    I like your new pocket hole jig Ken. That's nice that it can help you make the chicken run door. I like how you always check for square. I like your door with the crossbucks. The chicks sound happy in the background. I like the chicken wire on it but the hardcloth will be better. Wow, 12 inches of snow! Thanks for this video Ken!

    Ken you have a very observant chick behind you! You cannot beat any of the Kreg products. I built a bookshelf twenty years ago and used the basic kit. The system makes an incredible strong joint. I made a test connection to see if it would do what i wanted. I would show everyone the test piece and ask if they could break the connection. Those two pieces of joined 1 x 2 still survive today!

      @@kenskarpentry Ken, just thinking forward a little bit now but maybe you should consider a semi-retirement business fitting stairs and mezzanine storage to customers EXISTING garages, as you are very proficient at those and it would still give you an additional income. (You still have the truck and most of your tools, so there would be no new setting up costs and you could keep a tight control on your work load…) - just thinking out loud buddy…

    That's a cool tool. Suggestion... mount it to a piece of plywood so when you need to use it just clamp the wood to something. (sawhorse, bench, etc) For a quickie job you can place it on the floor and step on the edge of the wood.

    Ken, don't worry about wear on the drill guides, I have the original Kreg Jig and have used around 10K screws and the guides don't show any noticeable wear. Yes I too love the pocket hole jig. Most notable build was a wall hung corner 5 shelf unit (36 high x 12 wide on both walls) with only pocket screws.

    Concedning the Kreg jig. Used itnfor years with great success. I would sugvest going to the blue (ourdoor) screws for the PT materials. I think the current chemicals make.make your zinc plated screws dissappeear after a few seasons... Praying for Timmy and Dan's family.

  • @Mark_Nadams
    @Mark_Nadams 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Looking good Ken. In the winter after it snows you will want to shake the metal chicken mesh on top of your run to let the snow fall through and take the weight off the mesh. If you don't and let snow build up on top, it can get too heavy and damage to mesh and/or the wooden frame. Don't ask how I know, I'm embarrassed to say I had to replace my center wood brace on our run last year.
    We live a little south of you. We were on the rain/snow line which kept switching back and forth from snow to rain and sleet complete with lightening. We ended up with 2" of solid ice topped with 2" of ice pellets. It was the first time I would have described it as "pouring snow" during the storm. My snow blower was no match for it. It was even too much for a standard wide snow shovel. I had to shovel what I could before it froze that night with a small 9" square shovel so each scoop wasn't so heavy.
    I've been using my low end Kreg pocket hole driller for about four years now. It still works well and the guides are showing little to no signs of wear. If you need to use a fixture like that often check out the high end tool that Al Lumnah got for the task. It's a whole table top tool like a table saw but it is a drill that you just get the wood in place and pull the arm down to drill. He even has had Gina using it a few times.
    FYI - Your WD-40 will help things like your pipe clamp for a while. However it doesn't last as a lubricant for long. It was made to be a "water displacement" product so It evaporates away completely and will need to be reapplied as needed. It you use something like PB Blaster that has other lubricants added the pipe clamps will move smoother for a longer period.
