Finally! Intelligent, respectful, mature questions and equally intelligent, respectful, mature answers. I completely enjoyed it. Great job by all three!
it was my first interview with the cast and now I'm honetstly scared to watch others :D as this set the standard for what a good interview shoud be, apparently.
@@myownsister9033 Yes. Later interviews generally ask the same boring questions over and over. And Tobias Menzies, who is a brilliant actor, is frequently ignored by the interviewers. It's horrible.
I am always so blown away by Tobias's self effacing demeanor as an incredible actor he is always so gracious, generous and patient. No ego even though he could easily be insufferable ,aloof and glib. He is class and grace personified. Sam, is easy and gracious as well as talented and intelligent. Finally, an interview worthy of their talent.
Wow, I believe I just witnessed the best interview ever.. And the first interview where intellectual and meaningful questions were asked, answered and even discussed (and no one left out or overshadowed). Incredible. Props to all three gentlemen.
I agree this was a very good interview. I didn't cringe once in embarrassment over the questions that the poor actors had to answer. As someone rightly said, so glad to see that Tobias wasnt overlooked when the questions were being asked. Kudos to the interviewer Christopher John Farley and both Sam and Tobias.
I won't compared them ,they are totally different actors, obviously Tobias has more experience but Sam is an amazing "Jamie" in the series. just my opinion. :)
For a change,an intelligent interview with Sam & Tobias. The actors were able to answer properly without members of the audience yelling out and silly questions being spewed out. Good for you CJF.
Tobias Menzies has a very likable presence. Truly bumps his credit as an actor. That absolutely pleasant person can play such a loathsome character like Jack Randall. To be completely honest, Jack Randall's character is one of my favorite to watch in the show. There's just something really intriguing about him.
snakegirl46-It really shows talent when you can convince people you are absolutely opposite on t.v. from what you are in real life. Sort of reminds me of the character Edith on All in the Family. She has to be a pretty good actress to convince the world that she's that big of a space cadet!
Rebecca Hopkins - I agree. It really shows a person who has dealt with that kind of personality just how far they have come with healing from their experience by watching those types of scenes.
I rarely comment on videos but throughout this video thought the interviewer did an outstanding job. So often in these interviews I'm wondering how in the world the people interviewing got the job! Not this time. Mr. Farley is an articulate speaker and asked more than 'the same old same old' rehashed questions. Bravo!
This is an excellent interview. The important key is that the interviewer was very knowledgeable and prepared. So his questions elicited knowledgeable answers. And it shows that the production is very mindful of the historical perspective. And that the production steps up to the responsibility of portraying a period of history. Sam and Tobias both bring their best acting skills to the show, and an intelligent understanding of the message of the story.
This is probably the best interview I've seen about the show and how the actors feel about it. As adorable as Sam and Tobias are, and as cute as they are when asked questions that make them blush; I really enjoyed their answers and feelings about current events affecting Scotland today, and how they feel about how society and relationships were in the 18th century. WOW! What a great interview! Was nice to see an interview without a lot of flirting and flattery.
I've liked both the series and the book so far. I must say I'm fascinated with Tobias Mezies and the work he does. I don't think he has been properly appreciated as an actor until now. He has actually made a character like Black Jack look interesting, and even fascinating sometimes. That's huge. He's always clever and kind in interviews. On top of that, he has a wonderful voice. I would love to watch more of him on TV and cinema.
So nice to see intelligent questions asked and intelligent answers given. The questions were those an actual reporter would ask, rather than the "Hollywood" reporters that just ask cookie cutter questions designed to get a reaction. Bravo! Is it too much to hope for more interviews like this one?
Always a hint to an awesome actor like Tobias Menzias obviously is when you fiercly hate the character he is playing but forget all about it when seeing him talk and act in real life. Wow.
Looks like they're wearing the same shirt. I'm really impressed by this interview. Very well done. I'm also happy that we actually get to hear what Tobias had to say. Such a great actor and he's often, in Outlander interviews, overlooked. These men are very intelligent with great answers. Really good interviewer.
Agree with everyone here. What I love about these books is that it has a lot of political and historical content allowing it to be an intellectual read as well as a romantic one. And it pisses me off seeing all the interviews focusing on the sex all the time. Especially when I want to know more about the historical background!
Fantastic interview, wonderful questions, thoughtful answers. Both Sam and Tobias a joy to watch. I started watching Outlander because I loved Jaime in the books but Tobias has my attention every time he is on screen. His voice, his looks, his talent, he seems to be a genuine nice guy, the man has it all.
Tobias is such a great actor. The fact that he made me hate his character to the point that I was shaking shows how good he is. I genuinely hated his character.🤣
Finally an interview that doesn't involve quilt questions. Interesting discussions! Oh and all the women are fangirling about Sam but Tobias is very equally charming. Obviously Jamie wins it over Frank but I can't say I wouldn't choose Tobias given the chance. Hah!
The spanking wasn't the most heinous thing done in the 1st season.. I believe the most heinous scene was on episode 16.. that episode made me very uncomfortable, very disturbing.
sbostic08 I would agree it’s not the MOST heinous thing but I think people have more of an issue with it because the “beating” is perpetrated by the hero on the heroine whom he is supposed to love.
One think to appreciate is that they are not trying to outdo each other in the interview..especially Sam H..he's the star of the show, but neither his attitude or his clothes or his words indicate that, he's just one of the cast, doesn't try to overshadow anyone.
lindah camacho go to a Reinnassance Faire and youll find out. Can't be any closer from the truth.. I found out by mistake when a highlander was having lunch, seating down..LOL
Excellent interview! The interviewer was prepared, professional and engaged with both actors equally. As a result, I think both Sam and Tobias felt at ease and confident in their own responses. All three gentlemen were well spoken and respectful too.
Mr'Pig oh come on, its only because its been a long time past from those days so the memory has faded away, try to put an israeli with a palestinian one or a russian with an Ukrainian and see what happens.
Tobias' response was so delicately worded. What a delight that man is, and I'm usually not a fan of the English! He truly stands apart. Best of luck to Scotland, hopefully they inspire NI!
Look Tobias' face expression at 8:49. Without wanting to, he became the bad Randall for an instant of 2 seconds😂 But anyway this is the amazing thing about great actors: In the film Jamie was feeling fear and horrible emotions anyway near the ferocious, sadistic, psychopath Randall, and a highly tension of hate, terror, darkness and danger was in the atmosphere. And here in real life you see Sam and Tobias sitting next to each other at the interview table, relaxed and joking as friends while drinking a coffee! Amazing!
I think this now ranks as my favorite interview. What a relief to not hear embarrassing "what's under the kilt" or "how do you like doing nude scenes?" questions.
I'm a great fan of Gabaldon's book series and I think the show is well done. Sam was a great pick as Jamie. The cast and production are outstanding. The cinematography, set direction and costuming is spot on. Thanks for the treat of catching this handsome actor in a charming interview.
Liana Mori Its turning into Ronlander. Its also supposed to about Jamie and Claire..a married couple...the last episode us what seals them as soulmates...much of this was lost in the show. BJR is a one dementional character ..a monster meant to drive the story forward....he is a writers tool. that's all
I've disovered "Outlander" very recently and I've fallen in love with it and with the cast. This is by far the best interview, thanks to the journalist!
Brilliantly conducted interview with legitimately interesting questions, and, yes, thankfully none of of the stupid "what do you wear under those kilt" type questions. Love me some Sam, but Tobias is mesmerizing. That voice...whew heavens me. I would gladly listen to him read the phone book from cover to cover.
Wow, they are both incredible, intelligent and so eloquent, its great to seem them outside of their characters and as individuals. Great interview, thank you.
Watched several interviews with the main cast. But they were all the same predictable questions and answers, so I'm very glad I found this interview. It was intelligent and profound.
What a wonderful interview! There was so much more depth and insight than there usually is on Outlander interviews. I'm still a fangirl, but I thoroughly enjoyed this.
It's really a great interview. It shows that actors have a voice. I wonder how interesting would be doing this interview after the events of the last episode and the new one tonight. I hope WSJ would bring them back to another WSJ Café and discuss those scenes.
I love when the interviewer says he prefers the 21st century and having the vote and wouldn't really be interested in travelling back in time! Truth! As a person of colour, I enjoy these kinds of stories as escapism, but to actually contemplate going back to a time when people who looked like me were usually enslaved...yeah, no thanks :-P
I don't think going back in time would be so great either. People forget how hard times were then and almost nothing was automated. About everything had to be done by hand. I might want to try it during a certain period for a day, but just to see what it felt like then come back.
I think almost no one from 21st century would like to go back si far in time. Like, no indoor plumbing, electricity or anibiotics. Smallpox still exists. Any childbirth can be lethal. And if you are born poor... well, too bad. Just goes to show how committed Claire was and how deep her love was for Jamie that he actually made her go back to her own time before the Culloden. She was willing to bear anything and risk everything for him.
@@aumelb Heh heh have you read the books or seen Season 3? ***SPOILER*** She goes back again, after he sends her back to the 20th century. That just boggles my mind. I mean, the first time was an accident and it took her a few years to be able to get back to the stones and return. But when she goes back to the 18th century a second time, she knows full well what she's getting into. I'm not sure any person is worth putting my life in danger for (yes, Claire is a doctor and has certain protections against diseases, but Jamie's life was always very dangerous. And sure enough, it continues thus after she goes back).
Love this interview! I'm from Spain and I can say this is a remarkable discussion for and against Scotland independency. Nothing to do with Cataluña mess. I admire you both guys!
I, personally, find it an outrage that this series was deliberately kept from showing in the UK b/c of the referendum. Some of the no voters might have gotten a lesson in reality and would have re-thought their decision. But we aren't finished with this.
The Jacobite rebellion was not Scotland VS England. It was more like a British civil war. The majority in Scotland and England were not Jacobite's, they in fact celebrated the removal of the Stuarts, because the majority of Scots and English people sectarian bigots. It should have no bearing on any modern day vote, and this is coming from an SNP voting, yes voting Scot.
Secretarian Jason i do not think , Quite simply after the reformation , the Scots sure were not going to have Bonnie Prince Charlie tell them how to pray .
Loved this interview. I like how the interviewer asked the Scottish independence question. Their answers as a Scott and an English man was very interesting. As an American with Scottish roots, I can not understand why Scotland wouldn’t want their independence. They are strong and capable to stand on their own. Thank you WSJ for a great interview.
I am happy after watching this interview because I finally can ser they answering questiona properly, thinking without all the fangirling and also having the opportunity tô debate about politics. Nice one!
"Outlander" is TV to be enjoyed-and continued. Keeping your programs of this outstanding quality coming our way, will bring rise to our admiration of your courage to bring awesome stories lines out for us to enjoy. Thank you and do please continue with programs using all the talented people.
I have to said exactly other comment here: ""One of the best interviews I've seen. The questions were very provocative and intelligent. Both SH and TM gave great detailed responses."""both are so sexy, intelligent and handsome. And the host!! well done well done! you create the interview so great job.
Thank you Mr. Farley for a decent interview, finally. Well thought questions, actors engaged in giving their opinions and very well conducted. Great job!
What an interview. The questions were so intelligent and prompted very intelligent answers from both Sam and Tobias. They are not just some pretty boys but smart pretty boys indeed. Their voices are so soothing. Great interviewer. Great job.
Menzies is a very talented actor his ability to make you love and hate basically the same person is marvelous.
I was about to make this same comment. He's an amazing actor.
I hated both of his characters. Maybe it's just me, but the deep vertical wrinkles on his cheeks makes him look abhorrent.
he definitely is!
He's a very good actor..i just love to hate him. He brings his character life in a extremely beastly world in which he represents. Profound times!
I agree. In fact, I think he is the most talented actor in the cast.
Finally! Intelligent, respectful, mature questions and equally intelligent, respectful, mature answers. I completely enjoyed it. Great job by all three!
deansdj It' so weird watching Tobias and Sam being interviewed side by side after seeing the last two episodes. Props to them for shocking me.

YES! I completely agree. I loved all that about this interview 😊
Tobias voice is amazing...
his acting is superb in the series, he plays a gay psycho English guard commander.
Absolutely! He should narrate everything
Laura Lyster ahhhh u are so much right aaahhh a man's voice!
He has one of the hottest voices I ever had the pleasure to hear
GamerDares wins not gay. Bi

Kudos to the interviewer Christopher John Farley and both Sam and Tobias.
Sam is hot, but Tobias is just magnetic, wowza
He’s darker, deeper, older, more brooding. And I’m guessing more intelligent. Yes Sam is hot, but Tobias is sexyyyyy. 👍

I could listen to Jamie and Tobias for all eternity, their voice tone, their accents, and how smart they are. Love them both ❤️
Luisa, I agree but was a bit disappointed that Sam's voice didn't have the thick Scottish accent he has in the show. I adore Scottish accents!

Probably because those two answered every question properly. Half the interviews nowadays are stupid everyone thinks they're too cool
I agree! What an intelligent interview conducted by a real journalist with real questions that the actors are glad to answer!
As Gary Oldman, Tim Roth and Tom Hardy before him, Tobias Menzies nailed the bad guy job. These are the roles that make a career go.
Ten et demi oh yes! those names though
dont put Gary & Tobias in one sentence....too much for me
Pesky Blinders was awesome binge watch series. Loved it. But it actually took me 2 times to watch it. You have to give it a go.

I couldn’t image being an adult interviewer asking those bed sheet questions to another adult. This was an awesome interview.
This is how an interview should be done, good job WSJ.
Great interview Tobias actually answered some questions fully. Wow.
Claire, dont be a fool: stay with them both!
Lol I agree!
If you read the books, you would know-she did.
She did, really.

The casting for jamie, frank, and claire is just perfect
Sure is, this interview is one of the best ones too with intelligent and interviewer did his research. And finally no kilt questions. Thanks so much.
Sir John Grey too.
Well done interview👍 for once, noone asked "what's under the kilt" Sam must be bored from hearing the same stupid question over and over again😒
lindah camacho go to a Reinnassance Faire and youll find out. Can't be any closer from the truth.. I found out by mistake when a highlander was having lunch, seating down..LOL
@MELA it must be so difficult for actors, with followers unable to differentiate between them and the characters they play
Agree ... stupid kilt questions. The interviewer did a great job,
Excellent interview! The interviewer was prepared, professional and engaged with both actors equally. As a result, I think both Sam and Tobias felt at ease and confident in their own responses. All three gentlemen were well spoken and respectful too.
I do really appreciate Tobias! Gosh his voice!
Kharyl Gray i thought i am the only one who noticed this man man voice
One of the best interviews! I loved the fact that the interviewer brought up the referendum, even if briefly.
That's democracy, a Scottish in favour of independence discussing peacefully with a Brit against it.
Mr'Pig oh come on, its only because its been a long time past from those days so the memory has faded away, try to put an israeli with a palestinian one or a russian with an Ukrainian and see what happens.
Both of these men are Brits ( without Scotland there is no Bittian) the one you call a Brit is English (saccanach)
The is a Scot (alabanach)
Tobias' response was so delicately worded. What a delight that man is, and I'm usually not a fan of the English! He truly stands apart. Best of luck to Scotland, hopefully they inspire NI!
Sam is half English.
And Frank Randall . Tobias Menzies. Just incredible
Luv you Tobias. I actually love your role as Frank Randall..loving, caring, gentle.
Look Tobias' face expression at 8:49. Without wanting to, he became the bad Randall for an instant of 2 seconds😂

leave it WSJ to ask good serious and sometimes political questions. it adds another dimension to two already intelligent and talented actors.
