    Great video! Been natural for 7 years and it wasn't til last summer that I actually realized I needed to put down the flat iron. Giving it up was soooo haaarddd.

      Thank you!!! Yesss it was hard for me too. Luckily I was already considering giving it a rest so when my flat iron broke, it made the decision easy lol.

    Do you see a difference in your hair texture from when it was short to the length that it is now?

    • @EbonysCurlyTV
      @EbonysCurlyTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      Yes! The curls are a bit looser in some areas and a little kinkier in others. I have no idea why lol

    Thank You 4 Sharing Your Story! I've been contemplating the big chop or not because I didn't want to go short. I've been natural several times in my life and get bored then relax. Now having turned 40 I'm on this "Healthy" lifestyle even with my hair. I think I'm gonna let go of the past and say hello to a new year of natural beginnings!

    I notice your hair looks like it may be 3C curls, do you think your ability to retain length may be due to your texture? Is it possible for someone with kinkier hair to grow her hair that long within the same time frame?

    • @EbonysCurlyTV
      @EbonysCurlyTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      +Black Power 100% someone with a kinkier texture can grow hair that long. I'm not sure about timeframe because everyone is different but the key is making sure you listen to your hair and do what it requires of you. Moisture leads to stronger strands which leads to longer length retention. If your hair is always dry and brittle, it has no choice but to break off.

    • @LoveAffairsTube
      @LoveAffairsTube 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Black Power I agree with Ebony. There are much kinky naturals on YT 4a-4c types...with hair that long...the hair requires deep conditioning, moisturizers, and less much manipulation the longer it gets...braids, twists etc. Heat (flat ironing is recommend maybe 2 no more 4 times a year in cooler months). Not too many wash and gos. I found these great products for kinkier curls called innersence that provide slip detangling agents, and moisture balance. Its better the Shea Moisture, Carol Daughters, and Deva Curl products to me Check out www.innersensebeauty.com/

    Looks like you grew your hair so long from the flexi rod set. I’ll look for your method to the rod set. I’m a wash and go girl, finally with hang time, but I have a tighter curl pattern so it’s taking a while to see growth. Will add in hair vitamins again

    The same horror happen to me but it wasnt with perms or relaxers. I was getting my hair trained (your texture is stripped) so any time I had new growth my hair would shed drastically. I realized kt was because my natural hair was to much for the transitioning hair. So I did the Big Chop 😒 LOL

    • @EbonysCurlyTV

      I feel like box braids would be ok as long as the tension is low and the braids aren't too small. Really small braids can pull out your edges.

      +Ebony's Curly TV Love your video! A question: after your bc did you ever cut it again? Or trim? I am a little disappointed, as I usually get very good length but then go to a hairdresser to get it trimmed and they scalp me! Really, when I'm finally happy with the length, I decide for some reason that I should just give it a little trim and bang! Hair gone :(

    The reason why her hair grew so fast = genetics. Obviously, her hair was long when relaxed, even long for a big chop...there’s natural girls who’s hair is shorter than her chopped hair who’s been natural longer than she has been....it seems to constantly grow nicely regardless of what you do and some people really have it like that. Wow i wanna be this blessed but i’d have to take a million supplements and hope my hair never breaks off just for it to grow as quick as hers😭😭

    • @marquitagovan7613
      @marquitagovan7613 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's mostly genetics yes, but when she got her hair cut it was barely past her shoulders. I follow Shima (ShimaOil) who has Cuban Afro-textured hair and has been able to retain length. I also follow Two LaLa & they did a video about a lady named Ella Griffith IG SpiceBeauty 473(th-cam.com/video/K7wXtu1iuWQ/w-d-xo.html) that has retained length on relaxed hair. Curly Proverbz is another example, she had really short hair until she invested in a complex natural herbal based routine that works for her.
      I never straighten my own hair, but I take horrible care of it so it only grows so long and is always dry. I think it comes down to finding what your hair likes and retaining length. In her latest video her hair is butt length & twice as long than in this vid. But that is also 4 years of length retention at say 24 inches of growth which put her hair at an average growth rate. Here is an updated vid with before and after pics: th-cam.com/video/Um_Az3NF5Dg/w-d-xo.html
      Once I get my hair healthy and find a routine my hair likes hopefully it will have less breakage & dryness.
      Don't get discouraged hang in there!!:)))
