    People have no right to talk about the man's weight or his sexuality for that matter. Luther Vandross was a beautiful human being, kind, caring, sensitive, and kind. They should all just focus on the man's talent and his gorgeous voice. Right, I just stepped off my soap box.

      Well said. He was a beautiful, talented man, and shouldn't be defined by his weight or his sexual orientation.

      I agree. Who cares what his weight was, or who he chose to love. No business of anyone’s but his! Luther was the prime example of grace and talent. A true icon

      Yes baby, you so right. Gimble was a passive aggressive, but here rather kind. Vandross’s voice cuts thru to every moment in my life. My youth, my wedding, the birth of my daughter. Basic love components. Thank you Luther.

      You are so right. He was an amazing human being. I had this song played at my husband’s and my little chapel wedding. We had known each other in high school, went our separate ways and married other people. Life went on for almost 30 years and we found our way back. This song was so appropriate for us because we had finally made it back to each other.

      Wow, that's sad about Luther's family members. Sounds like my mom's family (mom's father, mother, & children). My mom died several years ago, my mom's youngest brother died last year, my mom's other 4 brothers & sisters died even before my mom, my mom's dad (my grandfather) died many many years ago, and my mom's mom (my grandmother) outlived 5 of her 6 kids, and she lived to 102 years old, and she passed 3 years ago, a year before her youngest son (my uncle) died. I'm bringing this up because I was just talking about this with my brother during Christmas because we miss our family, especially during the holidays. My brother and I were very close to my mom's side of the family, and now, my grandparents ENTIRE nuclear family...mom/dad & 6 kids are all gone. Sounds like Luther's family. I didn't realize Luther's mom had passed. I remember seeing her on Oprah years ago. Anyway, sorry for rambling on, I just related to what you said about Luther's entire immediate family being gone.

    • @joshuamcdowell9745
      @joshuamcdowell9745 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@bd3825 I read his biography by Craig Seymour. Luther was an emotional eater. He struggled with loneliness. He wanted to be in love. He wanted a relationship. That's why he was able to make beautiful love songs that women took to. His fanbase was mostly women. He kept his sexuality a secret because he didn't want to disappoint his female fans. Luther also wanted more mainstream recognition like his peers Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin. When his career first started, he was more successful on the R&B charts. It was "Here And Now" that gave him the first taste of mainstream success and helped him to win his first Grammy.

    • @joycewilliams7393

      Luther was surrounded by a lot of death. His dsd., all of his siblings, a passenger in a car he was driving in 1986, and his drummer, Yogi Horton, committed suicide after a show with Luther. Yogi was only 33 years old All of that would wear down anyone's emotions along with Luther's own personal issues. Despite all of his talents, fame and fortune he had a sad life. Joyce

    A) The following year, he was gigantic again at MJ's 30th anniversary, B) a year and a half after that, he had the stroke, C) 2 years more, he was dead.

      It's scary to think how fast things can change in life. Life lesson I guess. Try to live a healthy life, and enjoy life while you can because tomorrow isn't promised.

      @@RestlessRick Well he did it to himself. He was at an ideal weight and for him to balloon up to well over 300 pounds after this took lots of effort. Laziness and eating everything bad and unhealthy and fried, etc... He got to a weight most people would strive for(including me as I have been dieting and exercising for 35 days now) and I hate to say it but - BLEW IT BIG TIME!! It's a damn shame too because we lost 1 of music's greats way too early.

      you have no idea what could have been going on in his personal life he obviously had a addiction to food so comfort ate he must have been battling with some demons and food was his outlet Iam guessing but unfortunately must have increased his health issues

    From this 2000 interview, I find that it's good to see Luther Vandross be slim and keep his weight down, and he looks good. And not only does Luther look good with his weight down from this interview, but he also looks to be in better health, and skinny and slimmed-down Luther Vandross is what I like instead of him big and overweight. This was also when Luther was doing good with his health and no longer having anymore health issues. Like he said, he was no longer a diabetic or had anymore high blood pressure due to the weight loss, and I do say that that was a good choice for him. And I think had Luther stayed skinny like this and not gained back the weight, he probably would not have had a stroke that he suffered and still be alive today, being that he's now deceased and no longer with us, and I do say that being big and overweight is very unhealthy and that's what caused Luther's stroke and death. Skinny Luther Vandross and from this 2000 interview is what I like and want to remember. Luther Vandross maybe gone and no longer with us, but his music legacy still lives on and he will forever be remembered as one of the greatest singers that ever lived, and from this interview I would like to always remember him as that. And not only was Luther a great singer, but he was also one of the nicest people everybody knew and loved, and he was such a calm and generous man and deserved good treatment from people. And this interview also shows that about him. So even from this 2000 interview, I would also like to remember Luther as a nice, calm, and generous person.

      No, I shouldn't keep nothing to myself, because it really is inhealthy to be big and overweight, and Luther really looked to be in better health from this 2000 interview.

    Question: Here, he said he no longer had diabetes. A few years later when he had a stroke, didn’t uncontrolled diabetes lead to that or no? Just curious.
