It wasnt top expensive, the germans just didnt need another billion Dollar contract for the Bundeswehr, when the great enemey, the ussr collapsed. So there was no need and the money could be spend in a better way, like reuniting the east with the west
There have been many reasons why it wasn't adopted. The cost of the system wasn't the only reason, just more like the nail in the coffin for the project. For example, the G11 meant a whole new amunition system, since the NATO chose the Belgian 5,56 x45 mm developed in the late 1970s as standard ammunition. The other issue was the complex mechanic inside the G11, compared to your standard assault rifle of the time. The inner mechanics can be seen in detail here: th-cam.com/video/QGKcvM2Hh4g/w-d-xo.html Not exactly something you dissasamble in the field in the middle of a fire fight really. The video by ForgottenWeapons in the link also talks about the issues that come with caseless ammunition. There was also the issue of carrying the ammunition, since the stripper clips are rather large. The gun it self has the option to carry two aditional clips on the top of the weapon but I could still see potential issues here. No nation, has ever chosen to go down that route with their fire arms, outside of a few very rare prototypes and there are very good reasons for that.

Icon Of Sin it went in production, but was later stopped because after Germany reunited this weapon was banned in Germany were as you might know Heckler und Koch comes from
@@swangdangeryeet3389 It wasn't banned, it's just that the Cold War was over and the Warsaw Pact as a threat stopped existing, and West Germany (now just Germany), not only got a gigantic surplus of AK74s from the dissolution of East Germany, they also were looking at spending lots of money on fixing East Germany up after being a Communist hellhole for a decades. The expensive G11 was seen as just really not that necessary, and it was instead decided that the Bundeswehr could settle on a more conventional modern infantry rifle, which would be the H&K G36, an AR18 derivative with a plastic body. It's not an excellent rifle by any means, but also not horrible, and it was rather cheap, which is what Germany was looking for. For what it's worth, I think that if the G11 had actually gone into widespread service, a lot of its deficiencies would come to light, and that would be a headache and a half, so given the circumstances, the G36 was an ok choice for a new rifle.
@A M A Z O Field stripping was easy, you could just take off the front and the back. The issue would be detail stripping (which honestly I think trying to take the action itself apart should count as). I don't really think the soldier was supposed to take it apart very much in the field, however, but that is very much a point against it in my opinion, because an infantry rifle needs to be some degree of idiot proof, like an M16 or AKM.
The G11 did have a bayonet. The cutouts near the bottom front of the handguard have recessed bayonet lugs, and at least one model was photographed with a bayonet attached.
a couple comments: "it has huge recoil" fire 200+ grain bullets, you wont say the g11 has huge recoil once you fire a shot of a 200+ grain bullet (i fire 350-360 grain bullets out of my 54 caliber muzzleloader, and the g11 seems like nothing for recoil compared to a short and light 54 caliber gun)
I think he meant that the recoil wouldn't feel heavy anymore once you fired something 200+ ? Not that I know I've never shot anything in my life. I can't tell if the combined recoil of 3 bullets would actually be the recoil of a 3x as heavy load.
The recoil is something you would apparently kind of get used to. Mind that the G11 was also a very lightweight rifle, weighing not even 5lbs fully loaded, if I remember right. A lighter gun means more recoil for the same cartridge. You do have the three round burst, which at 2100rpm, all bullets leaving the barrel before the recoil impulse hits your shoulder, this having like 150grs of mass coming back, with all their speed combined to 9000fps, ergo over 3000 foot pounds of energy. The entire action of the gun recoils into the stock, to absorb recoil, and you REALLY need this function when firing the 3 round bursts.

German engineering ayy :D
dad That's not why the recoil is dampened.
@@skepticmoderate5790 In one recoil move of the barrel 3 bullets leave the gun... Thats how the burst is so recoil low.
@@attackhelicopter7403 The recoil is not low. It just happens after the bullets leave the gun. The recoil is in fact higher than in single-fire mode. Newton's third law.
only 1,000 copies have ever been produced of this rifle. please help Hickok45 find this one so he can review it soon! 🙏

that's a very rare video clip of HK G11 firing real life round.
Looks like a similar gun used by Ian's in Kraut space magic video, same October '89 manufacturing date (10/89).
Probably the same rifle from HK's grey Room cause maybe they're the only one that have ammo for that rifle.
this was way ahead of its time
Why this video so beautiful, especially the music
If you make a video about this gun you must put it on burst at least once, the whole rifle was made to shoot an extremely fast 3 round burst and delay the recoil so you could fire the burst accurate
I don't care about guns but these videos are perfect
This is the sort of gun that you would like to see in a Battlefield game one day
The Shawoosh it's a Vietnam weapon, but I would like to see a battlefield Vietnam game with this
Vietnam weapon? The development of the G11 was completed in 1990
LivingInTheLimeligh7 COMPLETED. Development started in 1968 and continued until 1990. Many early g11s were used in Vietnam, and later versions are still being used.
Squee Squee wut
Squee Squee Wait, this thing is still in use somewhere?!
“You never shot a damn 2x4 before?? I got you”
One of the only videos featuring the g11. However, it doesn't show the 3 round burst, this makes me sad.
For 3 round burst see th-cam.com/video/E_didDgUjn0/w-d-xo.html
I love that music 🎶
I'm a little disappointed they didn't fire it in burst mode that's more of it's design's intended purpose.
it did, the faster mode was the burst mode.
The burst is so fast it sounds like one shot, quite the genius design
@@CosmicValkyrie no, that's sadly just the full auto... You can see how far the action cycles
3 round burst mode: th-cam.com/video/E_didDgUjn0/w-d-xo.html
The music makes it more elegant....
0:50 almost as satisfying as an M1 clip ejection
Greatest assault rifle ever built, the future we needed
This is the result when you are horribly over-qualified for a job... and I mean both, the gun designers and the director of this clip. WOW!
The gun isn't that bad overall
@@crangejo it was better than all NATO rifles in trials
One day the music of this will emerge
That's incredible. From 1:20 to 1:22 it sounds like it's only shooting 5 bullets at a slower full auto, but each one of those that you hear is 3 bullets being shot in extremely quick succession, meaning 15 rounds in 2 seconds. If you pull the trigger just once, it will fire 3 shots before the recoil is even felt by the shooter. Absolutely incredible.
Sadly not... You can see how deep the action cycles... It's single shot
What kind of music plays the background?
About the only thing better than this is a phased plasma rifle in the 40MilliWatt range :)
I love this music
what show is this?
"We have our new rifle, Herr General." "Superb! What is the unit cost?"
"About 250, 000 marks per gun."
"Get out of my office."
Nope. It was infact cheaper as the G3. So sorry Dumbo :D

This needs way more likes
Idk how this isn’t used it’s such a innovative gun
Everything was satisfying to look, even reloading the rounds 0:48
0:52 i have repeated this part like 30x, so satisfied to watch it
really wanna see a demonstration of the 2000 rpm hyper burst!
look into the video. You can see the magazine moving with the rifle, that is the 3-round-autoburst... you can hear it br br br br - that is the 450/600 automatic, the brrrbrrrbrrrr is the 2000round-3-round-system

That distinct sound it makes in the 3-shot burst makes me give it the appropriate nickname “The RoboCop Rifle.”

I'm here for COD Black Ops 1, one of my favorite weapons in the world.
When the JSSDF finds out you want to make a third impact

"Where does he get those wonderful toys?"
this sounds like an anime intro
Wasn't expecting Japanese, that sounds of the 3 round burst is just awesome, bet they praising it.
LoL i know this is goofy but -45 close to the fire selector..... What could that mean 45 rounds shot at once? xD
I wondered that, but makes perfect sense. I believe depending on the version the prototypes had 42 to 48 round mags, so it seems plausible.
Think of the selector numbers as how many rounds per single trigger pull.
The G11's magazine holds 50 rounds.
@@vegacomplex8290 it actually was planned to be used with 45 round magazines
Cod community: we want the g11 in cold war!
Also cod: how's about a carv2?

I wonder, was this weapon a source of inspiration for the design of the MMP-80 from Gundam?
What anime is this

Amazing they were able to get ammo to show it off with. This program has been defunct for years
They love it because it looks like anime gun
One of the most beautiful guns in the world.
