  • I FOUND FRIENDS! I had the immense pleasure of going thrifting with CatieOSaurus and Felix (Little Moon Witch). We thrifted in Atlanta, GA and also went antique shopping in Marietta, Georgia as well. Georgia held some interesting vintage thrift finds and we all definitely scored in the thrift haul realm! From vintage sewing patterns to vintage clothing to weird vintage finds, this thrift with me was definitely one for the books.
Some come along and check out all of the shenanigans, including finding haunted antique items, vintage Star Wars memorabilia, and so many more thrifting adventures!

I recently discovered your channel. As I watched your pattern haul in this video, I found myself wistfully wishing you would pull up, “The Methodist Dress”, and BOOM! Right at that moment you held up to the camera Simplicity 6931! My heart leapt, my mouth went dry, and I stammer/squealed, “The Methodist dress! The Methodist dress!”
You see in the 1970s as a teen novice to sewing, I discovered this pattern and made myself the long dress. In fact I made over a dozen for my mom, grandmother, 4 sisters and cousin. It was so easy, so comfortable, and best of all pretty much only needed to fit through the chest and shoulders because of the self tie.
Soon all the ladies of my little church began making this dress , and it was forever dubbed “The Methodist Dress”.

With the diva cup, since it's medical grade silicone, you /can/ technically sanitize it. Im hoping the one in the video goes to a person in need of one, esp seeing as they're like $30+ new.

Back in 1976 I was in charge of costuming my university's production of 1776. That Bicentennial dress dress patter was used for my Abigail Adams dress. There was another one that was slightly different I used for Martha Jefferson. At that point "historical accurate" was not top priority just getting 25 male cast and 2 female leads in somewhat period look I used the male companion patterns and started grabbing interesting fabrics. Did you know that our founding fathers lived in polyester double knit? (LOL)
So I had to go research the other patterns I used: Abigail was Simplicity 6787, Martha was Butterick 4260. For the men's clothes ---- most were variations of Simplicity 6741 and the rest were Butterick 4207 (Colonial Uniform with another Jacket view.) Then for the servants Butterick 4209. These 5 patterns costumed the production. This took me down memry lane.

Butterick 6550 is *not* a tuxedo. It's a tailcoat. The tuxedo jacket was devised to get away from tail coats and vests for dining at American resorts in summer, like Saratoga. Tuxedos are square around the bottom and end at the top of the leg. Tail coats are cut with separate tails down to the knees.
