use the XLR input, so it's not a priority argument.
my question is mainly about the sound part, is the prx one as clear as the LD? the bass is sufficient to mix any type of music ranging from hip hop to house and electro for example.
In advance I thank you, do not hesitate to direct me to other systems if necessary.

I think the prx one is fine for all of my events. If you have watched the upload, you'll already know this. I also have an evolve 50 (not the M). This is another very capable pa but also more expensive than the 28g2.
I have never listened to the 28g2. Give the evolve 30 & 50, the evox J8, the prx, or the pro8 a listen. I haven't listened to them all but they are worth a demo. I chased much more expensive systems, wasting money realising they were not for me. I agree with you on the 44g2

Hi! Nice reviews on this channel! After watching this video I'm wondering about buying 2 of JBLs PRX, but yesterday I almost decided to buy 2 RCF HDM 45-A, also after watching your video! :D I have Soundcraft ui24r digital mixer and planning to buy one nice PA system to use it for years. I always borrowed some older ones like Yamaha DXR15 or RCF 4PRO 3031-A (or 2031-A) and various subs from my friends, to mix live gigs (outdoor - small festivals and indoor - wedding bands, also quite frequently worship music in old churches with very long reverberation time). It was kind of OK, but i want to bring my sound to another level and I'm looking for a good solution. Could you compare them to HDMs in option with and without sub like RCF 8003-AS II? Also looking for nice budget friendly stage monitors/sidefills...

Although I have both, can't really compare the two. If I had to choose it would be PRX. I could cover far more variety of my events with that option. I think you are looking for more of a complete system rather than the 2X HDM's.

Is there any midrange in those 12 speakers in the column? Im eyeing on those as a karaoke speaker but my concern the presence of a midrange speaker will be good addition. but in the mixer, it says you can control the mids?….

Any valid reason to choose es1203 over this? Been thinking about getting 2 ES1203's or ES1002's.

@opaz. so the es1203/es1002 will still outperform the jbl prx one? I don't need all the inputs. Frankly, I'd be fine with the evox12 but if the ES units are a step up from the Evox, I want those.

Hi there I’m in the market for one of these but have been put off by the whole app not working and no support issues people seem to be having . Can ALL of the functionality of the app be done from the unit ? If so I think it’s still my front runner
Would you still recommend in 2024??
    Cheers

From day one, I have never used the app. I never want to rely on any app especially at my events. I had seriously lately considered the LD Maui 28 G3 Mix that is now available but think I'll stick with the PRX One. I have two of them and they still earn me very good money

Depends what you are using it for. This summer I used two for a 700 people wedding indoors. I got paid, I got two more bookings from that event and the venue booked me for eight more weddings at that venue (actually eleven bookings but three were double bookings of weddings I was booked for elsewhere.

Does the PRX one sounds better than the DB es1203?

    • @opaz.
      @opaz.  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

They both sound good in their own way, dB more power but not as compact and lightweight. For dj purposes, you'll only need one ES1203 for a stereo pa. You can get it in white and it comes with all padded bags

If you need a lot of inputs with dsp on all channel prx one solve many problems but I've had 3 weeks and I returned because the limiter on the sub start to appear at 60-70% of the volume. You can push the volume more, the column is loud and sound good but the sub can't follow the volume of the column.
The second problem, the main to be honest is the vertical dispersion, if you sit down in a chair you are going to loose a lot of high frequencies..
The 1203 is heavier but it's like to have 2 prx splitting the tops and a big advantage is the adjustable pole, change height and turn the speaker without move the sub.
But recently I bough 2 rcf j8. They sound better, and using 2 they are even louder than a 1203.
      Great value for money.
One j8 and one j8mix 1900 euro total. 24 kg each and easy to carry because the column is inside the back of the sub

    • @opaz.
      @opaz.  2 ปีที่แล้ว

The sitting down/frequencies dispersion argument. I play music to people standing up, 😆 those that are dancing. The ones sitting are not sitting due to frequencies. They're still tapping their feet and bopping their heads. Work the crowd and they get up, play their request and they get up, play the banger and they're up. They're not sitting because of lack of frequencies
With 8's, 10's or 12's high up and angled down on poles or above subs . .. same issue if sitting close to the pa??? . .. was never an issue with HF high up on poles back then or now
Great pa the jmix8 but ever since i had the Evolve 50 in 2017 with the lightning speed setup/take down i can't go back to poles and cables which is why i haven't used my ES1203 for ages, maybe 11 months.
      Enjoy

How are the highs on the PRX One and on the db ES1203? are they warm, smooth and gentle?
I now have an EV50M with me and about to return it. I can't stand how sharp and harsh the highs on the EV50 are. Also, the mids are lacking on 50, and I miss them.
Wondering if the es1203 highs are softer and easier on the ears? ... Also what about the highs and the mids of PRX One? I"m looking for more of a HiFi sounding set and joy of listening. I've also had an EON ONE MK2 for a month, and that was surprisingly good - while not the most accurate reproduction and not the loudest, the EON ONE MK2 appears to be a very balanced speaker with a powerful DSP. After setting the EQs the way I like them, I rarely reach out to lower the volume on the EON ONE MK2, unlike the on the EV50 where I often want to reduce the level, due to the harsh & sterile sound it delivers. It doesn't matter what EQ settings I use with the EV50, it's always "too much". I need a better speaker, and louder than EON ONE MK2.
Which of the speakers that you know delivers more balanced, warm and soft sound with more of a HiFi signature, yet loud and powerful - is it the PRX One, the ES1203, or something else.
    Thanks!

Five years ago i mentioned in my upload/review of my Evolve 50 that it lacks mids, seems like the 50M suffers the same problem. Have you tried using the pa in the "Live" preset?
I haven't used my ES1203 for a while but was very happy with output and sound. The prx is still my number one choice for portability, spec, sound and I'm happy with all freq's. Maybe you should demo both and many more to find what you're looking for

    • @kaanou12
      @kaanou12 ปีที่แล้ว

The Live Preset makes it a bit less harsh, yes. But it's far from bringing me listening pleasure and joy. It's loud and can run a party - that's for sure.
I'll demo the PRX more deeply. There's a local shop that has it on demo. The ES1203 I can only demo if I purchase one - thankfully, the EU shops have a return policy for on-line purchases, so I can give it a shot.
I want a PA to use at therapeutic retreats (Osho-type events); Ecstatic Dance sessions; for casual listening when travelling; and also for movie watching. That's why I'm looking for a softer and more HiFi sound signature - want it to be capable to bring joy on moderate volume levels, and also be capable to run loud in a room with 40-50 people, when I need the energy of the crowd to grow high. All my use cases are with sober people only, so harsh PA sound is less suitable, even at the cost of a bit lower DBs.
The 50M is a no go - too harsh, and lacking presence. I'll be checking the PRX and the ES1203 as next steps. EON ONE MK2 is a good fallback option, although a little underpowered.
      Thanks for your response!
