As a local of Arcot , to see someone coming so far to taste Makkan Beeda feels elated. It deserved much much recognition around the state. Arcot is a heritage site which badly needs government aid .
Thanks respected Govind chettiyar sir who understand the importance of convening people in required language.. Happy to hear his voice and Tamilu .. Arkot was the Historical trading route from East coast to West coast of South India.. Which generated more Wars in its History for Wealth and Hold strong hold position to Kings and Europeans Manjunath KS from Mysore Karnataka..
If a place is known for one dish, in this case makkan peda then that item has to be super tasty. Great stuff. Though the exterior is very much like gulab jamun, the ingredients are totally different. 👍🏽
Excellent sweet my childhood favourite It used to be packed in palmyra leaf boxes Rich with dry fruit stuffing...juicy n soft True .. ..vera level. 👍 Drooling... cannot wait to taste it soon
Thank you so much sir for sharing the history of the most famous sweet of Arcot - Makkan peda! 🙂 The food here is a part of the local culture and heritage. I've had the pleasure of eating here from years. Must try! Arcot biryani is another favorite that has a unique taste (again dated back to the time it was ruled by Nawab of Arcot).
Awesome Mr.Kripal Makkan peda is the specialty of Arcot & star briyani in arcot is very famous. Since my native is ranipet when ever I travel back to bangalore after my vacation used pick Makkan peda from arcot..
I visited this shop and makkhan beda is one of the best sweet. It's one of the best mittai and very delicious mittai. After seeing this video I'm getting mouth watering.
Amazing to see such a heritage product and to hear the owner explain it with such pride and enthusiasm. But I do wish they might paint and clean the kitchen a little more
Kripal wearing pink colour Shirt on shoot and look at how serendipity played its part, the school children walking on streets have the pink colour code even fellow pedestrians have worn the same colour. Great capture by the cinematographer!
Thank you for sharing this special episode and heart warming to know the legacy being carried forward for 2 centuries. Origin of the Makkan Peda is synonymous to Arcot and what is even surprising that the kitchen from where the sweet is originated is also from same location/place. Rich in sweet and history it is amazing to know about such detailed information. Thanks Kripal for bringing and sharing the rich diverse food heritage of our country associated with history.
Thank you so much kripal for covering Arcot famous makan peda... This sweet deserve Pan recognition but don't know why its still struggle to survive... Late 90s I saw a street dedicated to this sweet shop... Slowly the shops were reduced . In those days kannan and jayaram sweet shops were dominated... Hope after this video this sweet will get it's rebirth....
@Kripal sir thanks for covering another iconic eatery as really surprised that a recipe generated during nawab time is still being continued...The peda was really of a different level when compared to Jamun also felt like jumping into the vessel filled with Makkan peda... Really droolworthy
With the help of some advocate the owner should get Geographical indicator tag for this product just like Thirupathi laddu and Mysore silk saree. (Its like patenting his product so that there are no imitations of brand name or product and also there is no claim by some one else on this product).
It's my hometown special Sir. Thanks for video 😊. May be next time you can try in Arcot Sweets near bazaar. that's much more traditional and maintaining legacy for age's 😊
Brings back childhood memories. The next time you travel to Vellore do try out the Gulab Jamuns from Bombay Ananda Bhavan. Made from khova and fried in ghee, they are out of this world. Also on Wednesdays, they make a special sweet called Angoor Boondhi, the taste of which is akin to jalebi, but round in shape with sugar syrup inside. And on special request and for larger orders, they make something called as Nukkal, which are nothing but cashews fried in ghee and coated with sugar.
Makkenbeda once tried on arcot chettiyar sweet stall or arcot new sweet stall both of them good in taste. Am from arcot.. Am promised you, you will feel more taste than bombay anandha bhavan...
Sir you are giving the happiness of eating most delicious foods by watching your program. Your excellent narration gives this much of satisfaction to the viewers. Thank you very much Sir 🙏
Looks tempting 😋 sir . An additional taste sting is from your taste experience and explanations , traveling to taste the unique eateries from all over South india @kripal sir
Lovely review, as always, Kripal. Trust me, your reviews are making me better informed on what to eat and where. A suggestion - please factor in Madurai and the various offerings there on your next trip to TN. The jigarthanda, Gopu Iyengar's mess, Visalam Coffee bar, the local adhirasam at SVSweets, Burma Idiyappam Shop, ragi puttu at a wayside stall at Teppakulam, bun parottas, the famed Kavannah kadai in Natham - list is endless.
@@hcmkarthick If it's permitted under government laws for consumption, we can use artificial colors. But that's not the major ingredient in Ashoka. I don't even know how many have tasted that wonderful delicacy.
@@kalain8970 i did it once on my way to Kumbakonam. Taste wise it was good, but the amount of artificial color they add bothered me a lot because sans color this sweet look light yellowish.
Ordered 500 gms makhan peda after watching your show. Quite fresh and good quality but taste was no different than gulab jamun. @Kripal Amanna, not sure why you were stressing so much on your show that it tastes totally different than gulab jamun. It is a nice big yummy gulab jamun with chiroli and some nuts inside it .

You have god gifted (and surely have worked also to develop more) vocabulary. You can illustrate a glass of water for 30 min 😄🙏
Man u r so down to earth and humble 😊
You are a lucky guy. My mouth is watering in Jazan Saudi Arabia.
When you visit Thanjavur, please try the local delicacy 'Ashoka' in Thiruvaiyaru, and Kumbakonam Kadappa and Filter Coffee
In Ashoka, they add artificial orange color. I don't think that's good for health.
