Ukraine Sends Thousands of Prisoners to Fight Against Russia | Firstpost America
Ukraine is expanding its military recruiting efforts to address battlefield shortages. For the first time, the country is turning to its prison population as part of its recruiting efforts. Over 3,000 prisoners have already been released on parole and assigned to military units following the approval of a controversial mobilization bill. Approximately 27,000 inmates could be eligible for the new program. The ongoing recruitment challenges have led to significant division in Ukraine. What I was talking about was during the battle of Bakmut, when Prigozhin offered pardons to prisoners in exchange for joining the Wagner group and fighting against Ukraine. He sent them in untrained, just as Ukraine is doing now. The result was 19,000 of them were slaughtered. As a result the Russian govt stripped him of pardoning power and ended the program.
