Been loving the videos man. One of your videos just popped up randomly and I've started following your journey. I just bought my first bike and while its a bit newer and runs It makes me want to start doing work to my back and maybe some day fix something up!
There’s a ball detent and spring that locates and engages notches in a plate and drum as you shift. It seems the detent spring was hanging up and when you dumped the crap oil/water and rinsed it , it freed it up allowing you to get the rest of the gears. Bravo!. If it’s still sticky you can pour diesel or kerosene , mixed with auto trans fluid in and slosh it around a while. Drain it and repeat as needed, then put fresh oil in and ride it a while, then drain and fresh oil again. That will also flush any rust or sludge out of the bearings.
