When I was a kid, the "cockpit" of a 1:72 fighter was a seat perched on two cross-bars. Or sometimes just the pilot perched on two crossbars. Also, given the tools I had to work with back then, it's hard not to see the air brush and other such stuff as "cheating". My 12 year old self shakes his envious fist at you; my adult self wonders if it's not time to gear-up and get back into the game.
Gear up my good sir! Old and new techniques compliment each other nicely in the modelling world. Cut up toothpicks and handbrushing still have their place!
Nice and clean, I love small scales, detail engines and heavy weathering. Advice...if a product, is not working in the way you like, don t send it to hell, remember the way it works and use it later in other type of effects, in vehicles, structures you know, sky is the limit for a modeler.
Thanks Oscar, but I gave Maskol several chances, it ruined 2 of my favourite brushes (I was told it would dissolve in water) and this was the last straw. Since then I've moved onto Mr.Hobby Masking Sol NEO, and it's amazing and wonderful, and as a bonus I can clean it from my brushes with water :D
Thanks again Calvin, I was actually surprised on how well that worked out. Minus the mishap with the Maskol :/ It was pretty cool to see them together, I was really curious to see how the folded wing would work out, and so that was a good enough excuse to purchase the Martlet :)
First model video I have watched i absolutely ages.. since I swapped shifts at work and no longer do nights, I have even less time for TH-cam, unfortunately.. :( Anyway, great video as always, I missed your narrating throughout the build but it was still easy to follow. Never knew Citadel did some kind of filler, will have a look out for it next time I go to a shop that sell Citadel stuff.. :) Great to see the full build in one video, and the end result is absolutely stunning.. :) It will take a while before I will do mine as I'm still building MiGs and once they are done I am doing TWO Me 410's for another Group or Buddy Build.. After that I plan to do a couple of Drakens. Thanks to the MiG builds I have already completed more models this year than during the last couple of years combined. :)
It's a very nice filler for smaller gaps, and it dries quite quickly. I've was able to sand it within 6 hours, instead of waiting a few days for the Tamiya putty to shrink. And not really any odor to this stuff as well. I'm going to be making an order for a few more of these, it turned out to be very helpful to my workshop :D
I love filling in windows with Krystal Klear, it's such cool stuff. I was worried that the space was too large and the glue wouldn't work, but as you saw it filled in perfectly. I'd like to do an airliner just to fill in all the windows :D
Love the use of electrical tape - seems to stick better than the expensive Tamiya flexible and also looks easier to curve. Pity about the Maskol; I wonder of Vallejo's version would be better. Great little build; thanks for sharing
I see no reason to use Maskol here, as it is quite expensive when compared to regular masking tape from home depot. Also there is no real restriction on how long you can keep item masked. Electric tape is a good one :D Soon Tamiya will make/brand even special modellers toilet paper and soap, so your stay at toilet will become real precise pleasure :D
Very nice. I'll try the electric tape on my next camo. I stopped using Maskol because of the smell. I've been very successful with the Gunze Sol mask. No smell and works well.
Two of the greatest inventions of humanity are model kits and mute buttons. It was that drone which ate at my nerves. Couldn't tell if my cat cared or not.
I liked the video, but I'd rather watch it with your comments. You could do it as Owen from Quick Kits does. He tapes the build and then adds comments over it. By the way, I've always masked my camouflage paints with Maskol and it's never happened to me. I use Humbrol paints though. I don't know, you might have allowed some time for the paint to cure before applying Maskol, or maybe it might be the wet weather. What's the weather like in Canada at this time of the year? Sorry, It's just a suggestion, you're a very talented modeler. I liked the idea of electrical tape, I'll use it in my next build. I loved the final result. Congrats!. Alex
That's what I'll be doing for the next build.... probably. I'm not too sure what went sour with the Maskol either. I've used it on Tamiya acrylics many times, with no troubles. Was probably something microscopic or oil beneath the paint? Glad you liked it, thanks for watching Alex :D
Presently watching this with me is a cat named Grumman. 😸 Very nice little model kit and nicely done. Does it have a pilot? Though I've been using Microscale decals and their various liquid products since the 1970s, their Micro Kristal Klear and I have yet to figure out how to play well together.
Painting acrylics over unprimed plastic-recipe for peeling under any circumstance. At least bare plastic need a good alcohol wash first. Better yet prime the bare plastic first. OR use enamels or lacquers. Nice job anyhow.
The green is similar to the same green used on the interior of many American P-47's. I found a picture of a Martlet with that same color and thought it would be an interesting color to use instead of Zinc Chromate.
STUNNING WORK! So accurate in detail that it almost seems like a 1/48th (or bigger) model. Excellent. Just one question: aren´t wing ailerons supposed to move in reverse- one up and the other down? ^^ I might be wrong, and also it might be my confusion after the foldable wings of the aircraft...
Thanks Alan, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's a bit of a shame if they just enlarged the kit to 48th scale they'd give a lot of companies a run for their money :) It's what the instructions called for, so I just followed em. I think it's something they do when they are folded.
Really? I'd have imagined they would have built that quite well, interesting. I had troubles the first time I built this as a Wildcat, but the tooling hasn't been cleaned, and was actually worse the second time around.
Wow! Great job! My only question is what was the purple stuff you were peeling off the wings? Was that the Humbrol Maskol stuff? Check out my P-51 Mustang I just completed. You always do great work and your channel keeps inspiring me to build. Next update video you do, I hope you can give me a shout out.
Very nice build, thanks for sharing. Sure takes up a lot less room with the wings folded! This is the first time I've seen you use Citadel Liquid Green Stuff as a filler. Do you find it superior to the solvent based fillers you've used in the past? Might have to try and find some. Keep up the great work!
I just got it a few months ago, I did use a bit of it on the G4M. I find it's really nice stuff, for smaller gaps. It does shrink a bit, but it took less to dry properly. I think thinner layers it only needed 6 hours, and for the gaps on these 6-12 hours. I'd high suggest grabbing a bottle and trying it out. Like I mentioned I use it for smaller gaps, I still use Tamiya putty for the larger ones.
I had a few fit issues with the fuselage. Instead of putty I filled it in with styrene shims. So because I made it wider I did have a tighter fit to deal with. For the most part the fit was pretty good.
Hi Rebelsatcloudnine how are you doing today ? I want to give you an update i posted a video of me building the Titanic model please check it out soon or next week.
+rebelcloudnine American aircraft destined for the FAA were given new names at first. The Wildcat became the Martlet (I have a 1/32nd scale model of that) and the Avenger became the Tarpon. Later acquisitions like the Hellcat and Corsair kept their original names.

Hey that technique for making the camouflage accurate is brilliant

@@rebelsatcloudnine Wow, thanks for sharing bro. Take care.
I could watch this for hours... gets me into a Zen-like mood. Very relaxing. By the way: hell of a job!
Brilliant idea with the electrical tape! Loved the image of the Wildcat & Martlet together.
Thanks again Calvin, I was actually surprised on how well that worked out. Minus the mishap with the Maskol :/ It was pretty cool to see them together, I was really curious to see how the folded wing would work out, and so that was a good enough excuse to purchase the Martlet :)

What a great video! Great tips, nice music, fantastic result! Subscribed 😊
Excellent job. Bought this kit after doing Operation Torch version by Airfix also. Impressed with kit.
Beautiful work!
That is one beautiful model. Well done.
Very beautiful! It was nice seeing you do the Micro Krystal Klear to fill in those bottom windows, too. I like the ambient music, too.
I love filling in windows with Krystal Klear, it's such cool stuff. I was worried that the space was too large and the glue wouldn't work, but as you saw it filled in perfectly. I'd like to do an airliner just to fill in all the windows :D
I like the clever way of using PVA glue as the Windows on the fuselage☺
Very nice! I like your use of electrical tape for camouflage patterns!
Thanks you it was a semi successful experiment, I'm glad I tried out :)
Love the use of electrical tape - seems to stick better than the expensive Tamiya flexible and also looks easier to curve. Pity about the Maskol; I wonder of Vallejo's version would be better. Great little build; thanks for sharing

Nice little aircraft Lovely job . Steve U.K.
Still one of my favorite builds on TH-cam 👍
And you are one of my favourite subscribers! Thanks for watching :)
Loved this video. It is the Koyaanisqatsi of the modelling world.
I think I quite like that description :D
Really crisp little build, looks dinky with the wings folded in,like the new video too.
Yeah, I thought it was weird how boxy it appeared after I got them glued in. I was expecting it, but then to actually see it was a weirder experience.
Nice done! Camouflage is brilliant! ;)
Very nice. I'll try the electric tape on my next camo. I stopped using Maskol because of the smell. I've been very successful with the Gunze Sol mask. No smell and works well.
Yeah, after this incident I'm looking in the Gunze brand as well. The smell with the Maskol is a huge downside as well.
Hate the bells. All else outstanding

Good video. The plane turned out great. With the wings folded, maybe do a aircraft carrier deck with some crew figures around it.?????
Bill
Looks Great!😍👍😍
That is an amazing martlet!!!!
Thanks Ethan
excellent work
That's brill work! xxx
Thank you very much :)
Great job, my friend!
Thanks for watching :D
Love it thanks for the lesson
Great job as always

Very good result, but I like it when people add oil paint to make it dirtier.
I like the music . Who is it and what are they playing?
Still find it so funny to see people buy humbrol stuff and still get surprised when it doesn't work 😂
Never had any problems with Humberol products. The problem was most likely his own making.
Thanks John.
Best way to mask is blu tack/tamiya tape for fill in!🤔
Jman👀
I wanted to try this experiment out.
Great video. Thanks!
Great work my friend :)
Thank you very much Da Costa :D
What kind of Tamiya XF were used for main camo? Acrylic? And why it looks glossy? Did you mix paint with gloss clear X-22?
Ey mang, when the old style gonna come back
Soon, soonish.
Chin Chin The Dark Lord I see you everywhere! Haha
lovely model ; one I would like as I already have the Tamiya in USN markings
Thanks Anthony, as much as I liked building the Wildcat, it was really fun to add some color to the Martlet :)
Great work man!!
Thanks Luis :)
wow nice job thanks for sharing
Thanks Juan.
Great video and thankyou for posting it. Where did you get the music and what’s it called please
Agreed! I’d love to find out more about the mesmerising music. Who composed it and what is it called? Thanks
beautiful
Thank you Andre :)

really love this!!
Interesting vid, and a nice job I thought, but why did you paint the interior in that shade of Green and not US Interior Green/ Zinc chromate green?
The green is similar to the same green used on the interior of many American P-47's. I found a picture of a Martlet with that same color and thought it would be an interesting color to use instead of Zinc Chromate.
@@rebelsatcloudnine Fair enough, thanks for replying!
excellent!!!! beautyful !!!!
Well done and it was a blast to watch! What kind of green putty did you use? It looks very easy to clean up and left a very good result!
It's Citadel- Liquid Green stuff, quite fantastic for smaller gaps, and yes as you observed finishes quite well.
STUNNING WORK! So accurate in detail that it almost seems like a 1/48th (or bigger) model. Excellent.

Love the way those wildcat kits come out. Not a fan of the landing gear on the tamiya version.
Really? I'd have imagined they would have built that quite well, interesting. I had troubles the first time I built this as a Wildcat, but the tooling hasn't been cleaned, and was actually worse the second time around.
Could have been a fluke but it was the first Tamiya kit that had fit issues in the cockpit and the landing gear had a strange set up
nice work
Thanks Paul :D
I am going to copy paste to my facebook page
Gonna build an aircraft carrier next?

IS that electrical tape he's using for the camo lines?

May I ask if you fashion the mirror or purchase it? I'm building the same kit right now.
Hi Scott, the mirror is from a etched fret I got from a Spitfire years ago. I can't remember which kit it was, sorry.
GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
beau montage avec une musique très aérienne
Moi
Thanks you very much :D
Sweet
great work on this one,did you find the fit around the top engine cowling abit tricky
I had a few fit issues with the fuselage. Instead of putty I filled it in with styrene shims. So because I made it wider I did have a tighter fit to deal with. For the most part the fit was pretty good.
R.I.P Maskol
It had it's chance
I have the same tongs
Subscribed.
Thank you :D
If u would have put the flat clear on first the liquid masking wouldn't have pulled the paint off
What is the masking tape your using?
I used Tamiya tape, and Frog painters tape Yellow. It's nearly identical to the Tamiya tape.
Me gustan los modelos sean como los vehículos reales:sucios, des gastados, no las maquetas tipo museo.
Hi Rebelsatcloudnine how are you doing today ? I want to give you an update i posted a video of me building the Titanic model please check it out soon or next week.
it just looks like an f4f or something
The Martlet was the British name for the F4F Wildcat.
rebelsatcloudnine Oh
Isn't that a f6f hellcat why did they call it the marlet
Randy Cheow that is the f4f-wildcat.
Yep that's a Wildcat. The Martlet has a few differences to the Wildcat, not too sure why they felt it needed a new name.
+rebelcloudnine American aircraft destined for the FAA were given new names at first. The Wildcat became the Martlet (I have a 1/32nd scale model of that) and the Avenger became the Tarpon. Later acquisitions like the Hellcat and Corsair kept their original names.
