I've actually messaged him before asking him if he's ever tried Lord of Misrule before because it's a very potent patchouli forward fragrance. I think it makes a great enhancer.
Great video, thank you for sharing. Suggestions for other notes to highlight...and I do like the videos you make that do this.... Tobacco, Cognac, Whiskey, Brandy, Iris, Jasmine, Tuberose, Chocolate, Incense, Animalic, Plum, Apple, Cumin, Cloves, Vanilla.
So glad you included 'Remeniscence' Patchouli, even though it is very similar to Jovoy. I think it's super important, both from a historical perspective and from a price point perspective - it's such good value and will always be in my collection, and not only for igniting my love of Patchouli many, many moons ago.. Patchouli Antique by Les Nereides, also, is so worth checking out for anyone that hasn't already. Thanks for sharing a wonderful compilation of patchouli-centric perfumes.
@@ThePerfumeGuy ; Remeniscence have changed their bottles? That's happened previously, and the ones I have presently - the original Patchouli and Patchouli Pour Homme - are both 'second generation' bottles that, I'm glad to say, both smell and perform as the originals. If the bottle design has changed again then, as you say, it'll be interesting to see whether formulations have also changed or continue to remain true to the original. In particular I'd be horrified if the original Patchouli has changed - that would be an absolute travesty! I'll be re-purchasing (the original) Patchouli within the next few months, ahead of the 2024 autumn/winter season, so I guess I'll find out soon enough..
@@ThePerfumeGuy Hi Sebastion. I've seen the new 'third generation' bottles / packaging, and noticed that the name has seemingly changed from simply 'Patchouli' to 'Le Patchouli', although the note breakdown appears the very same - so I hope the formulation remains unchanged, also. For what it's worth, I've just purchased a new 100ml bottle and it was the same 'second generation' as before, so I can't testify to the formulation of the new 'Le Patchouli' incarnation. I should imagine stockists will still have (quite possibly) plenty of 'second generation' bottles still to move on, certainly if my new purchase is anything to go by. Stay healthy and best wishes.
Patchouli is also my favorite note- I have many. The best I have ever smelled is Serge Lutens Borneo 1834. Similar to Psychedelique and Reminiscence but smoother and richer.
I adore patchouli. The natural oil is so great for layering. The Jovoy is also my favourite. I got so many compliments for the Reminiscence. The discontinued H&M Patchouli Makassar is also very good. Especially the dry down. 🌱
I adore patchouli! In my collection I have Tempo, Zino, Ligno and Straight to Heaven, but one that doesn't get much attention is Patchouli by Fragonard. Its floral heart notes and ambery base make it similar to Psychedelique but it wears a bit lighter and is extremely affordable.
I have recently discovered that patchouli is one of my favorite notes. I enjoy most of the ones you mentioned and more. Bois 1920 Real Patchouli is probably my favorite patchouli dominant fragrance.
This is my favorite note, like you. I first enjoyed Nouveau Genre Yves Rocher and then it was down the rabbit hole. Unfortunately I can't find the Yves Rocher anymore but really love Tempo, Psychedelique, Coromandel, Patchouli Leaves and Profumum Roma Patchouly. Great video Sebastian.
Tempo Diptyque.... Psychedelique Jovoy...Metaphore WJ Calaj(extra potetnt and strong)....Chevalier De La Nuit Parfums Ciro....Patchouli Lorenzo Villoresi...thats the list for now..my favorites...I like patchouli to be dominant in the perfume....Purely Orient Patchouli by Ajmal...Orient take on patchouli...
Thank you. Also one of my fav notes, if not the fav. Surprised Music for a While is not in here. Patchouli makes that frag incredible. So well balanced against the pineapple.
*I recently got Ursa and man, it was WEAK! Disappeared after 30 mins and even at that it was faint. Returned mine because man. Not sure if it was the batch or I just got unlucky.*
Tom Ford White Patchouli is a fragrance I wore in 2010-2012. I loved it. But honestly it's no longer in regular rotation. It's also on it's way out/discontinued so I don't currently own a full bottle anymore sadly! Although I smelled something recently that reminded me of it. Now I can't remember what it was!! :)
You know I love this topic!!!!! Can't wait to smell your custom scent!! For me right now I am really enjoying Krigler Lovely Patchouli 55! Incredible stuff. Then Psychadelic from Jovoy. Let's see your top ten. Thanks for the review! Cheers!🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
Hey Seb, thought of you the other day. Have you seen the article saying they identified one of the fragrance materials in an ancient Roman perfume vial as being patchouli?
As always great video. And I greatly respect your opinions when it comes to fragrances,But Armani Prive Indigo Tanzanite kills AT LEAST half of the fragrances on this list in my opinion
In addition to some of your favorites (such as Psychedelique) I would certainly mention Javanese Patchouli (EdT) by Zegna, Patchouli Absolu by Tom Ford, and - for another completely different take on the note - Mistral Patchouli by Atelier Cologne. I know, none of these are easy to find nowadays...
For me, La Closerie Des Parfums Zeste Patchouli Baie Rose, ByBozo's Brutal and Escentric Molecules Molecule 1 + Patchouli are very near top of my list but for sure, my favorite niche patchouli is Psychedelique from Jovoy and my favorite designer is 2023's Boss Bottled Elixir.
I have psychedelique. I love how it smells. However, why it lasts very long, it has very poor silage. I need to bring my hand close to my nose before I can smell it. What's your experience regarding its silage?
The only one of these that I have is Ursa and tbh I found it a bit challenging. I don't think I would have considered it as close to Straight to Heaven but it could have been my skin chemistry. I'm excited to revisit it now.
I can see people are challenged with Ursa. I have heard from many which is a bummer. Because once you get past that challenging leather it's so good! :)
I do really like patchouli magnatik, but I do have love and hate relationship with it. Sometimes i don’t like the smell but I like to sniff it from time to time. It has something a little off remind me of mothball but I do like that creamy chocolate patchouli. I haven’t tried other things from your list, could you recommend me perfume that is similar to patchouli magnatik (patchouli chocolate smell with creaminess or powdery without being completely gourmand) ??
Electimus Persephone's Patchouli. Have just ordered a sample of Jovoy's. Can you recommend a smooth, clean, ethereal patchouli for summer? Also, are the patchoulis on your list unisex?
All the patchoulis here should be unisex. And do you mean light airy when you refer to ethereal patchouli? I would go with Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 + Patchouli. For an airy lighter patchouli. Or even Cannabis Santal perhaps hoping the cannabis doesn't bother you.
Reminiscence Patchouli is a reference patchouli in perfume history. There is a NEZ magazine edition all about patchouli, that interviewed with several perfumers. They are all mentioned the remincense as the iconic patcholi. But it's from 1970, not very modern that people usually like these days.
I’m not familiar with the chocolate cakey effect, but I love patchouli. My absolute favorite was Tom Ford’s Patchouli Absolu. Would this be chocolate cakey? Or something else? And can you recommend a perfume that’s similar to Patchouli Absolu?
You can try this video for Chocolate Cake patchouli: th-cam.com/video/ND8JvR7Ul10/w-d-xo.html Sadly the TF didn't give me that chocolate cake effect. It didn't have the amber and vanilla strong in the base to give that. Also you should try my patchouli collaboration fragrance with Jusbox called Fifty Four that is a chocolate milk or milk chocolate effect. th-cam.com/video/gHDe7OSb-vw/w-d-xo.html it's really super delicious.
I really do enjoy that one and I’m glad I bought a bottle like three or three or so years ago but for now it’s completely discontinued to know more in production. 🥲
I have to admit, other than in base notes, a strong patchouli is not my favorite note. That said, I was given a decant of Electimuss Persephone's Patchouli, and I had to buy a full bottle. I have read that it's a beginners patchouli, so perhaps it wouldn't make a true patch lovers list :o)

Frederic Malle Monsieur. is my favorite patchouli fragrance, and allegedly has the highest concentration of patchouli of any fragrance!
Highly questionable

Nicolai patchouli intense is a beast. Stays on forever
Patchouli leaves the best scent trail. Even the pure essential oil is a whole perfume within itself that can easily fill a room. Magical stuff.
Patchouli Leaves is a stunner, I couldn't live without a bottle.

Patchouli Reminiscence my best! Great list Seb.
Love Patchouli! I live in South Florida. Which ones would you pick for a hot Florida summer?
Ooooo a solid lineup. 😌 Bases covered I think. Patchouli Intense such a lovely daily wear fragrance. 💛
I LOOOOOOVE Patchouli. I know when Patchouli is in a fragrance I am guaranteed to like it. Thank you for the video!
Patchouli Magnetik, Velvet Haze, and Vanilla Royale Sugared Patchouli are my for life fragrances. Going to try Patchouli Nosy Be and Coromandel next.
Nice list! Patchouli Absolu is a must. 😎
Thanks for this, patchouli is my jam. Would love a vid on incense or anise scents.
