John Taylor is such a bad ass! He has been overlooked his entire life. He is a superb bass player. I simply love Duran Duran and have since I was 14 years old.
While I completely appreciate your feelings about John, I don't think you can call him underrated. He has placed 1st in some best of all time bassist polls, and top 10 in most others. Anyway, we share a love of Duran Duran, so don't consider this a debate or disagreement. 😊
Imagine for a minute if you will just how different Duran Duran would've sounded without John Taylor on bass. Taylor's bass lines were the special sauce that made Duran Duran special.
Dude, this was really good! At first, I was thinking "wow, this is kind of an out if the blue song, right?" But seeing it in motion made me completely understand why this song was chosen. That whole bass line just had a *flow* to it.
I overlooked this song for years but drilling down on bass technique discovered the intricacy’s involved , perfect for ferreting out my weaknesses. A great total workout!
@@CoverSolutions while I'm completely ignorant about actual audio production, I was looking for something towards the sounds of a J Bass, but with a little more versatility.. From my, again, ignorance and the many videos of yours I've consumed in the years, it seems like a good fit for me, especially given its honest price nowadays. .. I would just be using it for fun and as a small upgrade to my entry level Ibanez (which I love but still.. )
0:29 - Have you noticed that the studio track is the only time JT plays these D notes on beats 2 and 4 (on the snare)? In every live performance I’ve heard, starting in early ‘82, he plays them on beats 1 and 3. Any guesses why? Is it more natural? 1:39 - Also have never heard him play these high-to-low E octaves except in the studio version. Guessing it’s for simplicity’s sake. 1:44 - This little lick sounds good when you play it, but when I hear JT’s original isolated track, I wonder if it was a mistake and not meant to be a variation. What do you think? Thanks for posting this. You really captured the original track down to the note!
I went to see Duran Duran at Budokan 4 times. John never played like recording. I was so disappointed. I always wondered why? I just love bass part of this song. It’s amazing!
Can you make a cover/tabs video of Arrow by Half•Alive? The bassline is amazing and underated. Plus I cant find a good source of tabs. Lovin the Duran!
@@arcanehornet ah okay from 7 9 to 6 8 and the 6 8 really stands out. Why does it do that? I actually thought it sounded kind of cool but it's not in key? (terrible with music theory)
@@czypauly07 yes, exactly, it’s not in key. The song is in C major, D# is not included in that key. Its purpose is to make a transition between two chords which happen to be a whole step apart. These are pretty common in a lot of bass lines, though it is surprising to see it in a pop song like this. I’m not that good at music theory either, but you can learn a lot by watching youtube videos or learning the basics on some websites online.
@@arcanehornet I can really hear it now ... I actually kind of like it though!. Maybe over the years its just progressively adjusted my ability to hear - like wearing bad glasses for too long! Yeah the feel of it! I have defo heard it before in other bass lines . I will watch out for it now :)
As a lifelong fan I remember listening to this song over and over just for the baseline..don't forget that in those days they had no looping capabilities per say so this would have been recorded in one take, just as you have done which is of amazing considering the amount of looping in today's productions...btw RIO is another great example of a smokin baseline which I believe you have covered as well...have a quick listen to sin of the city by DD...nice job! th-cam.com/video/3VGSfA9jlA0/w-d-xo.html

No he hasn't... where did you come up with that idea?
LOL he's well known as one of the greatest. Not sure what you're on about. Kind of a silly comment
John Taylor is one of the most underrated bassist of all time!
John Taylor and Frank Maudsley are lendgends!
100% agree!
No he isn't.. how do you figure that?

The ghost notes and syncopation is EVERYTHING.. very nice work here!
John Taylor is a genius.
And I'm...ten years old again. Thank you. John Taylor kicks ass.

wow dude...thats some nice bass playing alternating S and P methods right there....very smooth.
These basslines prove that rhythm is key
John Taylor is one of the most underrated bassist in history is one of the most overused sentences in history, we all know how bad azz he is
i didnt think the bass line was like that. Amazing writing, wow!
You're right, the original bass line has some popped notes not included here!
excellent video but its worth pointing out that JT doesn’t play it like this live, sometimes we can get bogged down in so much detail
@@andriealinsangao613 the bass is double tracked throughout the album, and there are also different mixes
@@metalSpike Wait, whaat?! Double-tracked bass? Now THAT's badass, and genius!
This is my favorite tab to play by far
Cool! Another Duran Duran song to learn, I've been playing some of their other songs lately and they are great!
This is amazing. I know I'm probably going to end up buying this bass. Sounds freaking sick and I'm just too in love with it 🤣
you can get same results with many basses. It's more fingers and audio production

I love this bass line. It is so good just to listen to it clearly. Thank you for posting this video.
Killer. Thanks for the clear cam angle. Learning this for our set list. "simple" but DYNAMIC bass line.
I always loved this song, so much fun to play
Such a killer tune. Great transcription!
Daaaaaammmmmnnnn this Is epic
Getting ready to pick this one up. You make it sound easy. Damn nice job!
Excellent timing on this cover. Props
Glad to see this is back up with the music!

This may be a dumb question, but what's the difference between the "x" and "(x)" ghost notes? I haven't seen that notation before.
(x) means you raise your hand physically hit the pickup or strings, but you don’t have to do it and you can just play a regular ghost note instead
its more accented is how I read it.
@@goredzilla You're not wrong. You'll get a more clicky sound by hitting the strings/pickups so in that sense it's also more accented ;)
Outstanding!
Fantastic 👍
Damn, that D sharp in the verse is really jarring to hear.
Where is that? can you put a timestamp?
@@czypauly07 0:29 for example, when he moves to the D chord he plays the D# which is a chromatic note (6 8 in the tab)

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells Pt1
Great cover, which model SB are you using and strings? Thanks
well, off to play Rock Band 2 once more
What does the (x) mean? It's the first time I've seen this.
its a way to notate the percussive sound of fingers hitting the strings, not quite a ghost note but just the placement of the finger on a string
tremendo tema, "Planet Earth" también tiene una línea de bajo bacán
