This one definitely went under the radar for me, thanks for giving it a spotlight!! I have only read 5 King books yet and I will probably get to some of the bigger ones first, but Bag of Bones is going onto the list now as well. I love the sound of that creepy haunting atmosphere combined with the themes of grief!

This sounds pretty sick - as a Stephen King newb you definitely didn’t steer me wrong with 11/22/63 so I’ll def keep this one in mind. This is def one of the less mentioned King books cuz I’ve never seen anything about it

I'm always fascinated by King. Most of the books I've read by him do exactly what you say well: showing the darkness within. No other author explores the human in such a (kind of) sensationalist way. Great review and definitely a book that is now on my radar. I love reading King's "underrated" books.

Nice! Yeah he shines in that way - this book is a good example of that. Thanks, Fine!

That's the beauty of art. Everyone brings something different even to something that seemingly has a solidified, consistent consensus.
I don't use GR anymore, I tried but I bounced off it and I couldn't care less about what piece won what award(s) 😂

I loved this book but I love most all of SK's books. One scene that is indelible is where the young woman is playing softball and she lands on base and does a little dance to the (if I'm remembering correctly) Don Henley song All She Wants to do is Dance that is playing on a boom box. I never hear that song without picturing that scene, that is how good a writer SK is.

I'm sure I was judged by the hard core fans on my ranking Stephen King video . 😂😂I haven't read Bag of Bones yet. He has so many books I need to get to. Which is crazy because I've already read at least 20.🤣

Awesome review brother. I'm been planning to jump further into the King catalogue this year. Swan Song by McCammon is the best book I've read all year so now I think I need to read The Stand as a comparison. This one is now on my King TBR. Thanks man.

I totally agree about not taking Goodreads reviews at face value! Glad you were able to find a gem! 😁
My usual tactic when I'm trying to sus out whether a book is going to be a hit with me is to filter GR reviews by rating, I'll purposefully look at some 2-3 star reviews and skim to see what their main issues with the book were and then i'll filter to just 5 stars and see why other people loved it. If the poor reviews are all mentioning the same things and those things are like plot and logic issues or something else I usually am more picky about while the 5 star reviews are talking about how great the descriptions and prose are (things I usually don't care too much about) then I immediately know that's not going to be a book for me! 😂 Basically I just look for trends in the reviews with similar ratings and try to pay attention to see if reviews of the same ratings are mentioning the same things to try and get a better picture of whether I'll enjoy the book ahead of time! It takes a bit more effort but I think it has been fairly effective for me so far. If I can't seem to find trends that way then I usually go ahead and leave something on my want to read.
I also know I have 2 or 3 Goodreads friends with very very similar tastes to me so if I see one of them has rated something lowly it's an immediate no. 😂 On an unrelated note, I should really look at this with a lot of books on my want to read and weed out some potential duds, lol.

I'm someone who spooks very very easily, so I haven't really gotten into horror/Stephen King. I've read one of his books and found it far too masturbatory and really didn't like the ending...but all of that said you have me very intrigued about Bag of Bones!! I actually have a horror comic on my TBR so depending on how spooked I get reading those volumes, I may feel brave enough to venture into more horror. Great review and video!

TWO Theo videos!? Incredible! This book was a pleasant surprise for me and our likes and dislikes are actually very similiar. I thought the book was the best showcase of King as an author - some of his best tendencies and some of his worst. Also wasn't a huge fan of the ending.
