- Drop Point Hunting Knife, made for a good friend in the Lake District / Australian Ringed Gidgee scales, 01 Tool Steel, Brass Liners, Red Micarta Liners, Brass Mosaic Pins, FULL Knife and Sheath build from start to finish, Hand made Custom Knives.
This channel mainly focuses on Hobby Knife Making and any projects we have around the House and Garden. I don't claim to be a professional Knife Smith and I don't and never have offered knives for sale. The way I do it is not necessarily the right way, It is simply a hobby Incorporating Wood working, Metal working and Leather working, recreating age old working tools as in a recreation of the 1950s British Army issue knife, Hunters Knives, skinning Knives, Fishing / Gutting Knives and Kitchen or Chefs Knives. The power tools and hand tools used in my videos may be used in a way that is not recommended and is in no way a tutorial of how to use tools of any kind, always be safe and wear the necessary safety equipment and use your tools in the way that the manufacturer recommends.

Very nice work. Beautiful leather work great knife work. I noted in someone else's comment that the rivets might rub against the knife. You mentioned that you covered the rivets with leather. How about if you put the rivets on the other way so that the heads are on the outside it would be no problem then. If you do a good job rounding the heads of the rivets and then flatten them it can look very nice as well. Just a thought
The leather patch was just a failsafe, to be honest the angle the knife went into the sheath it missed the rivets and the rivets were well recessed into the leather but better to be safe than sorry, didn't want to ruin hours of work on the blade, thanks for your comment and glad you liked it.

What angle did you grind your bevels at and is there a way of working out the angle needed? Great Video Knife looks amazing and the leatherwork was mesmerizing
The angle on this knife was a 20 degree bevel, you could use a low cost digital angle gauge, to give you an idea see this link :

Make sure your working off a flat surface on the belt sander then use the digital gauge to set you bevel jig at 20 degrees to the vertical belt, thanks for your comment.
Was that tallow that you put on the handle? That’s an great looking blade. The shinny blade with that handle look good. I don’t like shinny with a beautiful handle but yours works well.

GAN thank you for your kind reply.as it happens I have a big problem with my drilling.ive only got a hand corded drill mounted in a cheep press.firstly no matter how I try the bit walks all over the place I bought good cobalt bits they only cut in so far then won't go any deeper including the 2mm pilot.steel is stock flat ground 1080.Im thinking about a drill press of around the £100 mark,do you know if that will Handel drilling 3/16th-1/4 ? I don't want to pay out only to be back at square one.kind regards Michael.
No need to spend £100, this one (Link below) with HSS bits would do the job any 350 watt, 5 speed, use on a medium slower speed with an HSS cobalt drill bit, the problem with the way you are doing it now is more than likely it is drilling at too high a speed.:

Aren't the rivets you put in from the back going to scratch the blade, over time?
Good point but I didn't show in the video for whatever reason that I glued a piece of 2mm leather over the rivets but to be honest they were recessed well into the leather on the inside so wouldn't have been a problem. I have just finished another knife (Link below) where you will see the patch covering the rivets at 35:14, when you get time check out the latest knife & Sheath video:

Thanks for the reply. I wondered why you hadn't covered the rivets (editing makes sense. :) ). It looks like most of the retention comes from the throat of the sheath, so I also wondered if perhaps the sheath was just loose enough on the blade to make it a non-issue.
I've never done any leather working; all my sheaths are kydex.
@@OffRoadRN To be fair the sheaths are usually loose enough around that area for it not to be a problem, however better to be safe than sorry after all of the work that goes into the knife blade. If you look on the outside edge of the sheath there are rivets both top and bottom, the top rivet really tightens the grip on the knife handle, I will do this from sheath to sheath depending on the fit at the time. As you will be aware the knife and sheath making process can take up to 30 hours so when editing sacrifices have to made in order to get the video down to 15 mins. Merry Christmas my friend.👍

Which sharpening system are you using?
The system is the TS Prof system ordered from Russia, there are quite a few videos on you tube featuring this sharpener, I have had most sharpeners on the market over the years and this one is by far the best although a little costly. You can find it on this link: tsprof.com/
