FYI - there is an engine recall affecting Toyota Tundra and Lexus LX models. This Sequoia is not under a recall at this time. For this reason, there is no mention of a recall in this video.
After the initial recall and roughly 800-1000 documented cases can you comment on how many are failing daily? How many are sitting at Toyota and Lexus dealerships waiting for short blocks? I would think if this was widespread vehicles would be piling up waiting for repairs. Be interesting data to compile.
@@peterdanese3823 I think it would near impossible to find all the data. There are hundreds of dealerships and they aren’t required to keep records. Toyota corporate isn’t going to make that data public. I don’t have the man power myself to even begin such a project.
I agree with you about these large SUV's not having enough cargo room. Back when I used to travel for trap shooting a bit, I saw a guy with a Tahoe he had taken all the back seats out. He set it up to sleep in and hold a bunch of camping gear, fishing poles, and his guns. This was the perfect camping rig. I think if the one of the automakers would offer a bare bones full size 4x4 SUV with the 2nd and 3rd row seats as options, a flat cargo area, and power onboard, it would sell like crazy. SUV's are so much easier than pickups to lock up, heat, cool, etc for camping and traveling.
Great idea and such a good production plan as a big percentage of buyers would go for this and they could have a lower price point. I like ventilated/heated seats but those plush second and third row seats hardly ever get used in my Tahoe
Loose that stupid battery which is the problem with the 3rd row issue. It’s not like the hybrid version is giving you 30mpg or anything close to justify that it can’t carry decent 3rd row passengers or cargo
I had a 2023 Sequoia Platinum and traded it in last month for a 2024 4Runner. The Sequoia was a great vehicle, but don’t want any part of an engine recall or failure. I will wait until the end of 2025 and all the issues have been sorted.
The seat issue is funny to me because they LITERALLY prefaced how they studied the seat in the million mile tundra, fucked up the seat in this generation 🤦♂️
Just because they studied the seat doesn’t mean they took any action items. Alternately, they might have studied the seat and realized they could cost reduce the new seat. I have a 2020 Corolla and the seat leaves a lot to be desired.
The biggest con is the price. You'd need to make over $600,000 if you followed the 10% rule to afford it. I doubt it will make one feel that special. But, even at a $125,000 income, these are very difficult to afford. All the tech and all the this and that, but no progress on affordability.
I don’t think that’s really feasible. By your example of making 125k per year, you’d only ever be able to afford a cheap used car at $12,500 and we all know you’re not driving a sub $10k vehicle, let alone 2 if you have a 2nd vehicle in the family.
Here I thought the “10% rule” was trying to keep your monthly vehicle expenses: payment, insurance, fuel, and maintenance to no more than 10% of your gross income. The Sequoia is doable on this metric but you will need 30% down or more, and an annual gross income of $150,000 or more on a 72 month loan.
@@brendanreary9142 I've seen it described both ways in various sources. In my example, I used the total method. As you can see, it means you'll likely never get a new vehicle. So, I would say that monthly method is the one that is meant and writer(s) of some of the articles I've seen made the same mistake?
$83k yes is very expensive. A friend of mine just bought a Tahoe. Not sure the trim but Loaded, leather, sunroof and diesel it was pushing a $100k. So they’re all pretty much crazy expensive
I wish Toyota will make another sequoia without the hybrid. The battery’s ruin the cargo space which I feel like defeats the purpose of a big suv. Shame because it looks great
Look it up. Very few vehicles that say leather have genuine leather. Most are plasticized and have been for quite some time. Not like Bentley where you can go pick the cow you want your seats made from.
Love the looks of it but that third row seat design is what my 2008 Chevy tahoe had - awful. Even my 2017 Tahoe with a full frame and live rear axle folds into the floor. Toyota needs to do better there.
They whiffed big time with the 3rd row and cargo area. Almost makes them non competitive with Tahoe/Expedition/Wagoneer. Not to mention there is no extended length version.
'02 Sequoia owner here, and I have no interest in the new truck. It looks better and has some good gadgets, but I feel my 20 year old rig is still superior in many ways over the new one.
I want to love it - but that entire cargo situation is a mess. Then the idea of buying a Platinum (or any version) without LEATHER seats is crazy. Not going to pay top dollar for a vehicle and ride on my granddad's K-car pleather seats. Wake up Toyota!
Haters either haven’t driven one or can’t afford it and by afford it I mean pay it off not rent it like majority of Americans who claim to own shit but are giving payments. I got mine cash 💰 no payments. Second ride is a Silverado. This ride puts my Silverado to shame. Love smoking fords and dodges with this also.
Even TRD Jon couldn’t stomach this mess 😅 All this nonsense is coming about due to the shared platform It is an excuse for design shortcuts The plus side of this is it should be possible to do massive improvements with a refresh No much consolation if one dumped a load on this pile Toyota got away for years with keeping old designs and doing very little to them People would make excuses that this was for reliability No Toyota is notoriously penny pinching and they were doing just that Now they are forced to bring out new designs the penny pinching remains But this time at a cost in basic quality
Sequoia TRD pro Hybrid engines have Zero recalls!!!!! I have this car the Terra orange TRD pro and those crying about the cargo are stupid!!! The shelve system easily holds its weight and flattens out your storage sooooooooo STFU!!!! It’s a gorgeous and amazing ride for those with a family of 2 and the third row of course is not for adults …. SMH 🤦♂️ yall people are idiots. Just cause it costs 80k yall want it to be a Escalade and jaguar at the same time!?!?! It’s a sport ride not a family car or shit so get over it if you do use it as a family ride. This why used lexus rx bring top dollar used even 2o years old
Right because these are only offered with the Hybrid option as opposed to the Tundra which allows for non-hybrid optioning on the V35A
@@Pickuptrucktalk I believe that the recall will be expanded to include the hybrid engines.

$83,000 is bonkers lol
That's why you see 20 year old Tahoes selling for $30k-$40k all the time.

Boss man Toyota said they make seat last million mile
Waste his money as seat should only last 100k mile
Make seat cheaper and maximize profit

*excellent update and great interior... some of the interior complaints seem to be trim-specific... seems like the higher trims have proper interiors*
I bet there will be a recall for the engine since it's a Tundra engine.
Nice the grill looks a lot better then the tundra

Glad I bought my $52k 2024 Limited AWD 7-passenger 4Runner over this. 20.5 mpg on long trips, proven reliability.
It’s leather on the Platinum and the Capstone. softex on the SR5, Limited and TRD Pro

I love it, but the cost and the new turbo engine, I'll keep my 4runner!
Not recalled yet 😂
I don't know why you can't have a fuel efficient hybrid mode, along with a different power mode. Like the difference between normal and sport mode.
Essentially same platform as tundra… we all know the cons of that

The rear seat is just not acceptable. Too small and terrible cargo space. Toyota phoned this one in.
Can’t fit a 5’6” person in the third row 😮. This thing is a joke, people buy full size SUV’s to haul people and stuff.
