  • Clips from the closing day January 9 1993 of The Gasworks hard rock club in Toronto, Canada. Celebrating a quarter century of presenting some of the premier up and coming hard rock and heavy metal acts the final day at The Gasworks saw performances by members of Goddo, Skid Row (Sebastian Bach), Triumph (Gil Moore, Phil X), Helix (Brian Volmer), Platinum Blonde (Mark Holmes), Saga (Ian Crichton), Coney Hatch (Andy Curran), Slik Toxic and many more.
This video is a pre-trailer for the documentary film "Don't Call Last Call" which takes a look back at the big hair, heavy metal era of clubs and bars and what it took for a working musician to survive and succeed. Its about the times, the people, and of course the players ... a number of who went on to achieve international stardom.

I'm from Argentina and had the chance to visit GW during 1982 during a Conney Hatch presentation. Wow that was amazing.....the band so close to the people, beer and more....my eyes were in shock, nothing similar those days....

This clip actually made me feel grateful about being 55....'ish.....'cause after my brother played there, I was a regular at this Rockin' bar when Live music was at its best!!! Some of you might recall Teleman aka Wrabit....double drummers, Jeff Steck and Lou Nelson.(also lead vocals)..lead guitarist, John Albany (pre-Lee Aaron)...awesome harmonies to some of the best all time classics by Led Z, Toto, Styx, Foreigner....

I played the Gasworks on several occasions with 2 different bands. In the late mid 70s with Wednesday and the early 90s with Marshal Law. I went there so many times that I can't count. Always had a great time. I remember having to drink Molson Export in quarts because it was always so loud there, the only hand signal that worked was 2 crossed fingers signifying Molson Ex! I also played upstairs at Cornelius a few times but it wasn't as cool as the 'works. I also remember there was teh first time I had a Shwarma. From the kitchen. Even had a "good time" in the dressing room! Lovely sweet girl she was. One of the best gigs to be had in Toronto.

Black Sabbath used to hang out there while they were recording the Never Say Die album in Toronto in 1978, as per Tony Iommi's biography 'Iron Man'.

Totally blown away that the song, "All Night Rock and Roll Party" is from Marshall Law's cd, Read 'em and Weep! I played on that record and gigged with them too! Sad to say but the truth must out, I'm not on that song. But I've played it!

Oh that place was sweet. Bouncers prided themselves in how many heads they could bust in a night.

Never understood the hype that developed around this bar. Just a terrible layout for seeing bands...such a long skinny room with the stage facing the opposite wall a few feet away, and for the half of the bar nearest the entrance, the stage couldn't even be seen. Always preferred The Tube back in the day!
