    Your videos are great. Very informative and enjoyable. I’ve got a cool 20 gal cube that’s been up and running a few weeks...first salt water tank I’ve done and all is well so far! Thanks for taking the time to post everything and great job making things so succinct yet engaging!
    Ps - I’ll proably need to upgrade to a 50 gal within a year or two...my diamond goby is gonna need it. And I absolutely must have a Midas blenny sooner than later. 😀

      Yes, clownfish is an absolutely retarded choice for a nano tank. Demoiselle are extremely territorial and clownfish even have the teeth to do damage with their aggression. Their anemone takes up a lot of space. But this is a bad recommendation list overall.
      Mollys for example are a much better choice.

    Great selection but no wrasse... I'd go with the pink streaked wrasse - small, peaceful and eats those nasty pests - I think that would be the other perfect nano tank fish

      Wish this fish would be more popular amongst reefers. They are cute, playful , peaceful, stay small(2 inches max) and is a great pest control fish! Beats six line wrasse in every area!

      They don’t look nice in a tank, I’ve had experience and it drew away of the reef and made it feel more of a deep ocean tank because it felt as if it was a red snapper because of the body shape and color (not size though). It’s not very budget friendly and most people that are starting nano tanks are starting their first tanks, and a fish over the price of 100 dollars isn’t too budget friendly…

    • @sunnygoold9449
      @sunnygoold9449 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@finnmurphy8359 +$100 - ok yeah that's not cool for that fish.. I still think there needs to be a pest eating wrasse though or something to do that job... yellow coris wrasse (not a coris) or a possum wrasse. I'm a fan of pipefish too (debatable that they eat pests)
      I'm the sort of person who wouldn't go budget with a nano though. I'd have to have a basslet type, a yasha + pistol, a wrasse and something that swims above the rockwork (some goby I guess). I would see a nano as a way to highlight a few very nice animals.

    Thanks 😊 🐠

    In german literature clown fish are not recommended below 200 liters. Sometimes even 250 liters. Wondering what you think about that and why you think clowns are fine in smaller tanks. Thanks :)

    • @ReefDork
      @ReefDork  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I suspect they'll live longer in a larger tank as it's more likely to have better quality water. But my clowns don't stray more than 6 inches away from the coral they call home, which is why most places online suggest smaller tanks. I personally wouldn't have a pair in less than 100L but plenty of others would.

    • @xroyalbloodx
      @xroyalbloodx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ReefDork I read it's because anemone need quite a bit of space and as such clownfish shouldn't be kept in anything below 200l (at least that's how German websites explain it)

    Hi everyone who is reading this. I'm a beginner reefer and have 1 question.
    When ever people say min size of 30 gallons, 20 gallons etc... Does it refer to swimming volume or total volume? For eg I have a Red sea reefer nano, 21Gal display 7 Gal Sump. So am I limited only to a 21 Gal fish or I can stretch to 28 Gal?

I want a small fish thats fun to watch. I was thinking yellow clown goby or watchman goby or a blenny. Does it get anymore interesting than that?
