These fish are tiddlers compaired with those you can easily get in Norwegian waters. That is why we need the EU strippers out of our waters. A very healthy sports fishing industry can be built for the benefit of all---fish as well.

How I love cod fishing, but soooo long since I caught one! Every bite the same - The rod tip would give a few wobbles, then the rod would arch over. They had the annoying habit of taking the hook down. But I still put most back. Take up a lot of space in the freezer.....

I fished this stretch for years good spot salmon pool. Biggest was 12.5 followed by a 7 within minutes. I always carried a gaff never used it for years till that day. 20 lb is good because the clay in the water wears your line away and it’s notable when compared with new. Grass on shock leader knot is a massive problem here big top eye or no shock leader if pos helps also fishing dropping size of tides. 5 - 7 oz lead needed. I caught biggie on 10.5 m tide slack line bite and swam up river 😁😁😁. Living in Devon now and it’s better fishing in Bristol for cod than here 👍👍👍👍
Great to have local knowledge. 12.5 is a cracking fish! Yes the clay/silt is very abrasive on the line. All upper channel marks have it and it’s important to check and change your line more often than you would usually. All the best 👍🏼🎣

In reply to melanie kings comment..how much more isolated can you get on an isolated beach with the nearest person over 50metres apart in the fresh open air..you are more likely to catch covid from your neighbours sitting in your garden , front room or taking a stroll in your local park or field with your dog
This is an option and we know of some anglers that do it. But in our case we might do 15 casts or more per rod, per session so that’s 30 plus traces you would need to set up. We prefer to set up 4 rigs between the 2 rods and put fresh bait on as we fish. But if that way suits you then great! Thanks for watching 👍🏼
Hi Anthony, we fished this in a medium tide I think it was 11.5 meter Cardiff tide. We tend to take all our tide sizes from Cardiff. As for times we fished around 3 hours up and 1 and a half hours down. All the fish come in the hour before high.

We caught on squid and blacks and also razor and blacks. Didn’t go over the top with big baits half a squid and a single worm or a full razor and single worm seemed to do the job in the day.
The venue is actually called Severn Beach. If you pop that in to google maps it will take you to the mark. There’s a small cafe on the seafront and parking as available in the road there. Hope you find a few fish 👍

Hi Craig, yes it’s a very short walk from the car. A few hundred yards and a couple of steps to tackle. You can access from both old and new bridge but believe the old bridge is a quicker route.

Severn beach is mixed ground at the area we fished. It is mostly mud with a few stones mixed in. If you look at low water you will find patches of clean ground if that’s what you are looking for
