I don't know why I never thought about adding weights inside prop guns. Makes all the difference! I'll be using this (or a version) of this on my next prop gun! Looks awesome, and you could never tell it was a cheapo to start.
@@BPCustomCreationsthere's a nerf gun that's pretty similar to this but thing is it's name brand so it will be better, also it looks bigger so that's got it going for it, but it's the one where you pull the handle under the grip to prime it so maybe that's bad, it's the nerf mega bigshock.
That looks amazing. I took one of those cheap Star Wars blasters you can get these days - the all white ones - and sprayed it with primer and then sprayed it black and used a silver and bronze sharpie to add paint rubbing effects. It was my first prop, but I think it looks pretty cool.
Stubby remind me of the Star Trek universe, whereas the longer makes me think any other fantasy/sci-fi universe (marvel, star wars, alien, etc...). I love it! Incredible work.
Pretty cool build. My son has customised toy guns before using spray paints and war hammer model paint- very effective using the silver paint to make bash marks, wear and tear.
GotG? How about something out of Star Wars, or Babylon 5? In fact, with the “long” barrel, it looks more like the plasma gun from B5, just with a shorter grip - I think.
Thank you! I debated screen recording the modelling but it tends to be dull compared with physically doing things on camera. It's a lot of measuring and entering in the measurements. I like trying to figure out what measurements are necessary though. Maybe I'll do a bit on that in a future video where I'm printing add on parts again
@@BPCustomCreations For starters, maybe those coin cell battery holders (not sure if the 100 yen store carries those, but they're in that price range), with a trigger switch soldered in? If you made something like the top of your gun removable with magnets, you' wouldn't even need to make that many changes (like a battery compartment door). Quickest start is to cannibalize those $1 kits that already come with a coin cell holder, a battery and a string of LEDs (can be easily tinted with colored sharpies or translucent model kit paints). All that's needed is to solder out the excess LEDs you don't need (for future use, since you can buy those coin cell holders separately), wire in a trigger button between the battery and the first LED and clean up the whole mess to put it inside your prop.
@@whitewolf3051Laser tag guns use more electronics, since some models can tag their light to filter out friendly fire in matches with several teams. Knockoff nerf guns are great for customs! I made a buzz bee toys sniper rifle into a neat steampunk rifle! I’d like to revamp it, because all those years ago when I made it, I didn’t understand basic things like using primer or adding greeblies, I imagine I could make something quite cool out of it with the things I know about customization today
Looks great! Consider this. Instead of using a brush to add your silver worn edges, try this old technique I learned from an ILM artist years ago. Use a dry wooden popsicle stick with a thin layer of paint on it. Basically it's a dry brush technique with wood. Rub and scrape the stick along the edges of the model and it'll give you a much more accurate, realistic application of the silver with hard edges, as it reproduces how edges are actually worn by contact with by other hard surfaces. The uneven wood also adds randomness, streaks and texture. And this application technique won't let the paint go too far beyond areas of edge contact that wouldn't actually be made in reality. Try it in multiple passes with varying shades of silver and primer to simulate worn layers. Don't forget to add some real dents and scratches, because this gun has been dropped, slammed and used a lot in space battles! I can't wait to see what you create next.
Looks fantastic! Love the more compact look, a lot of foam blasters are really blocky and hard to make proportional. I'm a little bit more partial to the stubby barrel, but the long barrel is great.
I really like it. Another way to do the chipping (I think I saw on punnished props or Adan Savage) is you do wax on the first layer, paint over it and then remove the wax exposing the under side.
Thanks! I have some chipping fluid that works really well for this but I did it a different way this time. I don't think things through from the start so it ends up different all the time 😂 I did the masking fuild on my sci fi horror diorama video from a while back
Looks fantastic! I love the scribed details. That little hobby saw came in handy. It's an awesome final product, you should definitely make more props.
This was a really cool process! I finally got my hands on one of the old plastic model guns that fire bb pellets that I plan to modify into a believable prop so every time I see a cool transformation like this makes me think of that project and know that I too can do it
Great transformation! I've made a few guns/weapons and I'm currently working on a minigun, so I'll be using several of your techniques Thanks for the advice!

Wonderful build! Dollar store toys in Japan have a bit more color options than here in the US it seems. Doesn't matter once you paint it, though! I loved the use of cat scratch box inserts for your airbrush booth. I use florists' foam still in the plastic, but yours seems more environmentally friendly! The use of the popper for a palette is awesome, I really enjoy how that's gotten around to all the makers I watch. I have one, but it's yellow. I don't know if that would affect my color consistency, now that I think about it, but I'm not that great with color anyway so it probably doesn't make a big difference. Thanks for the video!

I’ve always loved this concept of improving store bought blasters. I do have questions though. How do you manage to just look at something in the store like this though and know how you could turn it into something so beautiful? What sanding grits do you use on plastic like this? Why not keep the actual shooting functionality? How do you protect your paint? Clear coat?
Thanks for taking interest 👍 I like to find things with shapes that look interesting to paint and weather. I didn't habe any plan in mind when starting this project, ai just let it unfold as I went. Having a bunch of different materials on hand allows you to make things up as you go. The sandpaper is 240 followed by 400, and also 600 in some places. The way I changed the shape didn't allow me to keep it shooting which I don't personally care about anyway. It's not clear coated since I don't plan to handle it much or with dirty/sweaty hands or anything but you could spray a matte varnish over the whole thing.
Yeah I've seen him and the Crafsman both mention that but I had no lighters or fire on hand. I tried a heat gun and accidentally warped a part so just changed to sanding instead.
