Really excited about seeing you and your tractors. Plan to be there Thursday morning. Along with you I also plan to look up Sherry Schaefer the first thing on Thursday.
Awesome tractors you do an amazing amount of time to make sure they look & operate perfectly I wonder how they would do to a pulling sled . Thanks for your great videos & showing us your great collection of agriculture equipment & your wonderful tractors The 5020 has the same shift pattern as my uncle's 4010 . I think they were made in the '60s but I'm not sure . I used to think it was a big tractor until I drove up beside it with the 1456 I operating for my boss & my boss kept getting bigger horsepower tractors and larger equipment to use . Sorry for my long comment . Watching your channel makes me remember the good old days ( maybe ? ) before all the computerized equipment .
You guys took that 5020 from what it’d look like if the Munsters owned it or chip foose butchered it to beautiful bad-ass show quality tractor! Love the battery box and those FAT front tires! You guys are so talented.
Hi ,My name is Larry Armstrong I was raised on the farm I retired from driving trucks 18 wheelers and dump trucks. BUT I Farmlng and farm tractors I really like those two John Deeres 8 V 71and the 12 V 71 Nice ,I think there different keep up the good work ...!! I LIKE VISIT YOUR FARM IN PERSON TO SEE FARMING IN 2024.. BE SAFE... L.A. OF MARYLAND
Jon,. Jake, & Tom Guys the 5020 with the 12V,. Looks great for the small amt of time you had to work on it. The short visit I had with you guys was great, hope to see all three of you again soon
That's a sexy machine. Painting the manifolds definitely did a lot for the looks, even though it won't last too long. Little touches like that make all the difference on a show machine.
Muffler paint lasts surprisingly long, especially since these tractors aren’t used on a daily basis. But thank you, the little touches are what takes it over the top!
Just recently started watching your vids on TH-cam every single one of them are absolutely amazing I basically binge watched some of your vids love your tractor collection got some badass tractors in there man keep doing what ya doing your TH-cam channel gonna grow big thank you also for putting food on our tables and all the hard work y’all do really appreciated
@@RennerStockFarms Yes sir! You and your family do amazing work! So nice that you share it with everyone. It is not cheap to transport that many tractors.
Detroit’s are good motors we’ve always called them a oversized 2 stroke air compressors. Back in the day I drove a new 13 letter shit spreader with a silver 8v-92 Detroit in it ya just had to hold on the floor and bang gears
Good engines? That's funny. They do great under zero load/over powered for the job. Throttle should be a toggle switch. Tractor does look cool, though.
@@jeffsmith9328 just like most Macks. Ain't got enough HP/torque, to tear anything up. Good water pump engine or a city bus. They'll teach you shift gears, that's 4 sure.
When I was a kid in the 70s we had a neighbor put an 8v Detroit in his JD 4520 you could hear it 10 miles away and I remember all it would do pulling hard was wheel hop, he tried everything and could never get it right . My dad had the exact same tractor bone stock and we farmed the same acres and crops yet the neighbor eventually went broke while my dad just kept humming along with his stock unaltered JD tractors over the years and became a multi millionaire doing it..
Jon - Jake please tell me about some of the tools. Is the oil pot heater set to a specific temperature? Is that a cooking pot or made for parts heating? Jon used a metal jig with ears helping to set up the axle pipe stand - who was that purchased from? Appreciate your help.
All that work just to show it to someone else. Hey Delbert! Go get Billy Bob. Tell me to come look at this green son of a gun. And bring me a can of Skoal.
*Fun Fact:* Back in the 70's and 80's John Deere was bragging that it was using the heaviest casting of any heavy machinery manufacturer at the time. That was likely 100% true. The problem was, they had to make very thing so massively overbuilt due to the fact they were using the worst metal they could find, which was from the 'tin can' recycling push that was going on at the time. By the time that garbage metal had made it through the casting process, it was so weak that much of it could barely hold threads. Hence why you would find components that normally only needed a 1/2-inch bolt to hold them on fastened down with 3/4 to 1-inch bolts! The metal at times could be so weak that just tightening a 1/2-inch bolt to spec risked stripping out the threads in the castings.
@@RJ1999x try it on ethanol and use casot 927 maxima. you will nned a glow plug to start it as ethanol is 113 octane and burns much slower than diesel/petrol, but it runs cooler reduces emissions also. the casot 927 maxima can go thru the bottom and dry sump it with valve plumed into to the ethanol intake to premix and burn off then add more as required for total loss, this would make a much cleaner running 2 stroke with more power.
Not particularly, but if something good pops up we are sure to give it a look. We are hoping to repower one of Jake’s tractors this winter with another Detroit.
TOTALLY AWESOME! That beautiful beast sounds angry in a good way! If I ever won the lottery I would have me a few of those in a climate controlled building!
I would really like to talk to one of you . I have my 5020 torn down and I’m ready to start the reposed but I’m running in to some things I’m not real sure about. I would love to be able to talk to y’all about some of this stuff
The only thing that sounds better than a 8v71 all wound up is a 12v71 but as much as I like they way one sounds barking out a set of straight pipes I don’t think I would want to listen to that Jimmy screaming In my face for very long.
I got a 8v92 with a Garrett turbo, its got one of these ceramic ball bearing things in it as needle/roller bearings cannot turn the rpm's a ceramic ball bearing can.

Todd Gittins show me a cat or Cummins that will take the abuse that a Detroit will take???

Those front wheels are a much better match for it. It looks great.
Absolutely, the front tires changed its entire appearance.

Very good job you did on 5020 John Deere tractor
enjoy the channel and will be looking for you at Rantoul we are leaving thurday morning from Guthrie county IA l be watchin!!
Track me down and say hello! See ya there!
Very very impressive,well done.
I like that stainless steel polished box on the front of that 8V71T John Deere 5020. That 12V71 sounds awesome!
Thanks Clinton!
Top shelf guys as usual, some bad ass nasty noise makers

Nice work!
Thanks Dan!
Loved the 5020 with big tires
How to make a Detroit even more anxious straight pipe it 😅.
Right 😂
Safe travels and have a killer time!
Spectacular!!. Congratulations!!". '"John Deere"💪👍👏
That stainless is BadA$$👌👌👌
Stunning work from an ex JD service manager in the UK.
A tractor that looks that nice deserves matching rear rubber!🤣
That is one good looking tractor
Nothing like john deere green and a screaming Detroit diesel.
Kind of funny......goes with straight pipes to make the tractor louder then has to wear hearing protection because tractor is so loud.
That is so damn sweet great job
Thank you Edward!

Cool! Why did they put a smaller engine in it? Noisy, undercoter.
Absolutely beautiful

Need to get the V12 from forage harvester into a tractor!
I'm sorry to disagree but you said those pipes change diesel fuel into noise, but I sure you actually meant MUSIC!😁
That’s a better way to put it!
If you ever ran a Detroit, he was right the first time

Guess it just depends on who you ask
My lord you carried that hood like a baby
Just saw you guys at Rantoul today. Well, more like heard you.
I hope everybody brings there noise canceling head phones along to the show. If not they will be leaving saying “WHAT”!!!😳
I feel bad for how loud it’s about to get!
So is there any JD repower you guys are still searching for?
Not particularly, but if something good pops up we are sure to give it a look. We are hoping to repower one of Jake’s tractors this winter with another Detroit.
Nice tractor
I like John Dreere tractors 🚜
You need to find a 4620 with front wheel assist repower
The battery box did it
It really helped clean up that mess.

Dam that thing is b e a utee full!!!!!!
put in a 8 speed power shift from a 760a scraper
That is the plan eventually!
The right bank is smoking
That's the least of your worries.
Next do a 955 V8 swap!
Badass!
Thank ya!
Wow wow what a beast
To bad you couldn't hide them batteries on that 5020!
Dam nice ! 🤤
What a beast! I don't get the downvotes though. It is green.

Running the V12 gets overwhelming very quick. If you want to sun something all day, the 8V71T is much easier on your ears.
too small dauls we had them twice as wide
Never reav a diesel with turbo and shut her down let her idel for a minute or you’ll be replacing the turbo 50 years of experience with turbos
