i agree! he could be the kings long lost brother! and maybe you find him in the land of darkness, trying desperately to save aqua from the darkness in her own heart.
we went to Disney World for the first time ever, I wanted to get my son some Mickey ears and get his name sewn on them, he picked Oswald ears. He just liked them better after playing Epic Mickey.
Something that made me really happy one day was while watching the Disney short “Get a horse” which plays after Frozen on the DVD, I noticed at the very end Oswald poked his head out. After seeing plays of Epic Mickey he had become one of my favorite Disney characters and I was always so sad he didn’t show up more. That one tiny moment made me happy because there was that adorable little rabbit that deserves any bit of screentime so people can remember him.
im so happy that even after all these years he still has the same design like in the 1920s! mickey changed a lot but oswald will Always remind you of disneys early days
Who's to like more? The mouse who's been the most famous and popular even today or the rabbit who came before the famous one and was the very first Disney character? :P
Well, Mickey has been in so much stuff that it's hard to compare, especially when you compare Oswald's later cartoons to Mickey's. The difference in quality is astounding and there's no comparison. That being said, Oswald never changed in terms of his Disney presence from the 20s/30s raunchy aesthetic. It's a side of Disney that doesn't get talked about today and given that "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" is being disregarded by Disney as a whole, I get the feeling that Disney is not looking to make a naughtier/classic Mickey Mouse anytime soon. So Oswald is for us geeks who wish Mickey might have stayed a jerkass and look like he did in the early 30s.
Honestly those guys are part of my top 10 favorite toon stars. You can find that list on my TH-cam channel in case you're curious where on the list is Oswald and Mickey and what other toon stars are on that list.
Hey, Jon, have you seen Walt Before Mickey? If you have, I was wondering if you could possibly break it apart in a video and tell us which scenes are historically accurate Of course, if you don't want to, that's okay. It's just a thought
I find it kinda heart warming that he told Walt Disney's daughter that his mission was to bring Oswald home, I'm sure she was happy for her dad when it happened
Disney owns Oswald once again and Disney still acts like universal still owns him by just adding cameos instead of full out putting him in the cartoons.
I feel like the reasoning is because they own part of the rights to him. If he sells, universal can get a claim to his fame. Disney wants all the money to flow into them when Universal can manage to subvert some even when the rights Disney would use doesn’t actually feed them.
Daniella Ospina same here. I’ve learned so much from this video. I hope he does more like this. I didn’t even know there was a character before Mickey Mouse.
I recently went to Disneyland Paris and bought an Oswald Keyring. My mum doesn’t seem to know who he is but I certainly knew and thanks to this I know more to tell her about. Thank you Oswald, if it wasn’t for you, Disney wouldn’t have happened.
This video couldn't have come out at a better time! I'm working on videos for the Epic Mickey series, and was looking for context on Oswald. Thanks for putting in the hard work, man! I'll give you a shout out when I post it, if you want.
I was today years old when I heard about Oswald. Deadass my whole life I thought he was Mickey but a very old version of him... I mean I'm still a young, kinda naive/oblivious 15 y/o who is still learning about the history of this world and what is going on today. 🤷🏾♂️ So learning about this is very :) nice.
Heheh. If you can't tell by my current icon I'm a little obsessed with the "bunny bro." Small correction about that Oswald DVD you mentioned: it does NOT contain all 26 cartoons as about half of them are lost and some have been found since the release of the DVD. You won't find "Poor Papa" on it, but you can find the short on the Pinocchio Diamond Edition. Disney has done a couple of things to push Oswald's character further this year. D23 last year was Oswald's 90th birthday and he got a lot of exclusive merch to boot. In Paris they finally made a costume character for the parks of his girlfriend -the cat named Ortensia. At the Disney Fandaze, which was basically an excuse to show rare Disney characters, she even got a debut musical number in the parade. Plus there was more exclusive merch of them both. - A further nerdy detail from this parade is that Disney got the rights to use a theme song that was made for Oswald after Walt and Ub left in the parade. Me and just about every Oswald fan geeked out, because we're wondering how much of the post-Disney Oswald might be brought into the limelight.
So that's why that song was featured on the Fandaze. Actually, it's not really bad, I like that song (One of the few things Universal made with Oswald that I liked). Who knows, maybe Oswald, Ortensia and their 420 kids will have a really bright future. I heard they will probably make something for him on that Disney Streaming Service.
I actually like a lot of the Universal-only cartoons with Oswald. The ones with Carl Laemmle in charge are pretty good and he still looks like his Disney self.
During my childhood I read a Woody Woodpecker story which included Walter Lantz characters such as Oswald the Rabbit and Homer Pigeon. When I read in the Encyclopedia that early Walt Disney cartoons had Oswald the Rabbit, I was surprised. (I also read more about Walt Disney in the very book you showed us,The Disney Version.)
I really enjoy your channel and have been revisting videos i never clicked on and I gotta say I wanna see a video on Disney and what happened after mickey mouse! I also found it so interesting when u went through all the different cartoons that were made. Would love to see a video on the progression of cartoons from different eras. Also more nordic and celtic folklore would be amazing!
I just realized what could also be an interesting retrospect: Max Fleischer's legacy. I heard way too many rivalry stories between Fleischer and Disney, ome of them being who really was the first studio that came up with the first sound + animation shorts, and live action + animation shorts. If it's something of your taste, would you consider doing a video on it some time in the future? :0 Off topic aside, i do love this particular retrospect on Oswald. It's kinda ironic that the Lucky Rabbit didnt get so lucky with his creator for decades on end until Bob Iger finally got him back home.
Ngl, Oswald is genuinely my favorite Disney character, period. Also because of how me and my friend played the crap out of epic Mickey 2, with me embracing the player 2.
I thought I remembered Oswald. I played a bit of Epic Mickey and saw him there. I am really happy you are going more of Disney! I hope you do one soon of the Cows. I know Disney had two characters that were cows but yeah-.
As someone interested in all things disney, I was so excited to see him in a game at all. :) I was fortunate to even pickup a plush toy of him during my last visit years ago, and I'm glad I did! Keep on with the history!
Oswald was my childhood, coming home after school and playing Epic mickey, Those were the best games ever, Shame they never got remastered. I also occasionally watched some of the old cartoons when my mom put them on when i was around 3.
Besides the short, "Get a horse." The Mickey mouse shorts have had a few Oswald Cameos in them. I.e: Some Oswald toys on a carnival game and Mickey outright throwing him in the trash.
Loved the episode. It’s really interesting hearing more about Walt Disney as his movies are such a big part of most people’s lives. I don’t know why anyone don’t, but I already follow you on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter if it helps.
@@JonSolo I'm so glad you do it. Even though I already knew about Oswald’s story i still really enjoyed the video i don’t know what it is but your voice and how you plan the videos are so well done and just sound right!
Dude this is the first time I'm commenting on your videos. This is honestly the first time I liked one of your videos. Honestly I don't like those many videos but I am because I think like people like you who are bringing Oswald more and more into the light. To be honest I like him more than Mickey I like the fact that after all the years the past, India pick Mickey games they still gave him a bilities that You Don't See in many cartoons these days with detachable body parts and unusual ways they use those parts. Oswald himself is honestly more interesting character to me then Mickey is. And to be honest I feel like he always has more potential for what can be done with him. I like to thank you for this version of his history. I listen to quite a few versions honestly. But I still find it amazing. And always the prospect of what could have been it's more tragic then what has happened to him.
I was born in 1982 and barely knew anything about Oswald when I was young. I only remembered him when the game Epic Mickey came out and learned some more about him.
Oswald when he returned to Disney:
_"I'm coming home"_
Disney: Great! We'll use you for two games and we don't wanna see you again! :D
APRIL STOUT and then when he’s there, Mickey will find him in a garbage pile and throw him away. (The Trash one of the new Mickey cartoons)
After he was accused of killing JFK...turns out Oz did it...with ⚡⚡⚡..
Oswald finds out about Micky mouse
"wow well here is my replacement 😒"
Also Oswald: I'm Back My Vacation From Universal! & And Walter Lance!
Epic Mickey is pretty underrated, shows a lot about the characters
I love that game, it's a good commentary on how fame changes people and leads one to forget about the people who got you there
I love both games, still play them over and over.
so true
I love that game
I bought the first game recently and haven’t played it yet due to not being able to play my Wii (no tv here) but I wanna play
I kinda hope that Disney makes a full length movie with Oswald
Or a TV show! ;)
Epic Mickey should be a no-brainer Ainmated Film.
I hope Oswald and Mickey get a along. then bother right
Circus Deer they can’t. it’s not their character, so universal may end up suing them
women hater universal gave Oswald back
I love Ozzy so much;;
It's sad enough that a lot of people don't even remember or know who he was.
Tryna South Park? Me too. He is so cute.
pink error very sad :( Ozzy is my fav
"Remember" everyone around back then is dead though
Oswald is the forgotten hero of Disney.
Did you like him in JFK assasination?
Oswald should make a comeback
He almost did with Epic Mickey, but sadly the game didn't sell.
He made at least 2 cameos in the modern Mickey Mouse cartoons
BattleBro115 yeah. But I mean something big like his own show or a video game that didn’t fail like Epic Mickey
OSWALD BATTLE ROYALE

Totally agree that Walt has an interesting story. Would love to see you expand on this with more of your interpretation on it!

Make oswald canon in KINGDOM HEARTS!!!
That'd be awesome.
T Anime Nomura would love to. It’s just that Disney isn’t letting him include Oswald for reasons unspecified.

There is an Oswald mascot at Disney's California Adventure Park. You can take pics with him!
