      The refill tube (Hose going into the overflow valve) doesn't fill up the tank. It actually fills the bowl. It needs to place at least enough water as needed to cover the hole before the trap (aka poop hole) the valve actually releases water at two points. Around the valve and into the refill tube. The ratio is predetermined by the valve but some are adjustable.

    Great video! I now understand the flushing part, but the confusing part for me now is the float. I don't really get how it actually stops water from pumping in

    • @Jhanados
      @Jhanados 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      From my understanding, the force of the float's buoyancy is what makes it work. You can see that as it rises along with the water, it also moves the stick attached to it (2:59). The other end of the stick is attached to a small bit of plastic poking out underneath the cap. Once that bit reaches a mostly 90° angle, it acts as a closed lever, physically blocking the water from exiting the little black tube.
      The stick is threaded which allows you to change the height of water needed to fully stop the water by screwing it. Clockwise = more water needed and counter-clockwise = less water needed.
      Hope this helps!

    • @steventang4045
      @steventang4045 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Jhanados THANK YOU FOR THIS EXPLANATION. My stick was all the way clockwise, and my bowl was overflowing. But rotating my stick a bit counter clockwise seems to prevent the overflowing.

    What I don't get is how the water going in the tube fills up the bowl and the tank at the same time.

  • @RawFitChris
    @RawFitChris 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Where does the water come from that fills the tank (not down into the bowl via the black flow tube)? Does it come from a separate place that you didn't mention? Inquiring minds want to know!

    • @chiliboom6140
      @chiliboom6140 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just installed a new one. My version the water that goes into the tank comes from the lower part of the float tube, near the base.

    What happens when you flush and the handle does not go back into position

  • @joelbramble6915
    @joelbramble6915 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So all the water that comes into the tank does so via the refill tube? In my toilet, it looks like water also enters the tank from vents at the base of the flush valve... am I confused?

    • @chocolategravyandbiscuits8418
      @chocolategravyandbiscuits8418 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s my question. I understand everything but this. I believe the bowl fills from the hose shooting in the tube and the tank fills from these vents. I need more water in the bowl, but raising the level just makes it go into the overflow and never lifts float to shut off. It’s at the max level now. I think my only option is making the overflow tube longer.

    didn't say how the overflow tube fills the tank and the bowel, argh

    • @rdlu9966
      @rdlu9966 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was wondering the same thing . I just replaced my toilet fill valve. On my new Fluidmaster fill valve, there are small outlets surrounding the bottom of it where water flows out to fill the toilet tank. Simultaneously, water flows from the fill valve to the overflow tube through a hose to fill the toilet bowl.

    • @aud1gen
      @aud1gen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rdlu9966 okay that clears up my confusion. The fill valve doesn’t just send water to the overflow valve. Now I’m curious, though. My toilet does not have that tiny tube that stretches from the fill valve to the overflow valve, yet everything works fine. At least, I think everything works fine lol

    Our loo is funky. It has a strange flapper/fill pipe integrated into a huge block of plastic and the whole thing tilts back when you flush. We tried replacing it with standard works but it will not accept a regular flapper. Educational, nonetheless.

    I have fixed my fill valve recently replaced the old one which had some issues, but there is constant sound coming in the tank as if the fill valve is filing the water in tank. Can I know what am I doing wrong, also is there any height adjustment that I have to do with the fill valve, I mean at what height I am supposed to put the fill valve in the tank?

    Water level is dropping every few minutes, water is reaching until overflow tube and in few seconds it slowly drops down and it is filling again. Do you think flapper is not closing it properly?

  • @PoppyJone
    @PoppyJone 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What if the toilet tank is filling up while the flapper is trying to close? Mine does that and the flapper never has a chance to cover the seat unless I stop the refill valve wait till the flapper goes does and then I let off the refill and it works perfectly

    The middle heating element burnt out. So I dismantled it.This had very simple, almost foolproof, thermal/mechanical pop up mechanism. Electrical function was limited to only the heating element. No electronics, no electromagnet. That is why it survived so long.
