You should have got an S9 as it is waterproof, has wireless charging, has surround sound dual speakers and is much more powerful than the a71. For a cheaper price if you get the S9 preowned.

I have a iPhone 11 pro max and a Galaxy A71.. Have to say I love my A71 especially for the price.. It is a fantastic phone! Believe me I am a total phone snob and you would not be disappointed with the A71.

Haha, I had a note 4 before, with a thick case and screen protector it still looks like new, of course, I changed the battery once and installed a clean OS before giving it to my parents to use. :P
Really comes down to preference, I have the S20+ Ultra and it's awesome however I'm a Samsung guy so I love the fact they're putting out awesome phones across the board, awesome video.
The S20's have ultrasonic finger print scanners. The A71's have an optical finger print scanner. With this current pandemic,. S20 users can wear smooth rubber gloves to login and use their S20's. You can't wear anything with A71 finger print scanner. You just have to remember to setup your finger prints while wearing those rubber gloves for the S20's.
My biggest beef with the current Samsung A lineup is the fact they're all using Gorilla Glass 3 and have no water or dust resistance at all. Even my old A5 (2017) had Gorilla Glass 4 and IPS68 rating.
I always put my phone in a case so the build quality of the bezel etc really doesn't matter.. can't justify forking out for a S20 when the A71 is available
I just bought the a71 5g and so far I am highly impressed. As a power user who couldn't swollow giving up my headphone jack, I am also happy to have saved a lot of money while giving up so little. Samsung hit it out of the park with the A series. I have very few complaints.
But still who would want a cheap low quality feeling flimsy plastic back. Glass just feels allot more premium and your phone won't feel like cheap plastic. I have a A71 5G but I still think a glass back would have been allot better.

Guys, Don't buy this phone it has some Major motherboard issue. I purchased a brand new Samsung Galaxy A71 5g on 26/11/2020 and exactly after one week the touch is not working. I surrendered the phone in the service center for the Warranty claim. After several follow-ups, they have told me there is Liquid Damage inside the phone and it will not cover under Warranty. They asked me Half of the phone's price to fix this. Guys, there is no chance to go the water inside, I tried to make understand the service team this. They told me that no need to put the phone inside water even moisture in our hands can cause liquid damage. I wondered by listening to these kinds of madnes from a reputed companies technical team. Now I am sure that they are washing their hands and they will not give any kind of warranty on this device. So guys I request all of you to not buy this phone. I lost my money and I don't want the same thing happening to anyone else. Also, remember Samsung will not give a Warranty for its inside board even if your phone is under Warranty.
I shill have my Samsung Galaxy A71 5G since I got it in Aug 18 2020 and I still don't have this issue.. If your gonna buy this phone at least be careful with it and keep it away from harmful things that can damage the phone such as dust and water.

No they'll usually purchase the s20. It'll get more updates in the long term, stay at a usable performance level and not slow as early as a lower end model. You can pay 500$ and get a phone that'll last 2 years or pay 1000$ for a phone that'll last 5 years saving you money.
I think people have woken up to the fact they don't need to spend huge amounts of money on the latest flagship when something like the A71 does what they need. Plus when their livelihoods might not as be secure, it's a bit of a no brainer.
Good review but one major feature that was overlooked is the IP rating. The A71 has no IP rating whereas the S20 has a dust rating of 6 (highest level of protection), and the water resistance rating is 8 (water-resistant up to 5 feet for up to 30 minutes). This doesn't mean that the A71 will not survive a dust/water incident, but there is no guarantee. That's the one reason the makes the flagship phones still relevant but I still bought the A71 for myself.
Just my opinion: screen at 1440p: don't care its a tiny screen i save my money for a PC monitor wireless charging: don't care "super zoom": don't care Wasting money on the latest tech that will be obsolete before it's paid off: Idiots.
Go from an A series, to an S series phone, and you will probably not be able to put it down. Now going from an S series phone to an A series phone, and you will want to throw it at a wall.

The problem with midrange phones is that they don’t get OS updates and they usually get buggy and slow in time. I just hope that is not that case anymore

I just got rid of my 1000$ s10 plus I'm done with paying so much money ...just got the a71 at Verizon for 240 $ its been a couple of weeks and I love the a71 saved me 700$
I'm considering the same. Have the s20 that I upgraded from s7. Thinking of exchanging it for the a71 or possibly the s20 plus, which is currently on sale I think for $799. A71 is better price and can be paid off at once and put on Verizon's prepaid plan. Perhaps wait a year or so and see what the next A series is like or check into the lg v70 and the note 21.
I just got my A71 5G yesterday, I am 100% satisfied and I love it. Not bothered even it doesn't have wireless charging and it's not waterproof unlike my 7 yrs old S9. The overall performance is awesome and no problem at all. It's a wise purchase if you wanna save your money !
What about glastic on the back if the A71 vs Gorilla glass 6 on the S20 ultra? Also ip68 water and dust resistance on the S20 ultra? Surely you should mention these issues as they may impact materially on choice of phone?
I have the A71 and it has the NFC and Ive used with google pay in a lot stores here in Puerto Rico. And the doble SIM card is the best part on the A71, when you dont wants to carry your Corp. Phone and your personal one. But also in the situation of lack of signal in one and then switch to the other sim in one second, thats priceless. To me, The most value diference on this models are the 6 to 12Gb RAM, The wireless charging and IP rated of the S20 but is not a $1k value worth IMO.
They are both good phones I bought the a71 because it's only for personal use and pairs nicely with my Samsung TV ultra is better but it's down to preference and use

I have both the S20 Ultra and the A71 5G, and I have to agree the A71 or the A71 5G is a much better buy than the S20 ultra. The Ultra has a slightly bigger screen and a faster CPU but the A71 5G come with a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Does the screen size only differ by height? Is the width the same between 6.2 and 6.7? I'd be interested in the A71 but I have small hands so I'm worried it won't be comfortable to hold it or I'll keep dropping it if it's wider than a 6.2 screen.
I love my a71 but I wanted to see how the flagships are these days and I got the s21 ultra 5g and I'm not gonna say that it's way better but it definitely feels, looks and is way more speedier than my a71. Hope to see you do a comparison of the new ones!
I have both and keep my sim in the A71, the ultra when recording is always hunting for focus and white balance is garbage too, kinda pissed I spent 1484 with tax
1 month into using the A71, I'm not going to stick with it for 2 main reasons: camera is not reliable, you either miss most of the shots, or have to take like minimum 3,4 shots to make sure you get something not blurred/ correctly focused, this is a huge let down ,and Samsung should be ashamed for their presentation web page which features photos taken on other devices. Number two is side button positioning, i cast my media to tv, bluetooth speakers, headphones constantly throughout the day, and , maybe it's only me, volume down it's easily missed , hiting the bixby/power button, the ergonomics are simply messed up, from my point of view.
At first, I really want to buy s20 because of its camera. But then, it is only available exynos chipset in my country. I think I should go for a71 which is cheaper and the most important it has snapdragon.
Both are fine phones and both have an intended market. What I do think this illustrates is that today, mid-range phones can give you the majority of features and functionality of the top of the line models. I currently have the A70, and yes, it has a few quirks...but it does everything that I want/need it to do. I think what viewers have to decide is this: "Am I happy with what a decent mid-range phone can do, or will I find myself feeling constrained by it's limitations?" I would not have spent $350 on a mid range phone if I then felt it did not meet my needs...

Great comparison. I have had the A71 for 15 months now after watching your brilliant detailed videos to learn all about the features. It's a great phone, I could afford an S20 but wouldn’t want to, next one will be a 5G A72. That $1,000 saving means you could have a nice new phone more often. If your A71 got stolen or broken and you had no insurance and had to replace it you'd still have spent $600 less than buying that one S20!
I had a a71 for 1 month. Major glitches and malfunctions. Had to reset the phone every 3 or 4 calls so I could hear the ear speaker again. Can't say much good about it
The S 20 Ultra is way~ better but way~~~ over priced. Only way to buy the S 20 Ultra is to get it for $600-$650 open box or used. I was going to by the top end A71 but found a Note 10+ for $619 used in Mint condition.

The problem with midrange phones is that they don’t get OS updates and they usually get buggy and slow in time. I just hope that is not that case anymore

I just got rid of my 1000$ s10 plus I'm done with paying so much money ...just got the a71 at Verizon for 240 $ its been a couple of weeks and I love the a71 saved me 700$
I'm considering the same. Have the s20 that I upgraded from s7. Thinking of exchanging it for the a71 or possibly the s20 plus, which is currently on sale I think for $799. A71 is better price and can be paid off at once and put on Verizon's prepaid plan. Perhaps wait a year or so and see what the next A series is like or check into the lg v70 and the note 21.
I just got my A71 5G yesterday, I am 100% satisfied and I love it. Not bothered even it doesn't have wireless charging and it's not waterproof unlike my 7 yrs old S9. The overall performance is awesome and no problem at all. It's a wise purchase if you wanna save your money !

I have the A71 and it has the NFC and Ive used with google pay in a lot stores here in Puerto Rico. And the doble SIM card is the best part on the A71, when you dont wants to carry your Corp. Phone and your personal one. But also in the situation of lack of signal in one and then switch to the other sim in one second, thats priceless. To me, The most value diference on this models are the 6 to 12Gb RAM, The wireless charging and IP rated of the S20 but is not a $1k value worth IMO.
They are both good phones I bought the a71 because it's only for personal use and pairs nicely with my Samsung TV ultra is better but it's down to preference and use

I have both the S20 Ultra and the A71 5G, and I have to agree the A71 or the A71 5G is a much better buy than the S20 ultra.
The Ultra has a slightly bigger screen and a faster CPU but the A71 5G come with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Does the screen size only differ by height? Is the width the same between 6.2 and 6.7? I'd be interested in the A71 but I have small hands so I'm worried it won't be comfortable to hold it or I'll keep dropping it if it's wider than a 6.2 screen.

I love my a71 but I wanted to see how the flagships are these days and I got the s21 ultra 5g and I'm not gonna say that it's way better but it definitely feels, looks and is way more speedier than my a71. Hope to see you do a comparison of the new ones!
I have both and keep my sim in the A71, the ultra when recording is always hunting for focus and white balance is garbage too, kinda pissed I spent 1484 with tax

Glass is glass. Its still breaks easier than plastic. I never broke a $100 or less phone. Ive broke many $1000 plus phones.
1 month into using the A71, I'm not going to stick with it for 2 main reasons: camera is not reliable, you either miss most of the shots, or have to take like minimum 3,4 shots to make sure you get something not blurred/ correctly focused, this is a huge let down ,and Samsung should be ashamed for their presentation web page which features photos taken on other devices. Number two is side button positioning, i cast my media to tv, bluetooth speakers, headphones constantly throughout the day, and , maybe it's only me, volume down it's easily missed , hiting the bixby/power button, the ergonomics are simply messed up, from my point of view.
At first, I really want to buy s20 because of its camera. But then, it is only available exynos chipset in my country. I think I should go for a71 which is cheaper and the most important it has snapdragon.

Both are fine phones and both have an intended market. What I do think this illustrates is that today, mid-range phones can give you the majority of features and functionality of the top of the line models. I currently have the A70, and yes, it has a few quirks...but it does everything that I want/need it to do. I think what viewers have to decide is this: "Am I happy with what a decent mid-range phone can do, or will I find myself feeling constrained by it's limitations?" I would not have spent $350 on a mid range phone if I then felt it did not meet my needs...

Great comparison. I have had the A71 for 15 months now after watching your brilliant detailed videos to learn all about the features. It's a great phone, I could afford an S20 but wouldn’t want to, next one will be a 5G A72. That $1,000 saving means you could have a nice new phone more often. If your A71 got stolen or broken and you had no insurance and had to replace it you'd still have spent $600 less than buying that one S20!

I had a a71 for 1 month. Major glitches and malfunctions. Had to reset the phone every 3 or 4 calls so I could hear the ear speaker again. Can't say much good about it
