I don't know how to put into words how aesthetically pleasing your studio set up is. As a bartender, I have all my stuff in certain places and that's where it lives. Mise en Place
Finally finally finally !!! A proper Van Neistat video is out … this is the kind of videos for which I follow Van … it’s been quite sometime since such a video has been made … but better late than never right ! I thoroughly enjoyed this video Van ! Thank you for this ! ☺️
The commitment to maintaining that space is forever an inspiration. The desire for function over everything else just cuts through so much bullshit and checks my need for stuff. Really appreciate your content, Van. Thank you.
Three years ago, Van said in 'Running' he runs "four miles per day, five days a week, first half uphill in the dark". Now it's running Tuesdays and Fridays in bright sunshine and doing weights on other days. We need an exercise update video now, Van.
Casey had a pretty long video on his running and marathon prep, between the two of them they both put down some serious miles, I bet they both run a 6min mile. Van vs Casey race lol
I love this video for the rare perspective that we saw as a look into your work space, And I got to say just seeing how you use the little creations you build to solve very unique problems, make me want to go out and create. Thank you Van
This video fed my soul. I feel like I have traditionally put too much priority on a clean aesthetic and it has always come at the expense of function. This video inspires me to have a more functional setup
I liked this episode more than other ones!! It’s so cool to see a video mastermind’s work space. No Sony. A lot of DIY wood work. He’s a very interesting guy. I love his way of life.
A gopro hack for overheating. Remove the battery and the battery door and run it off of a external battery supply. This is what we do at my job for our podcast that we shoot in a car as we drive around our little city. 3 gopros ran off of an external battery bank and have never had any issues. Typical run time is slightly over an hour.
Wow, There is so much to learn and build from this small studio. Building functional custom solutions for the problem rather than buying over the self mass produced solutions. You really inspired me to start making things by hand.
“ This is our recording studio…” Just re-watched some Wes Anderson’s this week. Really just gave me an amazing context for your scene. Usually when I’m watching TH-cam in my garage with my headphones on I can laugh out loud in peace. This time my wife caught me forcing me to explain why I’m a nutter. Sending love for the journey from Northern Colorado.
What an awesome video. We, the viewers, do ourselves a favour by every once in a while seeing the world through Van Neistat's eyes for 10 minutes. David Lynch was right. And I love taking care of good quality things; whether you can make film with them, or prepare food, or play games on them; things that are durable and high quality are part of what makes life great. If that makes me a shallow materialist... Then so be it. Greetings to Van Neistat and his subscribers all over the world from a 25yo student in a midsized city in NL .
I do the same with cleaning and with pencils and post-its… and nearly all of the things you mention sans the running- i enjoy biking! The busy work helps a busy mind!
Is just mind-blowing the organization of every little detail. Can't even decide what's my favorite part. What actually caught my eye, wass the ceiling cover to darken the studio. It's pretty neat!
I have the same Aeron Chair and it's worth every single penny. Light years better than every other office chair I've tried. Can never go back. However, I'm envious of how nicely you have setup the rest of your space. I need to invest more time into organization :)
@Van .. I have a new outdoor shed office coming this week. It is about 100 sqft. Your video was perfectly timed as I needed a little inspiration as I consider up my setup. Thanks!
That’s how I operate my shop! I don’t start on another car until all my tools are put up and my bay is cleaned. Clean bay is important if you’re trying to diagnose an oil leak. I don’t have to ask myself if that spot on the floor is from this car or the last car. 😂
The set-up is everything. I learned this working on full scale aircraft test models. I always do a set-up when having work done for me, and the contractors are impressed by them, but I just want the job done without the work being done on the ground.
That was an amazing one. I truly wish I had the confidence and discipline to edit my stuff with the breath and thoughtfulness of your videos. I get caught up worrying or being preoccupied with attention spans and such.
I would love a video about that lifetime table. I worked at the retail store for years, accumulating tons of random tables, and have tried figuring out the best way to add a wood top. Anyway love the video!
Woodworker here...the sweeping, dusting and vacuuming of all the surfaces and floors is so satisfying, with a finished piece sitting on the bench. Have a set-up. Tidy it up.
Won’t be long before Van is on 1 million subs , such a talent you have Van, always remember Candice saying VAN when Casey asked who was the most talented 😂
It's instructive that, in this video on the relation of objects to creativity, the sole device that doesn't appear (apart from a brief shot at the end) is a computer.
I’m not sure which is actually better. Dealing with some chaos on a daily basis or the effort and time required to keep everything obsessively organized to avoid the chaos. It sure looks aspirational to be wildly organized until you consider the time and energy it takes to both get there and maintain it. There seems be an opportunity cost at both ends of the spectrum. No need to do the thing today, I have to organize my writing tools and build a custom storage solution for old trinkets. It plays well on TH-cam and that’s why I’m here. 🤣❤️
@vanneistat maybe you can make a “Day in the life” of Van Neistat video. It might be almost the same as this video, but maybe it can give an in-depth timeline of how you spend your working day. Each writer has a method to their madness, I’m sure we all would be interested in yours. I’ve seen other videographers make videos imitating famous writer’s day in the life, but instead maybe you can show your own. Just an idea.
Van you are an inspiration. I wish I had the mental makeup to be as organized as you are. but my mind is way too scattered and I feel like I have to work with the kit I was born with. Or maybe in the latter part of my life (I'm about to turn 65) I will discover another path.
If they made a movie about you Van it will became a new mentor"ish" standard on the industry. However you decide to bless us with every video and knowledge. Blessings from Barcelona
Great video Van! I have a space that, ATM, I'm trying to turn into a usable studio. It has been just a storage space till now. I'm making progress but it's slow.
Van! I want to build a workbench in my place and I'm curious where you and your brother find those big black pipes used as legs? Looks like black 3" plumbing piping with flanges to connect to the base?
I'd like to do some of this for storage but we have weather here. lots of weather. winter can get cold, spring can be unforgiving. we can't store anything outside

I'm in the market for a shop trash can! Who makes the fire preventing one at 8:26?

Amen; Mise en place

Ouch 🥴

The drawing of the Land Cruiser should be put on a t-shirt.
I would totally buy one.. 😊
Better cloth this time! Mine are worn out!
@@bigskybobmine are too! We’re partnering with a new merch vendor soon so should have way better options
as someone who is also in a very small space, this video speaks to me very profoundly. our shop/studio is a manifestation of our philosophy on making

I caught that too
I think he mentioned on a live stream or previous video that his doctor recommended he start running less.
get a life
Now Van.
I recognize the tremendous effort you put into this and every one of your videos on behalf of all viewers we thank you
Easiest 10 minutes I have ever spent watching a TH-cam video. Loved it!
The nod to David Lynch was the perfect grace note for the end.
David is da OG Spirited Man
I love a good reset after finishing a project and before starting another.
I love this video for the rare perspective that we saw as a look into your work space, And I got to say just seeing how you use the little creations you build to solve very unique problems, make me want to go out and create. Thank you Van

The Fuck It message written on the front of your typewriter is priceless! Thanks so much for the inspiring peek inside your creative space!!
My dad was an illustrator for the Government and he made me a light box when I was a kid. I loved that thing!

one of my fav videos you've made so far. so good.

so good, Van. witnessing your ingenuity expands my own
“ This is our recording studio…”

This is so encouraging to me, being in a similarly small space. Beautiful balance of practicality and shop craft.
Loved this video!

Ceiling mounting things is my favorite. Truck rooftop tent, surf rods, awning, best loss of space is everything above your head.
I do the same with cleaning and with pencils and post-its… and nearly all of the things you mention sans the running- i enjoy biking! The busy work helps a busy mind!

4:14 Love the super obscure Bob Dylan reference
Agree. Quote within a quote. Very satisfying
I came here to say that.
Love seeing the setup, amazing!
In the same way your space creates a mood/you create a mood in your space. Your videos do the same. It's kind of magical.
Another fine and satisfying video Van. Thank you.
That last shot of your studio from outside at night! Im making a print of it. looks great! Thank you for sharing your Setup! Good day.
What a great video. Very calming and loved all those great quotes you shared.
Everything in this Video is so well composed, awesome job and inspiring as always.
I enjoyed this, shot well and relaxing yet interesting. Thanks:)
Totally inspiring, thank you.
The Life Aquatic gets a quiet nod. Love it.
It's in every one of his videos. Van and his studio could absolutely be in a Wes Anderson film.
I've been thinking about various permutations of how to setup my gear/studio. This is helpful, inspiring, and motivational. Thanks!
I needed this. I have a bad case of HSS lately. Horizontal surface syndrome. If its flat and clean i'm sure to fill it up with crap in no time.
I love all the ingenious storing methods!
@Van .. I have a new outdoor shed office coming this week. It is about 100 sqft. Your video was perfectly timed as I needed a little inspiration as I consider up my setup. Thanks!
Amazing studio. Amazing solutions. Beeing spirited, as always.
Timing could not have been better. I'm just planning to reorganize my workspace and this is a great help! Thanks!!
Fantastic video as always

good video. I finally have my own office space. And slowly building it into my own.
I would love a video about that lifetime table. I worked at the retail store for years, accumulating tons of random tables, and have tried figuring out the best way to add a wood top.
Anyway love the video!
My favourite Van!

Something therapeutic about these things van. Hoping to meet you soon.
somehow I have the sense that having a studio away from the house is so much more productive than inside the house.
i love Van's brain. such a spirited man.
Won’t be long before Van is on 1 million subs , such a talent you have Van, always remember Candice saying VAN when Casey asked who was the most talented 😂
Keep on keepin' on!

I Love your videos man thank you for uploading

another classic!!
yesterday you completed 4 years of the spirited man series, congratulations pal.
Great movie, Thank You Van Very Much ! :)

You are a planner , thank you for sharing your story 😊
Really cool and inspiring.
Very nice, well-crafted story. Beautiful camera work.
Clickup Ad was cool. I do like the product
This reminds me of both the “Swiss Family Robinson” and a Wes Anderson film.
wow!! just wow!!
Excellent video
Love this video. Van is a master.
I loved this one
wonderful studio!

i am in awe.
The wood cutout for the binder clip is hilarious.
its funny that the last video i watched before this was the latest essential craftsman which also mentions oily rag shop fires.
Captivating.
Great video Van! I have a space that, ATM, I'm trying to turn into a usable studio. It has been just a storage space till now. I'm making progress but it's slow.
Beautiful.
" a new video begins with a reset studio"
That's my exhausting part!
Just incredible of ingenuity
Van is an impeccable warrior 🤌
That Dylan reference killed me 😂 “I said that”. Well done.
Van! I want to build a workbench in my place and I'm curious where you and your brother find those big black pipes used as legs? Looks like black 3" plumbing piping with flanges to connect to the base?
3:54, I heard the akira ping and an image of ronnie mcnutt materialized in my mind
“So I can shoot myself at my desk”
such a good tutorial on how to make a video 🔥
don't think the Bob Dylan lyrical reference went unnoticed... we appreciate the little things
The Bolex sticker on the gopro! 👀
I like the change.
Love to know more about the Monday Thursday workout routine
Who else could watch a live stream of Van just working in his studio .. no talking just him working 😅
My pencil, without me, is useless. Without my pencil, I am useless.
There is no other like it.....
Sweet “Talkin’ World War III Blues” reference!
Van since when do you have a leica? Video please I love your camera videos
Especially the homemade rigs
I'd like to do some of this for storage but we have weather here. lots of weather. winter can get cold, spring can be unforgiving. we can't store anything outside
Great video, thank you. The 9 ft table looks about 24 inches wide i think
Can you make a video on how you attached the plywood to the folding table? Please.
