Cool video, love Crowden Clough. You gotta do the littel chimney bit at the end there. Once your up, keep going over the path crossroads and there is a fun little chimney bit. Good place to take a break at the top :-) oh....9 years ago. :-)
+Paul Byrne Thanks for watching Paul, NZ is right at the top of my Bucket List at the moment. would love to spend a month or 2 exploring and visiting a few of the Lord of the Rings locations :-)
Nice to enjoy your agility. Love the water...it's got to be one of the best features of a mountain. Fantastic rugged and spongy land on top there....as you rightly put.
I really enjoyed that route up, it was lots of fun climbing straight up the river / waterfalls. It had dried out a little to what its usually like up there but was still very spongy :-) thanks for watching
Pleasure Dean. I like your videos informative and passionate so to speak. Good for us folk who love the outdoors. Yeah I like the gullies also...never really a well trodden route up for me. They're like another world. All the best Mark (Wye Explorer)
Certainly dramatic and beautiful up there where you are Dean and as for down here there is plenty of adventure and beauty also. Check out some of our own videos. Free will of course. Maybe we'll walk together one day. A nice thought.
Awesome Dean, good to have you back! Looking forward to a few Dark Peak wanders now the weathers favourable myself soon its been years since I was last on Kinder. Certainly looked like you had won with the weather. Thanks for sharing...Atb Nige.
Have watched several of your videos and have enjoyed them all. I’ve never walked in the Dark Peak and am starting to plan for spring next year. Your videos are great guides.
I still love watching this video and all rest rest you’ve made Dean. Just got back from a week in the Peaks, staying as usual in Tideswell and now missing it already. Had to get a quick video shot of my favourite route onto Kinder’s South side to ease the pain of getting back to work. We were going to do the Crowden Clough route again last week but we ran out of time. Did get the Northern Edge done though, we did the whole length of it and it was fantastic. Even a torrent of hail out of nowhere failed to dampen our enjoyment. Nether Red Brook Clough looks like an awesome scramble. Another one for the “Peak District Walk” list that never seems to end. Thank you for your videos and looking forward to anything new you have planned. ATB.
Thanks for watching Greg, sounds like you had a great time in the Peaks. Crowden Clough is a really great route. Haven't been out with the camera much this year for various reasons but I did venture out with it last weekend. Will have to edit that video and upload it soon. All the best, Dean
@@DeanRead Thanks Dean, looking forward to that new video. Yes, we had a great time once again and I am planning the next trip already. Really can’t wait, although we do have lovely countryside here in Sussex, it doesn’t offer the challenges, views or variety of the Peaks. I was looking at Jaggers Clough through my DSLR lens whilst having lunch at Hope Cross last week and thinking it looks like one heck of a scramble near the top. I wonder if it’s worth a try? I’m not too keen on ending up in casualty though 😬
I will definitely give Jaggers Clough a go next time I am up from down South. Also hoping for snow in the February half term break as I would love to pop up for a few days in the snow. Yours and Andy Beavers snow walk videos make it look absolutely stunning. I can but hope and will buy crampons and an ice axe just in case 😀 ATB Greg.
Yet another enjoyable video again Dean , that looks a great walk reminds me of a school trip that I did to kinder scout , quite a few years ago though.
Very good Dean, you're making me want to get up there again. My knees are bad though and while I can get up hills fine, coming down can be miserable for me. I really enjoy watching your rough rambling! :-) All the best Al
Thanks for watching Al, I don't think my knees could have handled coming back down the waterfalls after such a long day without a break beforehand. Hope you manage to get up to the Peaks again soon
Great vid Dean! Indeed, the route between 2:47 & 5:17 is interesting for sure - and don't you dare to leave the Cam behind because of it! :-) Wouldn't love the mudmasters party after 7:23 though. So - the rem's of 2 Sabre jets to be found over there. And 10:25 deserves a still of it's own, don't you think? By the way, even your footage is quite fast paced ... Great!
I was up here on Friday, went from Edale, up Jacob's ladder to the summit and back down through the moors. Visability was about 50 meters and navigating the peat bogs at the top in the pouring rain was pretty difficult. Really enjoyed it though, its definitely not an easy route in bad conditions
Crowden Clough was the route I took my son up on to Kinder for his first visit. But we took the steady route up and down the Clough. Another enjoyable video. 👍
Last time i was up there, it was Nov 2009, we stayed at the YHA in Edale, we went across kinder low jacobs ladder etc, i started out in shorts/t-shirts, got back to the hostel wearing full wet gear, cracking day out tnx for the memories (again ) atb Barry
Thanks for watching Barry, it's always a good day out on Kinder. We were very lucky indeed with the weather, heading out again tomorrow but going to take waterproofs this time just incase
+charliepeebles I think Crowden Clough is perhaps my favourite route up on to Kinder on the southern side, it's great climb up the waterfall. Thanks for watching
Great video dean thank u for all the advice for kinder scout first Time I went up we got very lost and it took 3 hour to get to Jacobs ladder and it was very foggy so we decided to turn back. Next day we came back parked at barbers booth and took 30 min to get to Jacobs ladder cleared that in no time then kept going up till we reached the peat which we got very lost in and eventually got to the kinder summit it took like 7 hours
Great Video Dean, I go to Edale nearly every Friday, I always go up or down a different way just so it doesn't get to boring , Im hoping one day to bump into you and say Hi :)
Did this very same route albeit in the reverse direction last night in total darkness.Glad I did it but would not recommend it. Care and a good torch meant I made the last train back to Manchester. Enjoyed the video. Keep up the good work.
richandiben I totally forgot the GoPro this time, only bother with it now days if weather is bad / underwater / on bike. I do have a head mount / strap which would have been handy for this scramble to keep my handys free :-)
Great Walk Dean, only been up once from Edale- Jacobs Ladder- along the South side and down to Edale stopping in the pub. Up again in May , would you know the easiest way down above Edale as I am walking with more senior folk?
very very inspirational videos dean, in fact so much that you've started me hiking in the peaks travelling from the flats of south lincs !!! including taking my 9 yr old daughter who loves it ! I've taken her on your higgor for trip /dovedale and cress brook dale trips.. i m worried she's too young for kinder though ? thoughts ? Thanks so much for getting us newcomers out and about …keep them coming please
Thank you so much for you're great comment... My daughter did her first wild camp at the age of 9 up on Kinder Scout, there are some gentler routes up which are more suitable for kids. You could perhaps try going up via Jacobs Ladder which gets steep for a short while but it's a well paved track at that point so would be doable. Thanks for watching and I hope you have fun when you next head out into the Glorious Peak District :-)
Dean Read thanks for the informative reply dean :-)once again, you're videos are made with such great passion that it almost feels like watching a tv documentary … maybe a tv channel might snap you up and give you a series on the peak district hey !
That would be a dream come true, until then I'll continue dong these as I love making them. I love the walking, filming, editing and making the music. Would happily do it every day if I had an interesting enough life :-)
Great video bud! I was able to use it for some ground truth, whilst simultaneously looking over the OS map in order to plan a route. I'm taking a newbe friend out (also a Dean) and of course I don't want to put him off or kill him on his first outing. Really helped to be able to show him the ground before hand... good confidence boost! Cheers
Got time to catch up on a few of your videos I have missed lately mate. Looks like you've had some good trips. Crowden looked quite empty. Have a look at one of my videos from last year. The pool at the bottom of the waterfall was bone dry. Have never seen it so empty.
All good here mate, busy as heck at the minute but thankfully managing to fit in some days / nights out. Currently trying to sort out logistics etc for our Australia trip so we can get to see all the family and visit some sites too.
Fingers crossed we will head up the Gold Coast from Sydney then flying to Tasmania to see grandparents. Then Adelaide to see rest of family before returning to Sydney via Canberra
I'd say the Jacob's Ladder route up on to Kinder is probably the easiest. Its all steep but thats probably the easiest route in my opinion. Hope you have a great time
Hi Dean, hope you're well and happy new year to you. A friend and I decided we need to get outdoors more often (new yeas eve after a beer or seven), and we both fancy a bit of walking and/or wild camping. The Peak District is about middle point for us to meet so I've been looking for inspiration, and that has brought me to your TH-cam channel. Thanks in advance, and in the meantime I think I'll carry on researching (sat on the sofa..... lemsip in hand.... watching youtube)

Hi Dean. Want to ask you if you have ever walked the entire Pennine way before? Or done a hike around Europe? I'm unemployed, bored and in need of an adventure
I've done half the Pennine Way from Edale up to Thwaite in the Yorkshire Dales. It was a great experience but need to get myself back to do it all... I did Hadrians Wall last year and have down the West Highland Way 3 times. I have videos on my channel for all of them. The summit certainly does deserve marking, I'm happy for it to remain fairly inconspicuous too so the crowds don't decide to head there too, they can stay over at Kinder Low :-) thanks for watching Scott
