- Here is some example footage recorded using a GoPro Hero 9 in combination with Backscatters MacroMate Mini +15, a macro wet lens that can be attached to your GoPro setup very easily and will make your GoPro much more versatile when filming underwater.

Have you ever tried Backscatter's MacroMate Mini with your GoPro? If so, how did you like it?
I have not used any macro lenses on my go pro yet, but I’m looking for one. How would this lens perform outside of the water? I’d like to get a macro lens to capture plants and insects with my go pro. Can I use this this lens outside of the water? If so, what would footage with it out of the water look like?

I’ve recently got the macromate mini and the +10 lens…love them! Can’t believe the footage and photos I’ve been able to get with my GoPro since having them.

Very informative video. I'm waiting on the delivery of the MacroMate as well. Just curious though, any idea as to the minimum focus distance between the subject and camera for the best quality shots?

What is the furthest distance I can be from object to have clear picture? If the gopro itself is 1ft and its clear does the gopro with lens have to be half feet or closer or further from the object? Just wondering whats the range of distance I can use or is there just one distance where it is clear? Thank you!
You need to be fairly close to your object when using the MacroMate. Probably 3-5 inches.

Lens for my gopro 10, and i am amazed with its performance on land. Cant wait to take it underwater. I have one question for you? What setup do you prefer, just macro mate +15 or +15 and +10 (+25). I shoot some sample footages on land and to me it seems better +25. But you need to get much more closer to the subject compared to using just +15
Yes, I also prefer the combination of the Macro Mate AND the +10 diopter lens. I think it will give you better results, but as you say, will only work if you can get really close.

Excellent video.I recently bought Gopro Black Hero 11,.and im considering to purchase a macro rig.
i would like to ask you couple of questions
1. Since everywhere Backscatter Flip 10 macro rig is advertised as underwater rig and im normally shooting only on land,. does this work perfectly on land too?
2.Can this rig be installed and used on Gopro media mode,since i prefer using Gopro media mode all the time.

This is actually a specific lens that was designed to be used underwater. It works on lad as well, but you would need an underwater housing to attach it to your GoPro, so I think it will not work in combination with the Media Mod. But I haven't tried this myself.
Good video! Right now I use the Macromate mini on a GoPro Hero 7 and the focus distance is about three inches. When you stack the two macro lenses, does the focus distance change or remain the same? Thanks!
It does change a little bit.
Interesting - what fov do you use? I've had once since the GoPro4, where I got really nice results in the medium fov. Since the GoPro 5 changed the fov system, never managed to use it properly. I'm on a 7 and get really blurry edges in linear mode.
One solution would be to zoom in, but you lose the zoom setting as soon as the camera's off, and can't reset it UW since it's touch screen only. I pretty much gave it on it and would love to know what you were using on the 9.

You need to use the narrow mode on the current GoPro models. Any other mode will either cause blurry edges or the frame of the macro mate will be visible. These lenses are made to work with the narrow mode only.
@@MatthiasLebo Unfortunately the GoPro7 doesn't have a narrow mode, hence, the issue... Ah well, maybe I'll upgrade to a 10/11/12 someday
Hallo Matthias. Danke für das Super Video und Erklärung👌🏻 überlege mir für meine Hero11 das präsentierte Equipment anzuschaffen. Verstehe jedoch nicht ganz, was die zusätzliche "Close up lens +10" bringt? Genügt die MacroMate Mini+15 nicht?

Doch klar, die MacroMate ist ausreichend. die zusätzliche +10 Makro Linse gibt einfach nochmals eine zusätzliche Vergrösserung des Bildausschnitts, sprich dein gefilmtes Objekt wird nochmals ein bisschen grösser. 😉

It was good to see some footage besides their own marketing film. I was really scratching my head trying to figure out if it was worth an extra $100 for 5x more than the included 10x diopter. Can you flip the color filter down AND the diopter?
No not with this system. But honestly speaking if you're using the diopter, you shouldn't need the red filter, because in such a case you really should be using some video lights.
@@MatthiasLebo thanks. Did you find any difference in image quality stacking the 10x and 15x opposite (ie 10x closer to the GoPro)?
I haven't actually tried that. I've always had the x15 attached to the flip filter system and then the x10 on top of it. But good question. I'll give it a try when I have a chance next time.

I bought (and love) my Osmo Action after watching your videos... But I'm finding it near impossible to find a wet macro lens for it. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Glad you like the Osmo Action. Still one of my favorite action cams. But I don’t think there is a Macro wet lens specifically designed for the Osmo Action. I can imagine the demand for it is just not big enough. 🤷🏻♂️
hey man. My solution is find a third party case, and you will find the action 1 lens is way smaller than the go pro 8 (go pro is about 48mm by 48mm) you can find some kind of plastic clay called form card. When you drop the plastic in the hot water , it will soft like clay and stick to the case. When it cold down, it really stiff. You might want to play with to line up the perfect center of lens and glasses. Be careful with the switch when you put clay on it. I hope it will helpful. The only downside is third party case isnt that durable. It seems only failed when you forced to close it. No problem during the diving
Thanks for showing this. Is it possible to have the colored filter flipped into place when using the macromate lens as well?
Backscatter sells separate 55mm filters to attach to the +15 & +10 lenses. I actually like using the 55mm colored filters better than the flip ones.

No, you can’t use the flip color filter with the macromate. But there are other options as Allura mentioned. Personally I wouldn’t use a red filter when using the macromate mini. You’re much better off using a uw video light to bring the colors back in your macro shots.

hello, having problem with my gopro hero 12 + macromate mini +15 and 10. the shot is causing glare to my shots i can see the square frame of the case while recording. have you encountered same problem?
You would have to use the narrow field of view setting, but that’s not available on the GoPro 12 as far as I know. I don’t think you have another option than cropping in in post to get rid of the frame. No idea why GoPro removed that field of view setting. 🤷🏻♂️
How does the image look outside of water?
How do you mean that question? The lens is optimized to be used in water, not on land. I’ve never used it on land.
Can you screw on the extra lens while under water?
