      14:40 intrestesting concept, I've been contemplating a valid way on why the level resets or why the enemies come back, but IDK how to implement that, Dragon Time or just Reseting is a nice concept, buuuuuuut it falls short on the narrative side on WHY he would reset or go back in time or whatever could be the reason. I would want a cozy satisfying loop that is not contrived in the narrative side and only enhances the story even more.

      You can say...gulf wars are bad without providing alternative options for the invasion of iraq.....
      Being able to recognize when something sucks is perfectly fine.
      Having all the solutions is unreasonable.
      We can all say Spyro 4 sucked....how do you make it better? I don't know. That doesn't mean Spyro 4 is a good game, it needs to be called out...I have no idea how to fix it.
      But Spyro 1 2 and 3 are AMAZING...and 4 sucked....

    I mean.. instead of waiting right until the end to go back and play every Sparx level why don't you just do them homeworld by homeworld? That's what I've always done my whole life, you go to Midday Gardens and then go back to Sunrise Spring for the Sparx level, then go to Evening Lake and then go back to Midday Gardens for the Sparx level etc.
    Probably be more fun for you than waiting to do them in bulk right at the end.
    I usually don't like top down shooters either but I love Sparx's levels. Probably literally just because it's Spyro and I'd automatically love things way more if it's Spyro themed.

    It's interesting that all those ideas that you talked about were already implemented in Spyro A Hero's Tail more or less. Take every idea you had, for instance:
    The Sparx minigame was now 3D (I know, it was still a shooter, but at least it wasn't 2D anymore);
    The idea of dropping enemies and egg thieves during speedways was already a thing on Sgt. Byrd's minigame, in which you had homing missiles and bombs to take down enemies, flying enemies and targets;
    The idea of world manipulation (rebuilding bridges and de-poisoning waters) was already implemented, whenever Spyro broke a Dark Gem;
    The idea of Moneybags being less than an annoyance and more of help for unlocking Spyro's abilities, ESPECIALLY upgrading Sparx's life as you mentioned, was already implemented in that game, with Moneybags selling elemental bombs, a wider attack range for the horns of Spyro, and more health for Sparx;
    The backtracking for exploring new areas (not minor) was already implemented, because there were special doors that you could've unlocked, entering new areas in already explored worlds, if you had enough Light Gems.

      Completely agree! I thought the exact same thing while watching this video!
      Sparx's 3D minigames were great, especially with his little power ups. Same with Sgt. Byrd too. I loved the trilogy flight levels, but having enemies as well as arches to fly through was a good take on the original speedways. Also having to go through them again for another reward was a good extra challenge.
      Moneybags in A Hero's Tale was the BEST version of him. He's a sarcastic, gem-hungry bear.. But at least he helps you that time with his shop.
      After reading your comment, it really reminded me how much I loved A Hero's Tale. I hope the developers for this potential Spyro 4 take alot of notes from that game!

    I don't think combat sections in the Speedway/Flight Levels would actually be a good idea. The pacing would just kinda be ruined, as the whole point of Speedways/Flight Stages are to go through obstacles in preferred sequences/optimal routes to get the best times.
    THAT SAID, think it would be a good idea to have something like Egg Thieves peppered through the area along the flight paths that maybe hold special hour glasses that can freeze time for a short while or maybe multiply time gain for a short while, allowing players to maybe risk a detour in the idea to maybe get a more optimal time by the end. Players could then plan routes to hit up these Thieves along their flight route, which would at least create a much more free form path.

  • @SmartAlec86
    @SmartAlec86 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I have a few takes on how to implement your 5 fixes.
    The Flight Only levels could be accounted for by giving Spyro permanent flight like in Gnasty's Hord or in TLoS: Dawn of the Dragon. And just like them, there can be a limit to how high you can fly, and/or a limited amount of energy (with a gauge that can be increased thanks to Moneybags. And in case anyone tries to get curious and fly out of bounds, include a mechanic where if Spyro reaches the edge of the level, an animation will start and Spyro will just be turned around the other way. That can also be a way to substitute for invisible walls.
    For the Sparx levels, rather than get rid of the Flight Only levels, make those levels Sparx levels. They can also include the challenges that you suggested for the Spyro Flight Only levels, and for the Sparx levels. And perhaps Sparx can specifically have a rival dragonfly. So the Sparx levels could have 3 variations. The original collectathon levels like in Spyro 1, a challenge to a race by a rival dragonfly (with other dragonflies taking part as well), and then an aireal battle with your rival dragonfly.
    About how to implement larger levels, I agree that the Hub world could be large like that. But I think a way to implement larger individual levels is to have certain things unlocked, just like your suggestion for the Hub World. For example, when you progress, one of the things that happens is a bridge being built. But when this happens to open up the Hub World more, it can also apply to certain individual levels, opening up new areas with the bridge. Not all levels will have new bridges, but it can be a way to make larger levels without making it feel larger. So each level will have a main route, and then have secondary routes open up with the progression of the Hub World. And I'd suggest that all side routes be accessible from the main route. I will ad the caveot that the side routes will not be necessary to finish the game. But getting 100% would unlock post-game content like a boss fight, or even a new level entirely.
    I don't have much to add about Moneybags. However, because I suggested that the side routes aren't necessary to finish the game, Moneybags could also unlock those side routes. For example, in the Hub World, when you build a bridge, you will gain access to the offer of Moneybags building bridges in the other levels for *ahem* a small fee. So like the power-ups, they would be optional, but necessary for 100% completion. That can even make it so that you can finish the game, and anything Moneybags related can be saved for the post-game.
    Minor Backtracking can be accounted for with my point about implementing larger levels by having side routes. They won't just be for a few gems here and there. Each side route will have it's own completion criteria separate from the main route, and have it's own end location. I think this would give each level that much more replayability to by adding sections that feel like a new levels. Perhaps you can have a side route that takes advantage of permaflight with a bridge taking him to a section with floating islands. Or in a grassy level, have a side route that goes into a cave. It can add variety to levels without violating certain level themes.
    And as for your concept for Dragon Time (which could be reminiscent of TLoS: The Eternal Night), perhaps that could be a post-game option. Perhaps after you've acquired all of the other power-ups, after you've beaten the boss, he will offer you the Dragon Time ability. Spyro can say something like "I'm getting tired of paying your '*ahem* small fees'." and then Moneybags could say something like "Nonsense! I won't take no for an answer. After all, I'm offering to teach you this free of charge." and of course, Spyro would be like "Who are you, and what have you done with Moneybags?". I like this because it would show character progression for Moneybags.
    I also have an idea for New Game Plus content. But that can wait for my thoughts on your Spyro 4 ideas. Unless you want to hear them now that is.

      @CraftyMaelyss 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      What if there were hidden mini bosses in the flights that you could only access once you beat the main flight stage under a certain amount of time? You could then add a timer for how long you have to defeat that boss until they escape or destroy something, so you have another objective on top of fighting them P:

  • @1ace1000
    @1ace1000 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    For the first one (Sparx levels), honestly... His gamemodes literally can be an unlockable sidegame when you think about it, kinda like a prize pretty much to add in additional content to play. It was done in Season of Flame for an arcade game prize for 100 percenting the game, but if for Spyro 4 to be something more worth it, how about unlockable levels of a Sparx game with in-game rewards from getting certain achievements, even if only aesthetic and such? Heck, you could even make those said levels collectibles like like the Classic Kingdom minigames in KH3, or even ones you have to play once you collect them in order to add them to the list like in the Pac Man World games.
    And as for that last suggestion you got, that's actually a great idea to have the level re-accessible after completing it, but what could even be better is including new challenge modes for that said mode as an additional option for replaying them, like having a time attack to finish the level by collecting certain things or defeating certain enemies that appear. In fact, depending on the level and it's design, as well as how big it is post completing it on the first visit, there's a lot that could be done with it.

  • @Reditect
    @Reditect 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    That last one I've been wanting to add to my game for a while now. The main collectible, Golden Toast, is shown to players when they replay levels, but they can't collect it again. I've been meaning to change that for a while now. There's already a data system, so I think it'd be as easy as checking the data for that specific collectible, and if they already collected it, just don't count it again. But, since I didn't have that in mind in the first place, I might need to rewrite some code for the data system.
    On the topic of hub worlds, I actually think Spyro mostly does an awesome job. There's stuff to do and things to collect like any other level. Making them bigger can create issue where players don't know where a level is. Most players aren't likely to look things up. I've seen many people leave games after thinking the first, or a few levels, was all the game had to offer. That or dying from something early on. Well, I guess that's in the free-to-play scene though. Spyro 4 would have the advantage over my game because it'd be paid. People who pay for games are far more likely to actually play it I think because, well, they paid for it. Anywho...
    I think there can be greater use of gliding and vertical level design. Cosmetics would be cool, one for each world might be too much, but that'd definitely add to things. Multiplayer wouldn't fit I think, but that would give more a reason for cosmetics.
    For the Sparks levels, and the other characters, I really think they should stick to Spyro himself. Throw in time trails, platforming challenges like Kao the Kangaroo, and a more accessible/easy flying missions.

    Great video as always! For the Moneybags point, I have an idea: maybe he could function similar to Spyro 2 and 3, but instead of Gems, you have to pay him something you can find in the respective level, and then he gives you a simple reward (like a dragon egg), opens up a new part of the level or gives you an ability (in a homeworld). Like the Badlands quest where you have to collect the bones you can find in the level.

    I would have to say that the minor backtracking I faced in Spyro 2 wasn't as annoying to me as the one in 3. I always found it super inconvenient when Hunter is kidnapped in 3 and my completionist brain has to wait for him to be rescued before I can get a world complete. What I would love is some sort of after level completion bonuses to worlds so you have an excuse to return. Whether the world has changed entirely due to resolving the issues there or a bonus challenge has been unlocked, I think a little bit of backtracking actually helps players to experience the world a bit more. I haven't expanded on the thought much more than this, so if anyone has any ideas to add to that I'm open to additions and ideas.

    I’m going write in this this comment what I think a safe but good Spyro 4 could be. (Safe meaning not too experimental and creating too many new ideas)
    So Spyro 4 would go like this, it’s been 8th mouth since Spyro 3 and similar to another 4th a dragonfly festival is being setup, but Spyro not the only dragon his age there as other young dragons who were off forming groups and training are here as the young but mature dragons are passing there dragonfly friends down to these new infant dragons. Spyro is not in the any of the groups as from hatching he always stood out and was kept close to the dragon elders who Spyro felt he connected better too. The dragon groups are set into 6 categories, the Hotheads, the Gossips, the Competitive, the Silent type, the Layback, and the Overthinkers. Elsewhere a Robed figure use magic crystals to revive a fallen foe, Ripto and his 2 henchmen Crush and Glup. Ripto anger not at all these event ask what going on and this robed figure tells Ripto he was brought back by him to ruin the dragon’s upcoming celebration and get revenge on the dragon known as Spyro, he will be given some help with a few of General Gnasty men and their powerful dark crystals that must not reach the hands of the dragons. (As fans we know who this is, but this is setting up a better version of him, Red the dragon didn’t really feel too impactful) Ripto who can smell through the robes his real identity decided to work with him as the enemy of his enemy is an ally worth having for know. So similar to Spyro old Spyro 4 but with improvements to the story and more world building added to it Ripto steals all 150 dragonfly beside Sparks as he hid under Spyro, trapped in magic bottles in the lower dragon lands Spyro worth with the other young Dragons and a few close friends to retrieve all the kidnap dragonflies and stop Ripto, but halfway through story Ripto is given another gift to help stop Spyro, a creature who for years been altered into a dark beast with the dark crystals for Ripto encounter with Spyro taking a page from a different Spyro game. Other important things is Spyro will gain 5 new powers/abilities, he will learn Healing Aura which is a new way to recover hits back, Gust Dash letting him dash into flying we’ll gain upwards momentum, Ice breath which let him freeze his foes or objects, Electric breath that let him zap foes and objects, and Water blast an attack Spyro can do under water, all learned from the other dragon groups as well as more ways Spyro can use his Fire breath are learned as well. Other important things revealed is that Spyro litter had 152 dragons eggs, Spyro will now no longer need Sparks to help track his power and resilience after this game, and an important character from Spyro series not in the OG timeline will be in this game. Also Hunter and Sergeant Byrd are playable. Also like I said this game will be portal hopping around the lower dragon realm and have 14 levels with different themes and new NPCs to interact and learn about the area.

    Very small detail, I'm probably the only one who cares about it, but I really hope they keep that tradition of the first enemies running or hiding from you when you start the game. Artisans did it, Glimmer did it, and Sunny Villa did it. I also kinda hope they don't do an open-world setup. I don't care much as long as the game is fun. But I really want something that very much resembles the original Spyro games. Plus, I want to see just how creative Toys for Bob can be with portal themes. Great video as always, guy!

    I’ve got a few points about the video
    -I 100% agree with the levels not needing to be super open. I feel Spyro’s level design was always one of its biggest strengths.
    -I disagree with wanted to change the speedways. They’re there to shake up the gameplay so you’re not doing the same thing the whole time, so making it more like the other levels would kind of defeat the purpose
    - And with the backtracking, they could do what Mario Odyssey did with the moon rocks. You could get a special key of some sort that unlocks more level instead of changing the level itself.
    I still like hearing your takes on the game though. Keep up the good work.

    I agree about the massive open levels. But i would like it of we could see these levels in the background. E.g. say if they were to include the Artisans in the next game and actually allowed you to enter the castle this time, maybe fron a certain height you could see Stone Hill off in the distance. Or where you would meet the Balloonist maybe you can see Town Square off in the distance. Or maybe if you look up you'd be able to faintly make out the Dream Weaver Islands.
    We'd still need portals to reach them, but i think being able to see them would add to the connectivity of the lands...obviously i'm using Spyro 1 worlds just as an example as much as i'd love to revisit those worlds i don't think it'll happen.
    I love your idea of bigger Homeworlds though, that sounds like a really fun idea.

    • @yuvi3000
      @yuvi3000 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree with bigger homeworlds but, yeah, definitely not the levels. I think the level lengths in the original Spyro games was perfect. None of them felt too short and the ones that were difficult or frustrating for first-timers were just enough to be frustrating upon first play and then you understood them better next time.
      If we make the levels bigger in area or longer in duration, we're going to have the same issue that Crash 4 had where it took average players like me half an hour or longer to finish some of the more difficult levels sometimes instead of 5-10 minutes per level like the original games seemed to stick to.

    Well, I agree with backtracking and about moneybags. But for flight only levels, some parts I have to agree with. But except that instead of thieves, we get to have pots with an hourglass on. So if you smash a pot, the clock or an hourglass will come out so the player will collect it get some extra time or freeze time just to complete the challenge. With thieves, it would be frustrating because of how they move around when chasing after them. It might lead the player to either fall off the platform or fail the challenge level.

    One of the things I don’t want to come back in Spyro 4 is guest characters because, as you said, Insomniac had reached the limits of what Spyro could do, so they made up for that with guest characters. Instead, I want Spyro to be given the ability, even temporarily for specific levels, to do other things. Things like hovering to drop a missile, jumping really high, different fire abilities, or adding special effects to other things he can do like dodging, running, and flying fast.
    Toys for Bob is a talented group of developers, but I don’t want them to face the same dilemma Insomniac had and shelve Spyro again. As a Spyro fan, I don’t want his potential growth as a video game character to be hindered by nostalgia or holding him back from innovative ideas to please what he used to do. If Spyro 4 shows him doing something different, like shooting a gun or an arrow, digging underground, swallowing enemies whole, etc. I would be okay with that. If we want Spyro to thrive as a video game franchise, we must let developers be creative with him and not pass on his evolution to a guest character.

    Yeah, pretty much everything you said here, CGE, would be my preferences for Spyro 4. But I still my original idea of Spyro unlocking more of his past and origins as a Purple Dragon. It’d be so cool if Spyro could learn elemental attacks like he did in TLOS and meet different characters from his other reboots, like Ignitus or some Skylanders characters. I guess that’s taking inspiration from Crash 4, but holy smokes if it wouldn’t be awesome!

    to add onto your idea of replaying levels, what if there was also a randomizer mode that puts gems and enemies in random spots, maybe even has a chance to put in enemies from other levels, just to really spice things up?
    also, idk how other people feel about the minigames and challenges, but I'd personally like to see less focus on them and more focus on level design, exploration and platforming, more like it was in Spyro 1, with some harder to reach or find areas, glides around corners, stuff like that. I've noticed that the level design became much more linear due to minigames replacing the need for exploration to find collectibles. of course, I don't mean to have no more minigames at all, just fewer of them.

    I have an idea: maybe a Spyro & Crash Bandicoot game, where you can play as both or play in multiplayer. This game is called Spyro, Crash, and The Curse of the Past. Its main antagonist is this being from the early days of games. Where the animation is all polygons and pixels. You know, The Oldest Spyro & Crash Bandicoot games, the ORIGINAL games. This individual, who is known by many names, including The Strange One, The Glitch Doctor, and The Menacing Man, realizes that he, and to extension the world he is in is "Not Perfect," because we all know, those mid to late 1990's video game animations are quite crude. And so, this individual decides to enter into the current age, and he desires the same perfection that our heroes have, and so he peruses perfection, and by perusing this perfection, he causes the world around him, and our characters to an extent, to glitch out and phase between the current style and the mid to late 1990's style.
    There are certain sections of the world that are completely 1990's animation, and there are other sections that are completely modern animation, and then there are areas with a mix of the two. And Lastly, The Final Boss is more Extreme than any other bosses of any of the previous Spyro and Crash Bandicoot games. With randomized attacks and the ability to noclip in and out of the arena, he has almost complete control of the battlefield, and there are definitely going to be sections of the final boss fight where our heroes need to run from the antagonist for the Strange One is super powerful and unlike all past bosses, is completely concentrated on killing the heroes at all cost to make sure they don't stop his pursuit for total perfection.

    14:24 that’s why I been telling to a lot of people. In order to avoid that it would’ve been better that if a player just complete 100%, wanted to take a break from the story adventure or play with a friend locally, the player can go to a place like some kind of arcade like where you can play a minigame o side games you already been played through out the story. For example in spyro 3 there is the boxing match of Bentley where you can play for a little while or play in multiplayer, or how about Hunter was running away from a sheep in a space ship that would be a good idea for Hunter to have a racing mini game just like “hydro thunder”

  • @emporcs5546

    I honestly agree with a lot of the criticisms, critiques, and comments CG made about Spyro here. Also, I like the ideas to remedy the issues you had with them. I don’t necessarily agree with everything, but I agree with a lot! But such is how things work. Everybody’s got opinions, right? So anyways, Glad you also offered ways to make a potential new Spyro better. The backtracking thing, Moneybags, and flight levels only thing, I can agree to for sure. I think those should be altered. And yeah, I do think also that a new Spyro does need to retain the feel of Spyro by having varied homeworlds and environments to explore like the OG games and they don’t necessarily have to be gigantic. I think that for the backtracking thing, what should happen is that there should be areas of the LEVELS & HOMEWORLDS blocked off until you reach a later point in the game and unlock 🔓 those areas (That would be one of the only main ways to access those areas, though there could be other ways as well like completing certain challenges or finding secrets, etc. - ideas are endless here). This way the original levels would be preserved for casual players but for completionists and the like, the original areas would be preserved WHILE ALSO expanding upon them. Also, if the idea was to be implemented where different versions of the same homeworld or level were to exist (with different collectibles and the like) as you reached later points in the game, I would say there should almost definitely be a way to access the levels and homeworlds in their original forms and/or their later forms (maybe through the guidebook? Or by completing the game 100% or finding certain secrets within the game that unlock 🔓 the original versions of the areas permanently to explore again and again at your own discretion? (Think about how you unlocked the Flashback tapes from Crash 4 or the Colored Gems in Crash 1-3 as examples of ways to unlock the extra parts of areas or different forms of them or even other secrets in the game) Or even the Dragon Time idea you mentioned, though, personally, I do think there should be a way to unlock ALL variants of the levels and homeworlds PERMANENTLY so that completionists are happy. Trust me. I think it would work well in the long term. Also, you would be able to visit all versions of said levels and homeworlds through the guidebook once unlocked 🔓 permanently (I.E. “Glimmer (Version 1)” Or “Glimmer (Version 2)” as examples of how it COULD appear in the guidebook. (Though, I think that “Version 1” and “Version 2”, for example, would be placeholder names till I came up with a better idea for how to name the different versions of the areas. 😂 Idk, that’s just my thoughts). In terms of the Sparx levels, uhh, I don’t actually mind them that much in the original games, though I can understand making an upgrade to them for future Spyro titles, if they return. Thumbs 👍😊

    Honestly, I’d like to see a game that revives Season of Ice and Fire. There’s a lot of levels in those games the devs can take as inspiration.
    They incorporate different breaths into the gameplay. there are some really cool level ideas in that game I’d love to see in 3D, where you go into Moneybag’s treasure vault and have to dodge security.
    Regarding moneybags, I think the solution is simply incorporating alternate forms of difficulty for the game. There exists difficulty modes in reignited that can’t be accessed normally. But in the highest diffoculty mode, we can up the gem prices to exorbitant (not 100% completion) levels.

    Great video! As a big proponent of giant levels, I can totally get behind the idea of only having bigger homeworlds instead. In a way, it actually makes sense considering that most of the eerie yet soothing tranquility of Spyro is something that's typically associated with the homeworlds as opposed to the lively and action-packed levels. The homeworlds in Year of the Dragon in particular felt especially lonely thanks to the soundtrack and making them bigger would really evoke that adventurous sense of uncovering the secrets of large, mysterious worlds.

    On the last point I have two proposals-
    New game plus- simply start the game with all upgrades and areas unlocked in a completed save file. Tried and tested formula, guaranteed for a grand time.
    Also, time trials for every level. A general completion time for reaching the Canon end point, and a 100% completion time. Time trials are unlocked by 100%ing and level in a save file, on an individual level basis.
    As for other ideas, a hard mode where you die in one hit.
    Free-flight mode where you can lock trophies for a save file to be able to fly around in all levels as if they were speedway/flight levels, as well as a 2x speed mode. Maybe a full power-up mode where you also have supercharge and superflame by default, mainly as a way to explore levels to their fullest potential and test out if various feats are possible under certain conditions(ex how fast could you speed run a playthrough if you had permanent supercharge, how many superflames to destroy something in the world, etc). Basically like playing halo with the bandana, sputnik and acrophobia skulls.
    A multi-player mode where people engage in dragon-on-dragon combat, defeating enemy players in 4v4 deathmatch and using in-level power-ups to their advantage, as well as race modes that challenge player's platforming abilities.

Basically, something like this system allows some flexibility like a self-imposed hard mode where you can beat the game without buying any upgrades. And of course, I'm sure Moneybags may be hesitant, but being able to refund all your abilities is probably a good idea in case you change your mind over which abilities you buy - considering there's only a finite number of gems in the game.

    But I wouldn't want it to be like Yooka Laylee where it's best to pay to expand before you go into the level if you have the currency, and the levels are WAY, WAY too big.
    Instead, I would like to see it... oddly enough in the Yooka Laylee sequel where there are 2 different forms of the same level.
    Maybe 1 level is a grassy, sunny area and it's variant is completely submerged in water.
    Another level is a winter frozen level with big ice walls blocking certain sections, and its variant is in summer when all the ice is melted, giving you access. Or heck, a volcano erupts to melt the ice and turn it into a lava level, but part of it still has some snow.
    Both versions would be 2 separate levels in terms of collectibles and challenges.

    Contrary to what a lot of people seem to hope for, I want to make a case against Spyro 4 essentially being an "Enter the Dragonfly" or "A Hero's Tail" remake, i.e. more of the same after 1-3. What they did with EtD/AHT was try to just copy and continue the hugely successful format of the original games, but not introducing anything novel just gets stale eventually. (There's a reason Insomniac dropped the series, after all.) The world-building and story of the original games was never their strong suit, and to interpret their success as an endorsement of goofy excuse plots is confusing correlation and causation. It's safer to say Spyro became popular for being a colorful, fantastical game where you control a cool, spunky little dragon - not because it had weird bipedal adult dragons, humans and human references, and an un-serious story overall. Those were just overlooked because that other stuff was so good.
    Now that TfB no longer has their hands tied in faithfully remaking something pre-existing, they have the unique opportunity to tell an immersive story while still preserving most (if not all) of what made the original games special and successful. To fix the shortcomings of the original games, if you will. Because those games weren't perfect, either. The Legend series set out to do just that, but perhaps it changed things too much? TfB could make another attempt at this that learns from the failures and successes of both series. Some concrete examples would be aging Spyro up, and introducing more mature story themes and more epic music as a result (while still preserving the original series' humor).

    I have been anticipating Spyro 4 like everyone else. For me what I don't want in Spyro 4, is flight levels. I get why they are in the all 3 of the games, but to me, they are useless. And also bring back the way gems would fly out of the chest from the 1st game, that was a really cool feature back then.

      BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA He's A Dragon! Get creative, just because he does not have hands doesn't mean he can't shoot stuff from his mouth rapidly nor can't use those claws to good use.

    I have now finished watching this. I pretty well agree and like your thoughts and ideas and solutions to these, CanadianGuyEh -- I really do love going back an rep[laying levels, and I do wish the items and such would come back, or for fun there can be a randomizer where you select that feature and then play the level and you get to hunt for new gems more hidden, but for that Sparks locater of gems is locked so you cant use it (assuming it's still within the next game that is lol) I recall always loving finding hidden gems or dragons or eggs, and being super proud I fount them on my own(ah the times before the net could spoil you too much with everything). There are so many good and fun and new ideas that could be within the 4th game and I hope that a few of those you listed off make it in!! I also talked about the flight Levels within another comment but I'll post it down below this one too!!
    While I don't love the Flight only Levels.. I did find it fun because Spyro is a Dragon, it was fun to fly around as him, not glide or hover glide. I think if they do keep them, there should be a reward for 100% that level with all the little things, beating record times/ect.. By the end of the game if all the Flight levels are beaten to their full 100% I feel like it would be cool then if Spyro within the hub worlds and other levels could then be able to fly around freely! I think that would be really cool and rewarding for a player. In the Legends game I enjoyed the after game in game 3 just free flying about. Something about that was so calming and fun to just go and do. And who knows maybe there could be hidden little gems/prizes found with this new flight mode you'd get only after beating all of the flight only levels. Only if they kept the Flight Levels in though. I feel like that should be a learning thing for the purple dragon to learn how to properly flight. ------
    Idk if that's just me, but I always thought when I first played the games when they were new and I was a kid, that was actually the point of them levels. I thought you'd get to eventually learn how to just fly around. Even if it was for a short amount of time, kind of like an extended glide but you had better control of going up or down just a little bit.

    I think the safest and most enjoyable way to handle Spyro 4, if we ever get it, is to do what the first Spyro game did. Focus on SPYRO and immersion in beautiful worlds. No over saturation of characters and mini games. I wouldn't mind a mere nod towards characters like Sheila or whatever, to acknowledge their existence, but they should not have a part in the gameplay.
    NO more forced backtracking pls lol.
    Flight levels are okay if done right and I wouldn't mind them, in the way the first game did them.
    Being able to focus on world building and new, interesting dragons to save means we can finally get female dragons!
    Lastly, I love cynder but she shouldn't have a part in the game other than being a secret unlockable skin. And I would really love to have her as a special cosmetic.
    The first Spyro game in reignited is my favorite by far. It's so pretty and every world you go to, you want to explore and see more.
    The reignited trilogy was undoutably rushed. Not only was extra content cut but the quality declined from the 2nd game into the 3rd (very noticeable in the 3rd). I wouldn't mind waiting a few more years to get a polished Spyro game.

    With that flight entry, I was hoping you were suggesting more of an AHT style approach; just having normal levels double as the locations you race in for the flight level races.

    Unfortunately we're never gonna get a Spyro 4 because Activision, Xbox and Microsoft are failing very badly to the point of becoming another Dreamcast. There was this game called Crash 5 that was gonna include Spyro but was canceled due to bad business decisions. Microsoft should have never obtained Spyro and Crash because as we're seeing right now these two IP will end up in the same situation like Banjo Kazooi and Conqer being shelved indefinitely from the company's incompetent.

    I think the series should just go back to its roots, back to the Spyro 1 structure. Focus on replayability and a fun flow state; no tacky minigames or other playable characters that change the pace of the gameplay. Give us fantastical worlds with tricky platforming challenges that you can learn to master so that your next playthrough goes more smoothly.

    The last idea was the best having it replay able if you 100% in area , i didn't mind new player characters, new idea in evey area one shows up asking him for help in there own home world, they give a new ability at start of stage and idea switching characters inorder pass next part in there home area, it could work by pressing r2 or L2 to switch them, at the end maybe a prize, new ability to keep, or something need for a side quest. Still we haven't seen what Elora could be capable of and Bianca might create a neat stage since she just became friends with him at the end year of the dragon even a Hunter stage his home area , it was fun playing him as side in every flight zone but else like attack styles, my idea on these 3 because their from the trilogy, just my take on it, maybe sparks can have a rival dragonfly that shows up as the boss, the fight between the to gets harder in every level in stead of different end bosses , this could boost up spark's gameplay maybe his rival can show a little about his origins before adventuring with spyro

    Spyro 4 has many ideas that we can suggest and like, but I agree some can't be the best.
    -Sparx levels feel a bit flat considering the many other gameplays Spyro 3 had, if it was a rail shooter like Ace Combat or StarFox it would be much better (at least for me).
    -Flight levels were the secondary gameplay to bring diversity, taking them out would be good if neccesary.
    -Giant levels are always a double-sided sword, either are beautiful or empty. As long as the levels are big with stuff to do and have fun, I'm ok, and more if they find a funny way to expand the levels to farther distances.
    -Moneybags. Yeah we all hate Moneybags, and his usefulness to unlock levels or anything besides unlocking levels can be given to something else.
    -Minor backtracking is kinda valid. I like how in Spyro 1 the levels could be completed in one visit if you explored enough, and in Reignited returning was optional if you wanted some of the skill points. Still, it's a tiny problem I think can be overlooked.
    Nice video!

    It's funny, as a little kid I dreaded the Sparx levels but as I grew older I ended up loving them. But those speedways I used to avoid like the plague. Personally, I think the length of the levels should be around the length of the one's in Enter the Dragonfly. Larger than the original trilogy but not too expansive. I agree that it should be the homeworlds themselves that should be extended. One thing I don't want is the simplistic "optional" bosses like in the first game. I much prefer how they were handled in the 2nd and 3rd games.

    I specifically like your backtrack segment. I loved the idea in the original trilogy, but it wasn’t implemented well. The level would always be back to exactly how it was before you visited the 1st time, including all the characters, collectibles etc. It would be nice if the characters and world had evolved - more foliage, more areas, new structures etc. You covered this before during my your interview with Paul Yan.

    I'm probably just weird. When I was younger and played the trilogy I LOVED 2 & 3. I liked all the little objectives and mini game type events that happened. They challenged me and were really imaginative and creative. However, Spyro 1 has always been my favorite. And I think this is because it DOESN'T have all of those events. Because nowadays... they just stress me out. lol I know that sounds dumb given how trivial they are but there's just a lot of multitasking and speed oriented goals. I'm old now, or oldER, and I play games mainly for
    1. Immersion
    & 2. Relaxation
    I can play Spyro 1 all day. Super chill, no timed sections (other than flight only) and I can just move and enjoy at my own pace. I wish they'd make TWO new Spyros. One with the goals like 2 and 3 and one that's just exploration and platforming/gliding trials only. I don't think there's any disputing that Spyro 1 feels like a completely different experience than 2 and 3. And while I like those games (and do still play them from time to time) I really just want that originality from the first one. No ninja land or robot world. I want the castles and the spires and the overall vibe of the original BRILLIANCE that Spyro 1 had. If they make another Spyro game then I want to see another Spyro the Dragon.

    People dont realize how hard it is to design good gigantic levels.
    Theres a reason majority of "open world" games are bland and unfun. Its way too much empty space between interesting spots.
    Heck look at Breath of the Wild. Initially i loved that game but fairly quickly (like, dozen or so hours) i began to notice that a LOT of what was there was just copypasted everywhere so once i had completed the Zora area i felt like i was slogging through the rest of the game because it all felt so, so similar.
    Tears of the Kingdom basically took the same development time on the same map and overcharged it, so that game doesnt feel that way. I mean, it does, but a fraction of the original issue.
    Very few games that are open world pull it off. And usually the ones that do are hyper realistic games like RedDead Redemption2 so theres no theming clash problem.
    Heck, Mario Odyssey was thought to be open world. Its not, its freaking huge levels but its not open world. It keeps that level-based mechanic just enough to have those radical theme shifts. I wouldnt mind if Spyro went that route where theres only ~13 or so levels each with their own theme but those levels are huge. I say almost because thats what Yooka Laylee tried and ...man those levels got boring....
