I think one of the main reasons people found Reala so interesting (before Journey of Dreams) was his general mysteriousness and elusiveness. Maybe it's because people knew so little about Reala that made him so appealing in the first place.

that's mostly sonic's problem(forces,lost world with how bare they are,sa2 outside shadow/eggman who even then could've had more detail and the jason griffith era outside unleashed,shadow in 06 & black knight) as sega's characters have personality they don't have to be convoluted mess like a square enix hero/villain.
I can actually kind of see where they were coming from with the samurai-style armor. Of course, the samurai were loyal to their daimyou, and so basically while the persona mask shows Reala's loyalty in lore, the samurai armor is meant to show his loyalty in design. I kind of think it looks pretty cool and menacing, as Reala should be, but at the same time, it does look kinda weird, especially for us outside of Japan since we wouldn't think as much of their historical symbolism.
I thought it had something to do with how he was in charge of directing the lower ranks and his loyalty to Wizeman so I agree a lot, as well as the contrasting vibes and interests.
Uh, DIGI Valentine, I think you may have forgotten or overlooked some important aspects of Reala. However, I am only going to focus on the one that I find the most important: NiGHTS and Reala do, in fact, care about each other. I know you did discuss the "bond" between the two in your video and no, I am not saying that NiGHTS and Reala are in love. I'm not one of those fans, even though I do find it to be kinda cute. What I am talking about is how Reala goes about confronting NiGHTS. As you mentioned in the video, Reala doesn't normally go straight to attacking NiGHTS (with the exception of his introduction during Helen's dream) and instead begins with a conversation. If you pay attention to what he is saying, Reala is trying to convince NiGHTS to return to Wizeman without a fight. He only resorts to locking NiGHTS up/battling NiGHTS after NiGHTS shoots his offer down. Even when Cerberus is sent to help Reala capture NiGHTS, Reala warns NiGHTS to behave or NiGHTS will be gobbled up by Cerberus. While Reala may take in some delight in seeing the fear in NiGHTS's eyes after being told this, Reala didn't have to warn NiGHTS about behaving at all. From time to time, you can see that Reala feels bad to some extent about having to use force against NiGHTS although he still has much anger towards NiGHTS for leaving. You just gotta pay close attention to it. As for how NiGHTS could possibly care about Reala, there are some moments. For example, when NiGHTS defeats Reala for the first time in Will's dream world Delight City, NiGHTS becomes concerned about Reala's well-being when he appears to be badly hurt. Also, NiGHTS normally tries to brush Reala off as NiGHTS knows that Reala is probably there to try and convince them to return to Wizeman before they end up butting heads and things escalating into a fight, hinting that NiGHTS may not want to fight with Reala at all but, because they're on such opposing side, it is something that simply cannot be avoided. When Reala tells NiGHTS that he is not trying to pick a fight when Will first visits Delight City, NiGHTS does not try to force him to leave and does in fact listen to what he has to say even if what Reala says is hurtful to NiGHTS. I can argue that there is in deed a good enough amount of their bond displayed in Journey Of Dreams, however, I can agree that Sega could have done more for these two if they were willing to take more risks. If Sega decides to finally make a NiGHTS 3 (WHICH THEY BETTER) I would love for them to explore the bond between these two a bit deeper and maybe even have a flashback level which could explain what happened to the two. I think that'd be a really cool idea and would love to see it!
I prefer Reala's old design as well, but I think it's journey of dreams design could work. If the mask, necklace and purple neck thing where dropped. As well as having his nails a different color. The more armored look could show just how far he and nights have drifted. While Nights keeps his playful circus look Reala takes on samurai inspired armor to better serve wiseman. Just a random thought.
I know this is 2 years late, but I actually think they should keep the ruffle collar! The reason I love Reala and this game in general is the whimsical Jestercore vibes I get from it. But I do think that the collar should be a different color as well, maybe black or gold to compliment his regal-ish look. However I think they should at least simplify/tone down Reala's samurai design, it looks a little bit too complicated especially with the designs and stuff all over his battle suit. Also definitely remove the mask. I'd rather they take it away and add something different that is still noticeable, just not on the face. One of the things that is most important in Character Design is the face itself, and shape is extremely dire to the face because thats the most recognizable aspect. Lots of circles make a character seem more friendly, for example, Mickey Mouse or Mario. Smooth shapes in general make a character seem more friendly. On the apposing side a character with lots of Triangles or Sharper edges makes them seem more prickly and aggressive, something you see in so many villians. You see these taken advantage of in many media, ironically comparing Sonic's team to Shadows team is an amazing example of this. Hiding shape takes away character to a character. So in this case hiding Reala's Face is a hard blow, because if he had softer colors with his redesign he'd look like a tough ally of NiGHTS. So after that long winded explanation on Shape affected a portrayal of a character, please take away the damn mask. Im so sorry for doing this to you

Jackle > Reala. That's right, I said it. EDIT: I feel like Sonic Team have this problem with Metal Sonic as well. You have this really cool concept for a rival that's wheeled out once a game for a by-the-numbers boss fight and after the first couple of times it just feels limp. They don't even try to mirror your movements or anything - Metal Sonic flies around above you and fires lasers or throws debris; Reala throws dirty balls. Weak. They need to take a leaf out the Bayonetta or Devil May Cry book, where you have those fights against your equal that are invariably the best parts of the game.
They had shadow the hedgehog in Sonic adventure 2. They als have the sonic boss battles in Shadow the Hedgehog. In Sonic Generations the rival boss battles are pretty interesting.
Personally the fact that metal sonic is more then just a copy of sonic is a part of the reason i like him so much. Would i like him to use more of sonic's moves in a 3d fight? Yes but I wouldn't want him to just be a A.I controlled version of my character.

NiGHTS is genderless, but according to Iizuka it's up to player to interpret, which means that you'll be right by calling him by any pronoun, that's what I like about this character

I think I get the reasoning behind Reala’s samurai getup in JoD. From what I’ve seen, traditional samurai in Japanese culture are often portrayed as villainous enforcers who’ll do anything to carry out their master’s will, morality be damned. This puts them in direct conflict with the ronin, masterless smaurai who adhere to their own morals and are often portrayed as heroes. If that doesn’t fit NiGHTS and Reala to a ‘t’, I dunno what does.
I kinda did the same thing, but with NiGHTS. The only experience I had knowing NiGHTS, was only when I played Sega Superstars Tennis when I was 4. I didn't know NiGHTS' name, so I called her "Purple lady"... yeah...

Always thought Reala had a sick design. Cartoony and colorful, but had a kind of presence that still allowed you to take him seriously. Also cool how the Nightmarens are humanoid but their own thing as well, very original. Of course the redesign does make it seem like he just came back from some Eyes Wide Shut orgy
In honesty when I look at Reala I see a character who reminds me of me do as your told or else your parent is going to punish you harshly if you fail even if you did your best you still get scolded what not,seems to me he does things for his master which is really his dad if he created him and Reala mostly does this out of fear and mostly doesn't care what his kin does really NiGHT and I see he is just a guy afraid and is still young like NiGHT and I feel SEGA could have maybe did something with the character where he was set free or something instead of what Digi showed us. Also wonder if anyone would see this in 2019?

I just watched your Who Dat? on NiGHTS, and I have to say, both that and this video were masterfully made. You, sir, have made a born-again NiGHTS fan of me.
Goodbye18000 I do too, but I wish he wore an elegant torn long jacket or wear a similar outfit to NiGHTS, but a bit more detailed instead. I'm assuming since they're opposites, while NiGHTS wears a circus performer that intends to invite harmless fun, Reala wears the samurai outfit to make him a harmful fighter, which a fighter is a performer to some extent.
I honestly prefer his JOD design too. While I think his original design is okay, it just seems kinda lazy to me, like Wizeman was all "I'll just throw a vest on him, maybe give him some boots and gloves and call it a day" but (while there's still no pants) his new design just seems like a more complete outfit to me.

I don't really see him as Shadow...at least not in the games that present shadow well. Shadow was never trying to be evil in Sonic Adventure 2, despite some words. He genuinely believed what he was doing was right from the few weeks he remembered being alive. Shadow is just a little socially awkward I guess. It shows in his speech.
Half of those are big no, most of them are either not evil, not the second in command and are the one in complete power, most of them put themselves higher then their creator specifically Bass. Only one I really see as that is closer to Resla is Scanty and Kneesock.
I actually found out recently that nights journey of Dreams was originally supposed to be on what I believe was the PlayStation 2 at the time but at the very last minute they decided to go for the Wii and because of that a lot of stuff had to be re-programmed to be compatible. Its like what happened to Bayonetta 2 only they werent able to expand the deadline or someting. when that happened a lot of stuff unfortunately was not able to be updated in time and cut out. For example in Spring Valley there wasn supposed to be a meteor crashing into the mountain, bombs at the casino and several races against Reala e and nights actually acknowledging that Helen was able to get herself out of trouble without his help. So ya maybe we were supposed to see some sort of end for reala after the battle and it may have just been lost along with the other content
While i've never been a big fan of Sonic I do remember getting Sonic and the Black Knight when I was a kid and enjoying the story. The wii-mote waggling was tiring and made the gameplay pretty repetitive sure (though as a kid I was more forgiving of this aspect), but the themes of the game and the depth of Merlina as a character struck me as very interesting. The idea of someone so in love with the kingdom they serve under that they would let it be corrupted if it would make it eternal rather than eventually falling to ruin is tragic and a very believable motivation. Its less selfish than the usual villain desire for eternal life since its focused on an entire community/city lasting forever rather than an individual. And I think the music helped convey the emotion of the character very well as well as the symbolism with the decaying flower. And for how cheesy and silly Sonic usually is his response to Merlina's desire for an eternal Kingdom was actually pretty meaningful. Him saying things like "what good is there in a world that goes in forever?" and "every world has its end. I know that's kinda sad but... That's why we gotta live life to the fullest in the time we have" was a good message.
Yes they can. The sonic games pre sonic colors have very good stories. Specially the sonic storybook games. The problem is they don’t hire those guys to make more stories...

Also I feel like there could of been but due to it being on Wii and not on the PS3 and Xbox360 there must of been some things happen behind the scene of making JOD we have no idea what could of happen. Maybe one day but who knows. Anyway;s as I was saying...making a NiGHTS 3 would be a risky task to do I feel like trying to re-create as only a few selective people can do it! Plus would even sell well to begin with? I don't know for now lets just be hopeful that SEGA is still going no matter what has happen they still care about NiGHTS and all the other SEGA characters as much as you do but I feel like its much more difficult then we imagine it I don't know (plus they do make other games besides sonic mind you and also doing because it might be easy to do or just playing it safe) I just hate seeing negativity around SEGA and its coming to a point where I just had enough of it and feels unfair. Maybe one day it will happen but don't hold you breath on it just be hopeful and grateful that there still here. Anyway's rant over!

The fact that they have SO MANY IPs they could focus on other than Sonic but are constantly collecting dust on the shelves, it shows people have every right to call SEGA out. My only experience with this franchise was Journey of Dreams. I remember thinking how weird it was that Reala just vanishes after that last fight. Really liked your analysis of Reala's design against NiGHTS. But I agree, I wanted to like Reala more than I do, but he's not in the limelight enough.
If the rumors are true that we are NOT going to have another Sonic and SEGA all-stars racing game, Then I'm EXTREMELY beyond furious! Because the rumors also say it's going to be a *SONIC ONLY* game. I love sonic, truly from the bottom of my heart. But they need to show their other series some love. I don't want just sonic. I know North Star fist and Bayonetta 3 are coming out, but I (and i'm certain anyone else here) want to see a 3rd NiGHTS game, a new Ristar game another JetSet Radio game, and a return of golden axe. These were all really good series and it's a shame to see them go to waste. Sonic and sega all stars racing was the only way I could see those characters glorified with updated graphics. I was hoping that they'd put bayonetta in a new one. Please for the love of all that is good with your company, bring back the good stuff. I like sonic but I like NiGHTS more. And I liked shinobi, ristar, golden axe, arrow flash, altered beast, etc. Just as much as Sonic as well. AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON ECCO JR.!!!
Know what would have made both Reala and the entirety of JoD’s story a whole lot better? If that shitty ass bait and switch babby’s first tragedy asspull plot twist in the true ending was revealed by _Reala,_ not Wizeman. Think about it. NiGHTS said she knew about the No Ontological Inertia bullshit with her and Wizeman all along, right? Shouldn’t that mean Reala did too? Because if so, _why didn’t he say that?_ That would have given the kids a way better reason not to want to help NiGHTS kill Wizeman, and it would have made Reala himself a far more sympathetic character. Sure, you could assume that Reala knew about it and that he wanted to stop NiGHTS so that Wizeman - and thus he - wouldn’t die, but since he never said so, there’s no reason to think Sonic Team actually thought of that.
Your experience with Reala mirrors mine with the Sonic game series: After finishing both SA1 and SA2, I was hyped at the the potentially epic stories developers could craft from that point onwards, but my expectations got gradually shattered as I played game after game. One difference I can see is that your reasonable expectations concerning this character were shattered thanks to only one game
I'm sure they don't see each other as siblings either due to their views and their background or because of the subconscious of the dreamers, despite being made by the same creator or they don't entirely understand how family works like humans do
Gonna be upfront with you Digi, I can KINDA see where they where coming from with the Journey of Dreams design. I think they went with the armor to further emphasize the contrast between him and Nights; Nights is a carefree, easygoing, fun loving jokester, her appearance has an air of "Entertainer" to it, playing off that jester motif. Reala, on the polar opposite side of the spectrum, is MEANT to reflect his much more serious attitude. His later design screams "Combat"! While Nights puts a lot of emphasis on her jester aspects, Reala is geared more to resemble a knight, someone who is willing to fight to the death uphold his master's will! Someone who's always prepared to chew bubblegum and kick @$5, and brother, HE ALL OUTTA BUBBLEGUM! And I think they went with the samurai motif because it's a Japanese knight, which is ironic because jesters are a more European concept, and it would've given him more character had they went with more medieval looking armor, and it'd still fit in with the whole jester schtick!
I think that Sonic Team do not want to touch NiGHTS's past. Even making it canon that NiGHTS and Reala used to be friends might be too much; it's unclear wether NiGHTS was ever loyal to Wizeman at all, and they don't want to answer that question. Is it a good idea that they're doing that? I'm not sure, really. There might have been a better way to write the "beef" between NiGHTS and Reala that doesn't make their prior friendship obvious. Do you think that Sonic Team could have had it both ways?
Dang it digi! I didn't know about Reala before video but now I feel like a fan even though I haven't played the games. I read through the other comments and found one that painted Reala as a caring brother rather than a bad guy and I feel like its easier to like him since he puts Nights in cages rather than be like Doctor Eggman and do things such as attempt to destroy the world or attempt to kill Nights all the time. I want to tell myself you have a point and they should've explored this betrayal feeling but maybe if Reala didn't agree with the entirety of Wizeman's plans or how Wizeman does things or thought it mattered if Nights wanted to be rebellious once Wizeman takes over, I can see how he can still be nice in a weird way to Nights. I don't like how it looks as if there's moments when Reala is trying to distance Nights from the kids. It could be from feelings that Nights betrayed him and doesn't deserve friends or he probably feels the kids are encouraging Nights to behave the way she does and wants them to stop that. Okay, now I feel like I'm frying my own brain trying to contemplate more on Reala and it probably won't matter with Balan Wonderworld coming out next year.
I'd like to see a NiGHTS game where you yourself are the visitor like you get to fully customize yourself as in gender, hair, body shape, name personality and dream world etc. And maybe there's actual dialogue like in the NiGHTS Wii game and maybe NiGHTS will say the name you entered and stuff like that ya know? I mean if that would happen in an app or an actual NiGHTS game I'd so play it definitely.
If there was a new NiGHTS game, i'd like to see a scene where Reala gets somewhat choked up for having to fight NiGHTS, but overall, still go through with it.
I mean, for me; I personally like both designs, though I do understand your reasoning as to why you dislike NJOD's Reala design. It is quite cluttered, indeed, but it gives off a complicated idea of who Reala is. Not me saying that Reala's JOD design is better, I'm just saying how, compared to NiGHTS, whose sleeker design gives us the idea that they're free and not-so-complicated, whilst Reala's gives a sense of boundness, he doesn't have freedom; he always obeys to his master, which ultimately binds him, unlike NiGHTS. That's just me personally, see how you wish to see, perception is free after all, not bound to a single lens, of course.
Fun fact: In Sega Superstar Tennis, Reala's introduction phrase was "There Is No Nights" Idk why since he doesn't say that in Journey Of Dreams, but he does anyway
I think it would be good if nights and reala would’ve been best friends, but since nights left Wiseman he felt upset and felt that nights betrayed him he would fell anger towards her but also guilt nights would feel guilt for breaking the strong bond her and reala had
If we get a nights 3 they’ll use the journey of dreams design except give him a cape & Use the mysterious same dream language he used from the first game, that’s what I wanted.
I wish I knew a lot more about this series years ago. I was only introduced to NiGHTS and Reala when my brother and I played Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed. (Along with all other non-Sonic characters)

But with the intro...I thought you were gunna talk about the weird relationship between nights and Reala in game during journey into dreams....I see so many people talk about "oh they were both created by master Wiseman they're siblings" Anyone who has watched a single cut scene in that game between Reala and nights know that "thats a good boy" and wall slaming is NOT sibling behaviour..
Weirdly enough, in the game, the stripes on his hat is not very diluted but his official art portrayed his stripes as diluted in Journey of Dreams. And his hat horns have that sharp cornered curves in the game, but rounded in the official art. I'm thinking about Wizeman, but I'm not sure about a video about him Also, I want their masks. Kinda wanted to see more of NiGHTS with her persona, like a flashback cutscene where she wore it most of the cutscene before ditching it. (Excluding the near ending of JoD)

that's mostly sonic's problem(forces,lost world with how bare they are,sa2 outside shadow/eggman who even then could've had more detail and the jason griffith era outside unleashed,shadow in 06 & black knight) as sega's characters have personality they don't have to be convoluted mess like a square enix hero/villain.
I can actually kind of see where they were coming from with the samurai-style armor. Of course, the samurai were loyal to their daimyou, and so basically while the persona mask shows Reala's loyalty in lore, the samurai armor is meant to show his loyalty in design. I kind of think it looks pretty cool and menacing, as Reala should be, but at the same time, it does look kinda weird, especially for us outside of Japan since we wouldn't think as much of their historical symbolism.

Uh, DIGI Valentine, I think you may have forgotten or overlooked some important aspects of Reala. However, I am only going to focus on the one that I find the most important: NiGHTS and Reala do, in fact, care about each other. I know you did discuss the "bond" between the two in your video and no, I am not saying that NiGHTS and Reala are in love. I'm not one of those fans, even though I do find it to be kinda cute. What I am talking about is how Reala goes about confronting NiGHTS. As you mentioned in the video, Reala doesn't normally go straight to attacking NiGHTS (with the exception of his introduction during Helen's dream) and instead begins with a conversation. If you pay attention to what he is saying, Reala is trying to convince NiGHTS to return to Wizeman without a fight. He only resorts to locking NiGHTS up/battling NiGHTS after NiGHTS shoots his offer down. Even when Cerberus is sent to help Reala capture NiGHTS, Reala warns NiGHTS to behave or NiGHTS will be gobbled up by Cerberus. While Reala may take in some delight in seeing the fear in NiGHTS's eyes after being told this, Reala didn't have to warn NiGHTS about behaving at all. From time to time, you can see that Reala feels bad to some extent about having to use force against NiGHTS although he still has much anger towards NiGHTS for leaving. You just gotta pay close attention to it. As for how NiGHTS could possibly care about Reala, there are some moments. For example, when NiGHTS defeats Reala for the first time in Will's dream world Delight City, NiGHTS becomes concerned about Reala's well-being when he appears to be badly hurt. Also, NiGHTS normally tries to brush Reala off as NiGHTS knows that Reala is probably there to try and convince them to return to Wizeman before they end up butting heads and things escalating into a fight, hinting that NiGHTS may not want to fight with Reala at all but, because they're on such opposing side, it is something that simply cannot be avoided. When Reala tells NiGHTS that he is not trying to pick a fight when Will first visits Delight City, NiGHTS does not try to force him to leave and does in fact listen to what he has to say even if what Reala says is hurtful to NiGHTS. I can argue that there is in deed a good enough amount of their bond displayed in Journey Of Dreams, however, I can agree that Sega could have done more for these two if they were willing to take more risks. If Sega decides to finally make a NiGHTS 3 (WHICH THEY BETTER) I would love for them to explore the bond between these two a bit deeper and maybe even have a flashback level which could explain what happened to the two. I think that'd be a really cool idea and would love to see it!

I grew up with NiGHTS. This comment gave me unexplainable joy.
I prefer Reala's old design as well, but I think it's journey of dreams design could work. If the mask, necklace and purple neck thing where dropped. As well as having his nails a different color. The more armored look could show just how far he and nights have drifted. While Nights keeps his playful circus look Reala takes on samurai inspired armor to better serve wiseman. Just a random thought.
I know this is 2 years late, but I actually think they should keep the ruffle collar! The reason I love Reala and this game in general is the whimsical Jestercore vibes I get from it. But I do think that the collar should be a different color as well, maybe black or gold to compliment his regal-ish look. However I think they should at least simplify/tone down Reala's samurai design, it looks a little bit too complicated especially with the designs and stuff all over his battle suit. Also definitely remove the mask. I'd rather they take it away and add something different that is still noticeable, just not on the face. One of the things that is most important in Character Design is the face itself, and shape is extremely dire to the face because thats the most recognizable aspect. Lots of circles make a character seem more friendly, for example, Mickey Mouse or Mario. Smooth shapes in general make a character seem more friendly. On the apposing side a character with lots of Triangles or Sharper edges makes them seem more prickly and aggressive, something you see in so many villians. You see these taken advantage of in many media, ironically comparing Sonic's team to Shadows team is an amazing example of this. Hiding shape takes away character to a character. So in this case hiding Reala's Face is a hard blow, because if he had softer colors with his redesign he'd look like a tough ally of NiGHTS. So after that long winded explanation on Shape affected a portrayal of a character, please take away the damn mask.

EDIT: I feel like Sonic Team have this problem with Metal Sonic as well. You have this really cool concept for a rival that's wheeled out once a game for a by-the-numbers boss fight and after the first couple of times it just feels limp. They don't even try to mirror your movements or anything - Metal Sonic flies around above you and fires lasers or throws debris; Reala throws dirty balls. Weak. They need to take a leaf out the Bayonetta or Devil May Cry book, where you have those fights against your equal that are invariably the best parts of the game.

NiGHTS is genderless, but according to Iizuka it's up to player to interpret, which means that you'll be right by calling him by any pronoun, that's what I like about this character

I think I get the reasoning behind Reala’s samurai getup in JoD. From what I’ve seen, traditional samurai in Japanese culture are often portrayed as villainous enforcers who’ll do anything to carry out their master’s will, morality be damned. This puts them in direct conflict with the ronin, masterless smaurai who adhere to their own morals and are often portrayed as heroes. If that doesn’t fit NiGHTS and Reala to a ‘t’, I dunno what does.

Always thought Reala had a sick design. Cartoony and colorful, but had a kind of presence that still allowed you to take him seriously. Also cool how the Nightmarens are humanoid but their own thing as well, very original. Of course the redesign does make it seem like he just came back from some Eyes Wide Shut orgy
In honesty when I look at Reala I see a character who reminds me of me do as your told or else your parent is going to punish you harshly if you fail even if you did your best you still get scolded what not,seems to me he does things for his master which is really his dad if he created him and Reala mostly does this out of fear and mostly doesn't care what his kin does really NiGHT and I see he is just a guy afraid and is still young like NiGHT and I feel SEGA could have maybe did something with the character where he was set free or something instead of what Digi showed us. Goodbye18000 I do too, but I wish he wore an elegant torn long jacket or wear a similar outfit to NiGHTS, but a bit more detailed instead. I'm assuming since they're opposites, while NiGHTS wears a circus performer that intends to invite harmless fun, Reala wears the samurai outfit to make him a harmful fighter, which a fighter is a performer to some extent.
I honestly prefer his JOD design too. While I think his original design is okay, it just seems kinda lazy to me, like Wizeman was all "I'll just throw a vest on him, maybe give him some boots and gloves and call it a day" but (while there's still no pants) his new design just seems like a more complete outfit to me.
It would be pretty cool if Nights and Reala had a Moses and Rameses type of relationship (siblings turned mortal enemies).

I actually found out recently that nights journey of Dreams was originally supposed to be on what I believe was the PlayStation 2 at the time but at the very last minute they decided to go for the Wii and because of that a lot of stuff had to be re-programmed to be compatible. Its like what happened to Bayonetta 2 only they werent able to expand the deadline or someting. when that happened a lot of stuff unfortunately was not able to be updated in time and cut out. For example in Spring Valley there wasn supposed to be a meteor crashing into the mountain, bombs at the casino and several races against Reala e and nights actually acknowledging that Helen was able to get herself out of trouble without his help. So ya maybe we were supposed to see some sort of end for reala after the battle and it may have just been lost along with the other content

While i've never been a big fan of Sonic I do remember getting Sonic and the Black Knight when I was a kid and enjoying the story. The wii-mote waggling was tiring and made the gameplay pretty repetitive sure (though as a kid I was more forgiving of this aspect), but the themes of the game and the depth of Merlina as a character struck me as very interesting. The idea of someone so in love with the kingdom they serve under that they would let it be corrupted if it would make it eternal rather than eventually falling to ruin is tragic and a very believable motivation. Its less selfish than the usual villain desire for eternal life since its focused on an entire community/city lasting forever rather than an individual. And I think the music helped convey the emotion of the character very well as well as the symbolism with the decaying flower. And for how cheesy and silly Sonic usually is his response to Merlina's desire for an eternal Kingdom was actually pretty meaningful. Him saying things like "what good is there in a world that goes in forever?" and "every world has its end. I know that's kinda sad but... That's why we gotta live life to the fullest in the time we have" was a good message.

Also I feel like there could of been but due to it being on Wii and not on the PS3 and Xbox360 there must of been some things happen behind the scene of making JOD we have no idea what could of happen. Maybe one day but who knows. Anyway;s as I was saying...making a NiGHTS 3 would be a risky task to do I feel like trying to re-create as only a few selective people can do it! Plus would even sell well to begin with? I don't know for now lets just be hopeful that SEGA is still going no matter what has happen they still care about NiGHTS and all the other SEGA characters as much as you do but I feel like its much more difficult then we imagine it I don't know (plus they do make other games besides sonic mind you and also doing because it might be easy to do or just playing it safe) I just hate seeing negativity around SEGA and its coming to a point where I just had enough of it and feels unfair. My only experience with this franchise was Journey of Dreams. I remember thinking how weird it was that Reala just vanishes after that last fight. Really liked your analysis of Reala's design against NiGHTS. But I agree, I wanted to like Reala more than I do, but he's not in the limelight enough.
If the rumors are true that we are NOT going to have another Sonic and SEGA all-stars racing game, Then I'm EXTREMELY beyond furious! Because the rumors also say it's going to be a *SONIC ONLY* game. I love sonic, truly from the bottom of my heart. But they need to show their other series some love. I don't want just sonic. I know North Star fist and Bayonetta 3 are coming out, but I (and i'm certain anyone else here) want to see a 3rd NiGHTS game, a new Ristar game another JetSet Radio game, and a return of golden axe. These were all really good series and it's a shame to see them go to waste. Sonic and sega all stars racing was the only way I could see those characters glorified with updated graphics. I was hoping that they'd put bayonetta in a new one. Please for the love of all that is good with your company, bring back the good stuff. I like sonic but I like NiGHTS more. Think about it. NiGHTS said she knew about the No Ontological Inertia bullshit with her and Wizeman all along, right? Shouldn’t that mean Reala did too? Because if so, _why didn’t he say that?_ That would have given the kids a way better reason not to want to help NiGHTS kill Wizeman, and it would have made Reala himself a far more sympathetic character.
Sure, you could assume that Reala knew about it and that he wanted to stop NiGHTS so that Wizeman - and thus he - wouldn’t die, but since he never said so, there’s no reason to think Sonic Team actually thought of that.

Gonna be upfront with you Digi, I can KINDA see where they where coming from with the Journey of Dreams design.
I think they went with the armor to further emphasize the contrast between him and Nights; Nights is a carefree, easygoing, fun loving jokester, her appearance has an air of "Entertainer" to it, playing off that jester motif. Reala, on the polar opposite side of the spectrum, is MEANT to reflect his much more serious attitude. His later design screams "Combat"! While Nights puts a lot of emphasis on her jester aspects, Reala is geared more to resemble a knight, someone who is willing to fight to the death uphold his master's will! Someone who's always prepared to chew bubblegum and kick @$5, and brother, HE ALL OUTTA BUBBLEGUM!
And I think they went with the samurai motif because it's a Japanese knight, which is ironic because jesters are a more European concept, and it would've given him more character had they went with more medieval looking armor, and it'd still fit in with the whole jester schtick!

Even making it canon that NiGHTS and Reala used to be friends might be too much; it's unclear wether NiGHTS was ever loyal to Wizeman at all, and they don't want to answer that question.

There might have been a better way to write the "beef" between NiGHTS and Reala that doesn't make their prior friendship obvious.

Dang it digi! I didn't know about Reala before video but now I feel like a fan even though I haven't played the games. I read through the other comments and found one that painted Reala as a caring brother rather than a bad guy and I feel like its easier to like him since he puts Nights in cages rather than be like Doctor Eggman and do things such as attempt to destroy the world or attempt to kill Nights all the time. I want to tell myself you have a point and they should've explored this betrayal feeling but maybe if Reala didn't agree with the entirety of Wizeman's plans or how Wizeman does things or thought it mattered if Nights wanted to be rebellious once Wizeman takes over, I can see how he can still be nice in a weird way to Nights. I don't like how it looks as if there's moments when Reala is trying to distance Nights from the kids. It could be from feelings that Nights betrayed him and doesn't deserve friends or he probably feels the kids are encouraging Nights to behave the way she does and wants them to stop that. Okay, now I feel like I'm frying my own brain trying to contemplate more on Reala and it probably won't matter with Balan Wonderworld coming out next year.

Not me saying that Reala's JOD design is better, I'm just saying how, compared to NiGHTS, whose sleeker design gives us the idea that they're free and not-so-complicated, whilst Reala's gives a sense of boundness, he doesn't have freedom; he always obeys to his master, which ultimately binds him, unlike NiGHTS. That's just me personally, see how you wish to see, perception is free after all, not bound to a single lens, of course.

I think it would be good if nights and reala would’ve been best friends, but since nights left Wiseman he felt upset and felt that nights betrayed him he would fell anger towards her but also guilt nights would feel guilt for breaking the strong bond her and reala had

I wish I knew a lot more about this series years ago. I was only introduced to NiGHTS and Reala when my brother and I played Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed. (Along with all other non-Sonic characters)

Very good points made on Realas, well more like lack of character honestly. But with the intro...I thought you were gunna talk about the weird relationship between nights and Reala in game during journey into dreams....I see so many people talk about "oh they were both created by master Wiseman they're siblings" Anyone who has watched a single cut scene in that game between Reala and nights know that "thats a good boy" and wall slaming is NOT sibling behaviour..

Weirdly enough, in the game, the stripes on his hat is not very diluted but his official art portrayed his stripes as diluted in Journey of Dreams. And his hat horns have that sharp cornered curves in the game, but rounded in the official art. I'm thinking about Wizeman, but I'm not sure about a video about him
Also, I want their masks. Kinda wanted to see more of NiGHTS with her persona, like a flashback cutscene where she wore it most of the cutscene before ditching it. (Excluding the near ending of JoD)

3:27 I still hear "There is no NiGHTS" I know it's supposed to be "Beadichinoa NiGHTS", but it just doesn't sound like it to me and I don't know why. 😣
