I followed the same instructions, went really well, can't complain.
My table didn't have wood around the pockets so I couldn't staple there. So if that's the case for you, I would recommend to forget the felt doubling in the pockets and instead start gluing the felt in the pocket radius and then under table for the rest.

I do pool table installs and re cloths. The speed cloth used on the USA tables can be very challenging to install especially at the pockets. There is almost no stretch and it's very non for giving.
I've seen experienced installers struggle with the speed cloth.

As I've said before, I know nothing about pool tables, but I have upholstered many a wooden chair and stool. I would have left the spare fabric of in the pockets until it was all stapled to give me lots of leverage to stretch with.

I have never seen a pool table dismantled and reassembled. Therefore, I have no tips or advice to give.
I do know ONE thing ... for the life of me, I never could figure out how a pool ball can sit halfway in and halfway out of the pocket.
My dad used to blow on it, and it would fall in. Then he would proudly exclaim: *Now THAT ... is DIRTY POOL!!!* LOL!

I find doing narrower relief cuts 6 to 7 instead of 3 helps to finish the pocket smoothly and leave enough to wrap it under and staple in the area that you will be attaching the pocket and with anything the more you do the easier it comes to ya.
And for a 1st timer try really great effort ! Be sure and let us know how it plays

I had thought about that but all my research didn't suggest the idea so I refrained. Stretching the fabric is like anything else, it takes practice and technique. Felt is easier to stretch than the worst cloth. Thanks for the idea!
How do You get old glue off the side or isn't it nessary I scraped most of it. There is no wood under slate. It's a 8ft kassan
Anywhere you have ball play or ball contact you want “perfectly” smooth. With your table they may have used glue to stretch and hold the cloth or felt wrapping it around the bottom perhaps. I carefully studied how they put mine together before disassembled the table. Hope this helps.
Just bought some speed cloth for a pool table. It has a smooth side where you can see the stitching, the reverse side is slightly fuzzy, like a felt. Which way is up? I'm confused?

To hide the staples in the pockets ... couldn't you cut another strip and super 77 glue it over the staples?
A new player would not know this.
Why don?t you try to moisten it a tiny bit the tissue will let go and give you some stretch part..for the pockets...
I thought about hot water in a spray bottle on a mist setting but didn't come across that technique anywhere in my research. It just takes practice and developing the skill to perfect it.
hi got a question I have brand new rail with rubber that has bounced off great but wheyi put cloth on it don't bounce do you no why driving me crazy
I kniw you know what your doing...but when you stretch a cloth or else on a flat thing and you want it really well stretched ..you start in the middle of each side..than you work on each side of that middle staple on each side ..one on right all around ...next one on the left side of the middle one on each side..all around...etc etc til you get finish on all four sides that is the way you do painting canvas to have it really well stretched...
Right Angie. Securing the center on one end, stretching evenly to each pocket on the same end and securing, go to the opposite end, start at the center and secure the same way then work the sides starting at the side pockets.

When I wAtched some do this. They had started in the middle pocket and went to opposite corner. Using a sheet metal visegrip to pull fabric to the pockets. And attached the felt under the table. I was hoping to see that again. As that was 20 years ago

Hi my cloth was laid about two weeks ago it’s simonis and now their are puckers on the long rail or ripples . The guy who laid it said it’s because of humility. How come it’s not all over then . I think he didn’t pull it tight enough ? Your opinion please ... ASAP

It's not humidity. Your installer did not stretch it properly. With good technique, Simonis or any other worsted cloth are no more difficult to install than a woolen cloth. Your installer over stretched the cloth from front to back, and didn't use a lateral stretch along the length of the rail. They also stapled too close to their stretch point. While you're working the length of the rail, if you stretch about an inch ahead of where you're stapling, the cloth is still tight, but doesn't leave the puckers or stretch shadows.
Is there anything you don't do superbly?????
