I very much agree to your list! My personal wish add ons, especially with using past concepts:
    - *Keep the active camera option!* There are very few 3d platformers I've played that can pull off movement and camera control being on the same joystick, with og trilogy Spyro being one of the best at it. Dual stick/Passive Cam should of course remain as well
    - *Better super fly / super charge controls.* Reignited's attempts to recreate them felt off to me, the differences most apparent during Tree Tops and the Flight Level challenges. Reignited's new supercharge has that odd ramp-up function, causing it to take bit longer to reach full speed
    - *Portal / hubworld structure similar to Spyro 2.* There's always the temptation to make things too "Open World", but having smaller pockets of Open Areas is preferred. imo Too closed = what Spyro 3 did with by sticking side quests into closed off sub-portal areas (perhaps due to technical limitations?). Too open = My experience with contemporaries like Yooka-Laylee, which was soured because the levels had a lot of empty spaces in between enemies/collectibles/platform areas. Need that sweet spot in between
    - *Enemies that require combining Spyro's skillset.* The majority of baddies die to the a single flame and/or charge, as well as a few niche ones who require rocks / lava / superflame. I'd like to see a few rarer enemies that are defeated with a 1-2-punch type of strategy i.e. an enemy you have to charge so it flips over and then headbash, a multi charge enemy that gets flatter every time you ram into it, a boss who has a climbable ladder back, a group of enemies who require Spyro to charge a boulder to roll and squash them, a sentry enemy where you have to knock out its eye with a swallowable rock and close the distance, a large aquatic enemy where you have to shoot a rock to knock out its teeth + dive into its mouth + flame it from inside, a russian doll enemy that has to be flamed layer by layer, etc. Of course you'd also have to have niche enemies to showcase the new Breath powers, be it electricity or bubbles or just plain CO2
    - *Make the levels feel more lived in.* I think Reignited was on the right track with their environmental decorations to make the respective worlds feel like actual homes. One way to expand on this is to have more ambient inhabitants who don't give quests but are just chilling
-*Each level gets an intro and outro cutscene* in the fashion of Spyro 2
    - *Not neglecting the importance of Collectibles* which in addition to being checklist completion items double as breadcrumbs that help guide the player naturally through a given level, physically marking where players have yet to explore.
    - *Satisfying enemy death sounds/animation.* The crabs from Lost Fleet come to mind. So crunchy!
    - *More unique Chests* like Spyro 1's propeller chest+the one that shoots the gem up and you have to jump to get it.
    - *Have other dragons play a bigger role.* They are pretty much absent from 2 and 3's plot, save for the beginning and ending cinematics (I'm assuming this next game will overwrite Enter the Dragonfly/Hero's Tale/whatever)
    - *Tongue-in-cheek humor.* Wacky inhabitants, dorky enemies (the mooning gnorcs are still iconic), and Spyro being a cheeky little guy
    - *Have a better epilogue reward.* I feel cheated out of the Bestarium / Epilogue pages of the Atlas, which were replaced with Toys For Bob's concept art gallery. Superflame was a nice reward in Spyro 2. Perhaps perma superflight+superflame+supercharge? Victory-lap new game plus with these enabled?

Here are my thoughts on a potential Spyro 4:
    1. I hope they keep spyros controls the same but add some new moves. A corkscrew dash or a launch up move perhaps, moves that could be used in both combat and platforming would be cool. (Think Zera myths Awakens or Super Mario Odyssey)
    2. Playable hunter with 3rd person Archery would be awesome. Playable Elora or Bianca would also be cool. I'd like Sgt, Byrd and moneybags to return also.
    3. I really hope they fix the hover glitch in spyro 4. (If you try to hover too soon it does not work)
    4. Being locked into different breath elements or abilities for different home worlds/sets to levels would be a fun way to vary gameplay. E.g Ice power levels where the water freezes as you walk on it or wind levels where you can breath down to launch you up mid flight.
    5. An evolving home world would be cool so it cycles through the seasons unlocking unreachable areas as you progress. Either that or a metroidvania style where you gain abilities to reach new sections.
    6. Obviously Stewart Copeland's return is a must, along with the voice cast.
    7. Keep the level design colourful, bright and quirky.
    8. More collectibles please and a more complex skill point system.
    9. Please don't keep it Xbox exclusive.
I wish TFB the best of luck in making Spyro 4.

Elemental breaths are a huge win. I think their gonna do that.
One of the main things they need to keep you forgot to mention is the quirky character designs and voices.
The worst part of the Reignited trilogy was how it robbed the hilarity and cuteness of the NPCs in Spyro 2 and 3.

Reignited was a big let down for me because the general sound design just wasn't right. The charm had been completely stripped from it. In the originals, enemies made such iconic noises and for them to just be replaced with generic "oofs". The voice acting was so campy in the originals and it was so charming. The problem was with the legend of Spyro Dawn of the dragon, it was developed with the next gen consoles at the time in mind, PS3 and Xbox 360, so it really falls flat on PS2 but at the time I still didn’t have a PS3 so it was perfect to get it on PS2. But it’s the main reason why they aged Spyro and Cynder up to take advantage of the Ned technology. Plus it was a different developer compared to Krome Studios who did a new beginning and the eternal night and if they made that 3rd legend of Spyro game it would’ve turned out to be completely different game I’m pretty sure as well. But at least the developer team from Dawn of the Dragon stayed true to what Krome Studios established to begin with.

The new game plus mode with super flame from Spyro 2 was awesome and it would be cool if they did that again! Also multiple types of breath worked well in other games. I wonder if they're going to retcon everything after yotd like with crash 4.

  • @rcjackal1861
    @rcjackal1861 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

CrystalFissure’s spitting fire (pthoo, pthoo). I think the hub worlds could be expanded; have unique NPCs who live there and portal residents bleed into the homeworld like Spyro 3. The dragons having more presence could be nice too. A Hero’s tail is a great example with dragon elders, female dragons, that one otter dude, etc.
The different breaths are an obvious choice, but they never seem to be utilised to their fullest. Either they go hard and really experiment with them or just keep them limited to a level or segment like Frozen Altars. Maybe something like water breath for a Ratchet & Clank styled puzzle section (hydrodisplacer, thermal gun). Variations of the fire breath could be cool as power ups like the stream fire and bomb shots used for some of the bosses.

I agree with pretty much everything you said lad. I personally would like a return to the basics like Spyro 1 (mini-games are fine just don't over do them). One thing they do need to capture is the feeling of mystery and wonder that the og trilogy had when exploring different levels. So, having levels be a bit bigger with more secrets and hidden areas would be ideal, since the adventure aspect was always Spyro's stronger point, instead of the collectathon/platforming (Spyro 1 as example).
I'm still quite skeptical if this is going to be Spyro 4 or an original IP but looking forward to it regardless. Hope to hear from you when news of it drops!

I always thought Spyro 3 went overboard with the minigames and playable characters. My ideal Spyro 4 would be a return to the pure platforming of Spyro 1. And if they made it so you can seamlessly glide through the portals and down to the levels without taking control away from the player, that would be amazing.

So writing this as I'm watching and what I want to see from Spyro 4.
Story: Similar to you story in Spyro takes a back seat because it never felt too important. You mentioned a corruption type story and I think that could work with maybe bringing Cynder into the series and making her a villain, probably not the main villain but a way to reintroduce a fan favourite into a different style of game. Spyro 3 does of course introduce a rocket so traveling to another world doesn't feel too dumb and maybe Spyro has to try and get home somehow.
Gameplay: I think that the formula of multiple homeworlds with 6+ levels per homeworld is an important trope of Spyro. I am someone that likes Enter the Dragonfly more than most fans but that game only having one homeworld and 8 levels and a boss was not a good thing. It felt more like say Banjo-Kazooie or Super Mario 64. Spyro is at it's best with shorter more frequent levels to keep the pace of the game up. Jak & Daxter 1 level design is still really good and linear while still feeling open world because of the clever "hidden" loading screens.
Each new game does need a sort of "gimmick" and actually the breaths that they introduce in ETD aren't a bad concept and I think maybe puzzles being solved with Lightning breath or Ice breath.
At it's heart imo Spyro gameplay shouldn't change too much because at it's heart it is a collecting game and rather than evolving combat I would rather evolve the collecting side of things. Spyro 1 had more platform (gliding) puzzles with gliding and this is something I want to see more of personally. Stone hill as a level felt so magical playing as a child because getting what seemed like out of the level and onto the top grass part always felt game breaking and created an interesting vibe, and the little beach in Stone Hill. A game that rewards exploration while still feeling linear is very hard to do but when done well is extremely rewarding.
Music: STEWART COPELAND. That is all. I think if he is offered it he would take it, and he would play the game to get a feel for the game so I would have faith in that. He can have a team working with him, of course but I would much prefer Stewart Copeland to lead it.
There are a lot of details but the most important thing is that the people making the game have to put heart into it and believe in it and then I would have confidence no matter what direction they take.

Honestly I'd like to see more focus on Spyro himself. Every game he's rushing off to solve someone else's problems without really much focus on himself. I want to see Spyro have his own character arc.
Maybe after saving the world so many times, it starts going to his head and a new enemy shows up but Spyro fails to stop them due to that ego, so he gets knocked down a peg or two. Then you follow along as Spyro has to rebuild that confidence and learn humility, as well as some new abilities that you didn't in the previous games. Such as maybe a stealth mechanic in some area, or even adding a few choices about how to play and who to work with. Something that lets you get to know Spyro himself instead of just focusing on everyone else.
Plus I'd really like to see more about Spyo wondering where his parents are, if he has siblings and why he's the only dragon his age when everyone else is already an adult. I remember someone doing a very solid theory/story idea with Cynder ending up in the Artisans homeland, so I would really like to see something that focuses more on Spyro as a character, having his own 'coming of age' arc while exploring some new concepts that other games never really dwelled on for too long, if at all P:
edit: I trust Toys for Bob to write an amazing story for Spyro 4, because they've done such an amazing and wonderful job with Crash 4, so I have full faith that they're going to handle this with creativity, care and dedication, as they are Spyro fans themselves :)

I'm hoping Gnasty Gnorc gets some sort of redemption arc.
In comparison to both Ripto and the Sorcerous, he seems a lot less malicious. Only lashing out after the Dragons called him ugly.
I feel he could very well fit into a similar role as King Dedede from the Kirby series. Being more of a rival or frenemy to Spyro, but will help out whenever a larger threat emerges.
You could continue this parallel with Spyro 4 having Gnasty Gnorc as it's "main antagonist", with his actions being a lot more ominous when compared to his first appearance. Once you defeat him, the true villain would show themselves, revealing the Gnorc was being controlled.
I also like to imagen that after this event, the true villains minions would occupy both worlds you've already been though along side any new ones. You would also net new abilities throughout the game which encourages you to go back to reach areas or break special walls you couldn't before. The new enemies would bring something new to the table when going back though the old levels.
Back to the main topic, Gnasty Gnorc would come back in the finally to help Spyro defeat the true villain. And could maybe his own stages if the game has multiple characters like in 3.

Yeah I don't care if anything from after 3 was never referenced again, I just want it to follow 3. I do have a feeling though that sooner or later Cynder is going to be put into the series simply because she's popular. Which could work, could feel wrong, depends how it's done.
100% I want a new villain, I'm sick of seeing Ripto and Gnasty even if I love them.
I REALLY don't want them to age Spyro up, It's not necessary in the slightest and I don't know why it's brought up. They never aged Crash or majority of other characters. No idea why everyone thinks Spyro needs aging it.
If anything was to go open world then yeah I would rather it be the home worlds, but again it's a delicate matter how they could handle that.
Would love Copeland back, but agreed I feel like he probably won't. I do think that people could replicate the style, look at all the Spyro fans who have. And I know Reignited's soundtrack isn't perfect but I think it was actually really good when not constantly comparing to the originals.
Also I know it's just a superficial thing... but if sometimes during some level songs you heard the classic Spyro 1 "doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doooooo" jingle in there.. I don't know exactly why but just hearing the OG Spyro jingle appear here and there in some of the tracks would just make me squirm with Spyro fangasm. 😂
Overall though yeah I've come to accepting that it's PROBABLY not going to appease all the classic fans, it isn't going to be EXACTLY what we wish we could have as life long fans. BUT I'm okay with that, as long as it holds the majority of what we loved about the originals while also having somewhat of its own charm.

Although I'm not entirely sure how you'd build that into the world organically because a speedway has you flying all over the place while the connector levels were very linear, but it's definitely an idea.
You can also definitely add mechanics. I think adding the double jump back in as an ability you get in the middle of the game is a no-brainer and they'd even have the choice of making it Spyro 2 or Spyro Hero's Tail style double jumping. Actually, speaking of Hero's Tail, I remember hearing that the elemental breaths were actually fairly well balanced in that game, so I do actually think that could work, and you wouldn't need to get rid of powerup gates either because you still have stuff like invincibility or the superflame and supercharge or that spring gate or whatever it was called in Spyro 2.
I don't have any ideas on terms of story, although all three games in the original trilogy did take place in a different world so the setting shouldn't be too hard to work out. On terms of characters though, I would absolutely love it if they could somehow reintroduce Ember and Cynder or just add any other dragon that's of any sort of significance beyond thanking you for releasing them (although maybe adding Ember would get Elora a bit jealous).

Story - Make it take place after 3 like you said. Pretty simple. Maybe have Gnasty Gnorc and Ripto team up to defeat Spyro acknowledging the epilogue from 3. Or make a new villain but keep the same premise.
Gameplay - Do what Crash 4 did and do a mix. Have it be open world like Jak 1 but also have portals. With it being a next gen game, there's a lot to go of. The gameplay should be like 1-3 but have the different breath abilities as you said, like the powerup gates and Spyro should just charge and flame like before. Bring in some new abilities that will mesh well with the core gameplay. Maybe bring in the wing shield or the pole swing. If they decide to do other playable characters use previous characters from 3 and even more Hunter and enhance their gameplay.
Music - If they can't get Stewart Copeland, try to make the music sound as Spyro like as possible. Maybe find people who have made their own using the Spyro music creator thing and collab with them.

In terms of the world design I think I'd like to see hubs that are bigger and more explorable like AHT/Jak 1's game design. But I think there should still be portals you find while exploring that lead to levels similar to the original games. They'd be more compact and unique experiences compared to the hub. Since the hubs would be bigger though there might have to be some sort of portal room somewhere in the hub that contains a second portal for each level you find, just to make it easier to return to them. To keep the levels special I think they should be like Spyro 1 levels in that there's no minigames within them. Have the minigames be part of the big hub worlds.

    1) I really like the idea of having the world structure similar to that of Jak 1, though I do have one issue. I hope they don't sacrifice the portals, since that's an iconic aspect of the Spyro series. I think a good compromise is to introduce portals in hidden areas in the worlds, and when Spyro accesses them, he gets transported to a far platform in another world inaccessible through normal means.
Super Mario Odyssey does this. You may encounter a painting of, say, the Metro Kingdom (the city world), and the painting will lead you to a rooftop of a building far away from the core area of the kingdom. You can see the kingdom, but you can't access it until you progress normally through the game on the Odyssey (the main ship). It's a visual tease of what's to come.
    2) Building on the first idea, portals could be used to bring Spyro into an alternate "dark" version of the worlds he's familiar with. Spyro could activate a device in the dark world solving a puzzle in the light world, and vice versa. I think The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, A Link Between Worlds, and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes do this light/dark world concept well.
Alternatively, tying it into the seasons idea, the portals could be time portals, allowing Spyro to traverse between seasons. He could do one task in the springtime and traverse to a 6-month portal, solving a puzzle in the autumn. This is basically the idea in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons.
    3) I like how Super Mario Odyssey and Crash 4 "Modern Mode" doesn't have a life counter that goes down every time Mario or Crash dies. Mario loses 10 coins in Odyssey and the death counter goes up in Crash 4. Assuming the gems will be fixed like in the original trilogy and not like in A Hero's Tail, I think Spyro should lose up to 20 gems in the level after each death in Spyro 4. 20 random gems will respawn in the level and Spyro will have to scour the level again to recollect those. If he collects all the gems in the level and dies, he doesn't lose any more in the level. Losing a life in the original trilogy wasn't very punishing, so I think this will add some challenge.
    4) This opinion of mine may be a bit odd, but I don't like how the Sparx's colors go from yellow -> blue -> green. It doesn't follow the colors on the spectrum. I think it should go (white) -> yellow -> green -> blue -> "purple". White is the extra hit point, and "purple" is the absence of Sparx (only purple Spyro).
    5) I also don't like how in the original trilogy you keep your progress when you exit the level via the pause menu. It kinda feels like cheating. I think it's more elegant to "properly" exit the level by using the end portal or end whirlwind, or by traversing to another world Jak 1 style.

I think story wise, it should follow up on the post credits scene of Spyro 3, where Gnasty Gnorc and Ripto get together to discuss the "Spyro problem", similar to how Crash 4 followed up on Crash 3's ending. I know it might be a controversial choice, but I personally think Spyro 4 should be a celebration of the series as a whole and bring in characters and elements from every version of Spyro. I had this idea where Gnasty and Ripto come to the conclusion that the only way to stop a dragon...is with another dragon. They combine their magic to summon Malefor from the legend of spyro series. I think Malefor is a good choice for a main antagonist due to his recognizability for older fans, as well as the fact that he really stands out compared to the original three villains. Different color scheme, different body style, different personality. Malefor immediately turns on Ripto and takes Gnasty as one of his minions, making him a boss in the game and redeeming himself for fans who were disappointed with how easy his boss fight was. Ripto on the other hand, begrudgingly goes to Spyro for help, similarly to Cortex from Crash 4. The game will of course feature multiple playable characters again, including both Ripto and Elora, who recently got a redesign and a moveset thanks to Crash Team Rumble. The dark crystals returning could make for some great gameplay moments if done right and would serve as a nice call back to A Hero's Tail, and I know a lot of fans might be upset with it, but I think Toys for Bob might be inclined to include various Skylanders as NPC cameos, as the inhabitants of the different worlds Spyro would visit. At least, this is my own personal idea that i've had rumbling around inside my head for a while now. I thought it would be cool haha

You presented a lot of great ideas!
As for how mine line up with yours:
Story - Taking place after 3 is a no brainer. If a villain is brought back, I'd been keen for it to be Ripto since he is Cortex, Nefarious, Eggman, Bowser to Spyro's Crash, Ratchet, Sonic, Mario, otherwise maybe the Sorceress since she and Spyro never had a cutscene together. Also would be nice to see some female dragons and dragonflies like Cynder and that green dragonfly.
Gameplay - I'm hoping entering and exiting levels is just like how Spyro 1 did it, and that the control scheme doesn't change. Also lives need to come back.
New Breaths & Powers - I'd love to see the gates return, especially the super freeze gate as it was only ultilized once, I also like how Spyro 2 did it where defeated enemies helped activate them instead of dropping gems so here's to hoping for that too.
Music - Love for Stewart Copeland to do it, otherwise perharps either the guy who did the reignited trilogy or the guy who did nitro-fueled.
Other than that I'd be okay with other characters being playable and having the skateboarding and speedways return too.

This talk of Spyro 4 makes me realize I seriously need to start playing Jak and Daxter soon 😅
Personally, I would like to see more creative and trickier platforming that really tests your gliding abilities. After Spyro 1, the platforming got easier imo. In which made it too easy to not die; less challenging whereas the challenge in Spyro 2 and 3 came more from the mini-games. I would like more emphasis on platforming and puzzle based platforming like we saw sometimes in Spyro 1: Haunted Towers and Treetops to name but a few.
I personally wouldn't want to see elemental breaths return, it feels they have been overdone at this point. Rather, a new idea for a power(s) would be a nice welcomed addition.
In terms of gameplay, one of the things I missed from ETD and onward was going through portals. They are a Spyro staple and I would like to see them come back 😊 They could even be used in different ways, not just as a means to enter levels.
It would be also cool to see more gem types of different values and maybe even have an arcade style point system with the gems. The higher the score, the more areas you can access. And Moneybags being there would make that a little more challenging, making the choice to pay him or not be something to think more seriously about - could mean the difference between progression faster and sooner and discovering something cool in the area you are currently in.
The idea of returning villains could be cool, but maybe just as cameos. A new villain (and maybe one that would stay like Cortex has stayed in Crash) would be refreshing to see. Maybe the new villain could resurrect the past ones and make them his/her/their minions and they would be the bosses prior to the final boss.
Anyway, great video dude. Lovely suggestions in there! ❤ I do hope that Spyro 4 pleases you. 😊

They should have been in Reignited either as the way to unlock concept art instead of skill points or to unlock the original PS1 games a la Medievil's remake. If this takes place after the original trilogy and they plan to act like Enter the Dragonfly never existed, it could open the door to revisit areas from the original trilogy, mainly the Dragon Realms and Avalar. Keep the main cast from the original trilogy, have some time pass. Not enough time to let Spyro be bipedal, but at least show some sort of growth. Introduce the villain who's going between Avalar, the Dragon Realms, and possibly the Forgotten Worlds and corrupting the lands with Dark Gems. This new enemy could originate from a different realm entirely much like how Ripto arrived in Avalar to begin with. After revisiting some old locations or even reimagined locations due to the time gap, Spyro and co. Go into this new realm and work their way through the villains claimed land.
Keep the breath powers, keep the power-up gates or replace them with powered up/enchanted orbs from Ripto's boss fight that act the same way as a gate, since the Professor was likely tinkering with them over time. Bring back the fairies if possible. As for the challenge rooms from 2 and 3, I'm personally iffy on it. I personally liked the straightforward approach of Spyro 1, but I also understand the desire for the challenge rooms. However, I never liked forced back tracking in 2 and 3 for either 1 single Orb/Egg, and/or a handful of gems. And of course, bring back Money Bags! That greedy bear we all love to hate.

I've always been excited to see another crystal fissure video 😀 So combat for me is a sticking point too, I was never able to play the reboots because the combat was too jarring - They may as well have been a different franchise entirely. A short headbut or a tailwhip would be great is only it was not a replacement for flame though it seems a bit pointless. Other breaths however, in any capacity is I think very welcome, even it is is used as a way to slightly tweak the fighting style (example melee works better with ice, and can't use meele with lightning, and flame is a balance etc.) The world's thing, you hit the nail on the head, and I really thing that formula is integral. And also, despite what certain people say, free flight should only be an end of game reward similar to fireball, and should maybe allow post game content to be accessed. Those hidden inaccessible areas have always been a pinicle to the spyro experience. Hey, spyro is a soecialndragon we know that, maybe he has difficulty flying unlike the other dragons, and standing. He's a bit slower, but becomes enabled by his next journey 😀

Year of the Dragon had some good ideas and tried to stick to the formula, I liked the different flame elements they added, just a shame it had such a low frame rate and felt unfinished / rushed. I just really hope that they keep the same formula as the first 3 games and don't change it too much, I really enjoyed collecting every single gem, egg, orb etc. I like the different levels being accessed through portals but think they need to be longer levels, playing through again as an adult they always feel so short. I heard you asking for other peoples' ideas, and unfortunately for you I love Spyro too much and have way too many ideas, and accidentally wrote a book.
First, I wanted to give my general thoughts on some of the things you brought up in the video:
-Spyro should never age drastically. Not just because it would ruin the mascot identity and general aesthetic, but working with a bigger Spyro would fundamentally change the gameplay style, which they better not do because I've been waiting for 22 years for a Spyro Sequel. Thankfully the setting itself provides a good solution - just say dragons age slow. It's simple and believable as a common trope across fiction.
-Portals should absolutely stay. I get the fundamental idea of connecting the world with paths, but the thing about that is that even though the map itself gets bigger, the world itself feels small. The portals give that thematic sense and understanding of traveling to some new, foreign land. You can look into the distance in Bamboo Terrace, and only imagine the other people and places out there, knowing that you're somewhere completely geographically isolated. It also works from a worldbuilding standpoint because the geographic isolation means any portal can lead anywhere and it completely makes sense in the context of the world. Make it paths though, and you suddenly want the player to believe that Asian-Inspired Bamboo Terrace and Canada-Inspired Icy Peaks are a hop, skip, and jump away from each other, which ruins the immersion.
-You're right about needing a lot of smaller levels. Spyro 4 needs to channel the strengths of Spyro's unique formula. This means a high volume of tight-focused levels that all have their own individual lores and worldbuilding. A lot of platformers these days go the Mario 64 route, which is a good formula, but not the same as what Spyro does, and the game would be weaker for trying to emulate that.
-I don't think that the game should shy away from taking ideas, characters, or inspiration from Spyro's future iterations so long as they don't interfere with the core gameplay experience. My hottest take about Spyro 4 is that we should absolutely use it to introduce a OT timeline Cynder into the game. Cynder has followed Spyro across 2 of 3 iterations and has become a cornerstone character in the Franchise's identity. She absolutely deserves to be reintroduced to this timeline as well.
As for how I would do a Spyro 4, I actually started drafting a design doc at one point with a fleshed out idea, here's the rundown on most of the ideas:
Story: There were actually more Dragon Families in the past before the Sorceress banished the Dragons a thousand years ago. When they were banished, they were also scattered across the world. The Dragon Realms we know of now were made from 6 families that were able to find each other and reconnect. The 6th family were the Machinists (scrapped dragons from the Spyro 1 beta), who formerly resided in the dragon junkyards before leaving on a quest to reunite the missing families. They succeeded in reuniting them, but the process took so long that they ended up making their own Dragon Realms, and decided to stay put where they were. The other families are the Grovetenders, Aquifiers (Another cut dragon family), Windwalkers, and Shadowtreaders (Which Cynder would be an adolescent of in this iteration)
The Machinists send a distress beacon to our dragon realms because an evil villain emerged from the Shadow Realm (the one from shadow legacy that also is now the thing that the Shadowtreader dragons guard over similar to the dreamwavers) is trapping dragons in crystal orbs (Kinda like orbs from Spyro 2 so NPCs can find and give them out, but you break them open and free adult dragons). Spyro, Hunter, Bianca, and a small contingent of dragons go to the new realms where the villain ambushes them and traps Magnus the Peacekeeper and Spyro himself in Crystal orbs. Cynder shows up, helps hunter and bianca stop the villain, and leads the gang to safety of the bunker belonging to the machinist who sent the message. From there, the Magic Crafters Lucas and Zantor work with Bianca to free Spyro & Magnus, as well as make a crystal counterspell to safeguard them from any future ambushes.
The game from there will focus on Spyro being downtrodden from his defeat, and slowly regaining his confidence over the adventure while maturing a little bit past the cockiness that got him crystalized. Over the later course of the story, we also learn that Cynder is working with the Wizard, a nod to her Malefor history elsewhere, but it's for more innocent reasons that feel more in line with the tone of the OG series. The other Shadowtreaders were protective of her but she always wanted to go on an adventure. When she wandered in the Shadow Realm past where she was supposed to go, she accidentally released the villain who crystalized the dragons, and now she's working with him to try and keep it a secret from the Shadow Treaders because she's scared of never being able to go on an adventure and being trapped by them again. After this gets revealed to the gang, she runs away, but Hunter goes after her and talks her into coming back to help fix things (he understands after being the one that let Ripto into Avalar). You fight the villain but he uses the Shadow Treader Dragon Orbs to release an even bigger threat from the depths of the Shadow Realm. (Part of me wants this to be a version of Malefor to come full circle on the Cynder helping Malefor in a more innocent way, but I think it's too on the nose). Spyro and Cynder both team up to take them down and free the New Realms.
    Level Design:
A combination of Spyro 1 and 2/3 level design. The hubs are based around a main Dragon Type, and while the levels play on the general theme, they branch out as much as possible and have their own unique NPC races in them aside from dragons. For example, the Grovetenders homeworld would have an Enchanted, Flowery rainbow forest, a Haunted Woods, Halloween-like grove, A castle level of pristine, manicured gardens, and a farm-based level. All of these related to plants, but all of them distinct in theme from one another.
    Gameplay Changes:
-Dragons you free get sent back to Atomos, the Machinst, who uses a machine to de-crystalize them. When you return to the homeworld, you'll find that the dragons you freed are roaming around the homeworld and can be talked to.
-Original Momentum-Based Spyro 1 Super Charge comes back and we get more Tree-Tops like levels utilizing it.
-Breath Abilities: The same elements from A Hero's Tail, but utilized in more creative ways with specific chests or level gimmicks like using water breath to make plants grow. Some enemies have aversions to certain breaths that you have to use against them, adding to the enemy varience.
    -New Chests!
Fuse Chests: You know the cannons from Kirby? It's that but with a breakable chest.
Metronome Chests: Headbash Chests with a metronome. You have to time the headbash to then the metronome lines up with the right point otherwise the chest wont break.
Shuffle Chests: Shuffles between elemental breaths. It will stop for a brief moment on one of them before shuffling again. Hitting it with the correct breath in that moment breaks the chest. Random, but stays long enough to react to.
-The Dragons Joining Spyro on his adventure (to use that budget they spent developing their designs in reignited) offer gameplay opportunities related to new collectibles:
-Nestor - Lore Tablets: A new collectible. Lore tablets can be found in levels and brought back to Nestor to be translated and added to a section of your compendium. They give extra story and lore about characters and levels.
-Zantor - Concept Cards: Another Collectible which showcases concept art
-Lucas - Time Trials & Level Replays. Allows you to enter a reset version of levels with all the gems & orbs restored both for fun and to help speedrunners practice routes. Also allows you to do a time trial of levels to try and collect all the gems and Dragon Orbs in the main area in a limited time. Completing Time Trials awards concept cards.
-Bubba - Hardmode bosses: Bubba the beastmaker thinks that he can do better and improve on the original designs of the bosses you've faced, offering Spyro the chance to go toe-to-toe with a hardmode version of the story bosses, awarding concept cards and lore tablets for them.
-Magnus has a role tied to the next part, while Azizi the dreamweaver is there, but just for helping you rewatch cutscenes in your dreams.
    Playable Characters:
-Sparx: Plays like he did in 3, maybe some new powerups in the mix. I like Cyredies' idea to have Sparx have his own spokes in levels rather than dedicated homeworld ones.
-Hunter: Plays like he did in A Hero's Tail, with cool dungeon-like segments
-Bianca: Plays a similar role to Clank challenges in Ratchet and Clank. She has a small number of spells that she has limited uses of, and must solve a puzzle designed around them to get Dragon Orbs.
-Cynder: While Hunter, Sparx, and Bianca show up in level spokes, Cynder gets her own levels in the homeworld itself where she delves into the Shadow Realm to free Shadowtreader dragons. She fights using skills called Dragon-Kata (like in Shadow Legacy), which is a simplified beat-'em-up moveset. Essentially you can to weak or strong attacks with the trigger buttons, after entering 2 attacks, you can combo either a third bumper kata move, or a charge or shadow breath (her version of flame), to do a unique finisher depending on the combination you input.
Magnus, the Peacekeeper will let you fight him as Cynder, allowing you to Practice Combos. Additionally, her unique gimmick of going into the Shadow Realm to save Shadowtreaders plays into the narrative, as her working with the villain is revealed when they get to the Shadowtreaders homeworld as the last level and there's no one there despite Cynder supposedly saving them.

Feel like I'm going to be way too critical of a potential Spyro 4 because it's so close to my heart and no matter how much effort goes into it, it won't be *quite* what I wanted, but appreciate that's entirely my problem. Really I just want more of what we had in the original trilogy i.e. home worlds with levels branching off from each one, running round and scooping up collectibles. It would be cool to see the scope of the levels expanded, maybe have some ludicrously long glides from high points across the map, or ways to extend your glide like updrafts or something to make for some interesting and challenging platforming sections that reward the player. Almost like Sonic Frontiers where there are platforming 'puzzles' dotted around the map and you have to figure out how to complete it to get the dragon/orb/egg located at the end. As a kid I always wished you could just free fly in the original games but feel like that would kind of break the platforming. Combat-wise, I'm happy for them to stick to the OG breath and charge (likely with multiple breath types), rather than the melee combat from TLOS. I could see them introducing some kind of Dark Souls dodge mechanic since so many games seem to have that these days, but I think that could work quite well to add a little more to the combat. Story-wise, I don't really mind. It's more about the gameplay for me.

Been along time since I have left a comment. It has been 2018 since Spyro had the reboot on PS4 and NOTHING has been done or said. To be honest I have gotten bored and dissapointed that nothing has been done. I can't understand how in 1998, 12 people made a game with no knowlage. Nowdays there is soo much help, knowlage and funds and they take forever. How hard is it to stick to a path. They have missed dozens of oportunities for a perfect release or even some info teaser but nothing. I'm now middle aged with no intentions of getting a PS5 or any gaming console. I persally don't have time for him any more which really upsets me. He was my favourite dragon and yes to this day I still cuddle my large Spyro plushies every night.

Remove minigames and make dialogue much better, no need for complex story for a simple game
Arcade like game, simple core idea that gets expanded to it's full potential, focusing around movement and exploring the level design like in spyro 1
a new serious villain, that isn't comic relief

I would love to see and play as Bianca. My idea is, in some levels you will play as Hunter and in some levels as Bianca. Even I can imagine one part of level will be as Bianca and in second part as Hunter ( like in Crash 4 where you can play as Dingo and as Tawna in one level. ) I more prefer standard size of the levels, not too much big and not too much small. I want very big variety of the levels, enemies, enviroments. However the big hub world would be fine. My idea is there will be 5-6 levels in every hub world but there will be another 2-3 levels which they would be locked because the area where they are is unvailable so you have to go back when in will be available. How ? I will explain later. The differents breath would be cool. I very like idea of Spyro A Enter Dragonfly / Spyro A Heros Tail where you have to use different breath. I think Spyro need brand new main villain but If Ripto would be back... I am fine with it. I believe TfB will hide a hidden places in levels very clever because they hide the crates, hidden gems extremely hard and sneaky in Crash 4. The story of corrupted areas sounds fine. The Spyro 4 need female dragons, it could be interesting to see it. 100% I want Moneybags, Thieves Profesor because they are so nostalgic and so iconic for me. Could be there collectables as female dragons ? In Spyro 1 it was so awesome to see every dragon. There could be one master dragon in one theme which has elements and the dragon can activate power ups gates in all levels wich are connected with him. So what if there are Mother Dragons or Matriarch Dragons which they are locked and when they are locked all power are lost in the world so no more Earth, Ice, Electricity, Fire even the Dragon of " Life ". The idea of Matriach Dragons or Source Dragons is from Ninjago Dragon Rising but I think this concept works awesome for Spyro too. So there are Classic female / male dragons and in every one theme world is one Matriach Dragon with specific element / source. I really hope and I really want side missions. Question is " What a reward it will be for side mission ?" The idea is, it would be shards of statue's dragon head. There will be different colors so you can get one shard for blue and in another side mission yellow shard of dragon head for you collection. When you will get all dragon heads, all dragons, all stuff you will able go into the bonus level. Stewart Copeland is legend for Spyrp music... even for Spyro Enter The Dragonfly.

I personally wouldn't really want to see Cynder at all... or any other spin-off character for that matter. I think it would show that Toys for Bob couldn't come up with new original ideas for a *new* Spyro game, and instead just used a back-catalogue of already used concepts to draw from. Start something fresh... please? But who knows, maybe they could make it work, and that would be a pleasant surprise.

Nah but talking real though. I want more populated home worlds, make it feel like theres really civilizations and culture outside of the characters that have direct relevance to the main storyline.
More dragon centric / magic power ups, maybe some spells he could collect and uae since Dragon's tend to be naturals at magic. Explain more about the dragons and their place in the world.

I really don't like the alternate character gameplay in spyro 3. Crash 4 did an amazing job with it, probably because it more or less felt like playing as crash/coco but with different movesets and speed. In spyro 3 they go against what you expect in a spyro gameplay and ALL the characters move so slow. Bentley is probably the one I don't like the most, very boring gameplay. I hope if they introduce other playable characters they take note from Crash 4.
One small thing i like them to bring back is the little cutscenes in spyro 2. just made the worls feel more lived in.
