I love all the sewing explorations as of late. Using new products or shapes or style. Always so fun and interesting. Leave it to Morgan to make historical latex clothes and make it approachable. Very cool!
The biggest disadvantage of latex for clothing is that it doesn’t breathe. Just think of how clammy your hands probably get (mine certainly do) when wearing latex gloves.

If you want to prevent triggering allergic reactions and also make the clothes more durable, shinier, and so you don’t have to powder them to take them on and off you can look into getting them chlorinated
It does change the stretch a little bit though but most people think that chlorinating your latex is worth it
It's also not very durable. Chances of ripping it at some point are pretty high .. it's suspectable to degradation from both UV and oils (from your skin).
And yeah...the sweating thingy is...not fun. Love the look of it, but not wearing it.
Libidex has some fit and flare dresses that are more fashion oriented and less fetishy.
I think many of us would love to see Morgan make and demonstrate an 11th-century Holy Roman Emperor's costume crafted from plywood veneer, badger skulls, and AA batteries.

I work at a shop that makes and sells latex, and I have to say, your construction techniques were very on point! I was impressed. I never expected to see a crossover from the historical costuming community and my work. Latex ruffles are my absolute favourite so I'd love to see you do something ruffly.

You took me right back to the late 80's when my boyfriend (at the time) ran a popular rubberwear shop and I'd spend time hanging around in the workshop keeping the designer company while he was creating garments.
He used to apply the glue to the seams with a toothed/crenelated "spatula" type implement in short strokes at right angles to the cut edge so that it had slight ridges in it - when it had cured and the seams were overlapped to stick them togehrer the ridges on each piece would interlock with ech other and help prevent shifting between the two pieces... (obviously the 80's was some years ago so I'm going on OLD memory here), and made for a stornger seam - like a cross between glue and stitching was how he explained it to me. No idea if the result was actually an improvement but he did it on everything he made.
He made me a full-body "superhero" type suit from vibrant pink latex as a thankyou for my helping them fit out their shop. It had a white mohecan (cut from a wig) set into the hood and a darling little barb-ended "devil's" tail. One of the disadvantages to wearing it was that if I raised an arm too quickly, the change of air pressure under the suit would cause the armpit to make a loud farting sound. Another was the need to talc myself all over in order to get into the suit more easily - and getting to the point when I knew I'd been in the suit for too long, which was when the paste caused by the talc sweating down into the feet of the suit would squish between my toes at every step... Ewwwwww! That was the cue to leave the other costumers, head back to my hotel room, shower, and change into something else before returning to the convention.

"Natural fabric" on the other hand is a very clear phrase with very consistent broad understanding; that's a far cry from the oxymoron you're asserting.
If you want to be a competent pedant and not just a dingbat, you should have focused on the word fabric, since _that_ is what latex is not.

And plus points that you did not use the latex milk (white glue) to do the seams, but the clear one. 🌟 By the way, you can also use a normal small brush to spread the glue, works for me as well (instead of a special glue spreader).

Since you can leave the edges raw, you can do really intricate tagged or scalloped medieval hems, and it also makes doing windowpane cut-outs super easy.
Easiest using a laser cutter.

I just looked up latex composition and it IS a natural "fiber" because organic latex is just tree sap and sulfur! maybe there's some chemist-y papers on the way the atoms are arranged, because it would be very funny if it were structured in a rigid pattern that could be mistaken for weave.

If you’re looking for latex inspiration, Jane Doe Latex has done some really cool designs for Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and several of the queens from Ru Paul’s Drag Race that use traditional dressmaking and couture techniques. Based on some of their designs, I think it would be fun to see a Rococo-style bodice or gown recreated in latex-very fitted but with lots of frills and bows.
..and it would be extremely heavy.
If you can think of something there's a 99% chance its already been done in latex
1, Registration marks are very important. You can use sharpie and then clean it off after the seams are glued(make sure to color test first)
2, instead of sewing pins, use binder clips to hold unglued material together.
Binder clips is a good tip! Or quilting clips for those that might already have them 😘

@@poppyt2682 Think ladder lines running across the seam all along its length, so that you can get both halves are lined up properly later even if there's stretching going on.

@@poppyt2682 some people also call them balance marks or notches (some people cut small notches in the seam allowance of their fabric to mark them). They're extra useful when working with bias cuts, curves, basically anything stretchy. By matching them up you prevent over or under stretching your fabric, so that curved seams have the right amount of fullness and you don't end up with puckers or excess fabric at the end of your seam!

I'd love to see you do more historical garments in latex, it's a material that seems so modern and current given how many major fashion designers have used latex lately, but there was all this rubber clothing made in the past. I'd love to see you attempt a Victorian coat in latex, get some fullness in the sleeves tapering to tightly fitted forearms or something like that. Or figuring out how to add pleats or tucks in it.
Also absolutely love that cinematic camera pan around you sitting at the table with your wimple and soundtrack music playing, SO good, more of that, expressing your creativity in your video production as well as in your clothing projects.

Oh you mean a Gigot sleeved latex coat. There are some tops out there that are actually done that way.
Im currently in the process of planning a cosplay of "the Lady of the Green Kirtle" aka the Green Witch from the Silver Chair book in the Chronicles of Narnia; and it strikes me that latex mimics the shine of snake skin. I won't use latex for mine because I already have a fabric in mind, but I'd love to see your (or anyones!) take on the dress and the cosplay!
This material and the colors made me think this could have been a cosplay of Android 21 from the DragonBall video games. The white latex could even be her lab coat, though the partial translucency likely isn't desirable for an overcoat.

@@tomasmondragon883 White latex picks up stains which you can't get out, and tends to yellow. Avoid it. The two-sided is Yummy Latex, other major suppliers are Radical Rubber and 4L. Chinese stuff had some appalling reputation for extremely dangerous chemical inclusions when they first got started, and will never be forgiven for their copyright rip-offs.
@@tomasmondragon883 As said White Latex is the worst. I have some that has been in a cool dark place, away from light in general not just sun, and its STILL ended up a cream color after about a year or 2. Dark colors in latex tend to dull when exposed to UV, where lighter colors seem to actually change their hue, aka a Pure White actually becomes a cream color after a while.

I love seeing a medieval style dress in latex! Just a head's up that generally speaking, you don't wanna use anything except stainless steel hardware because other metals can discolor your latex.

They do make hypoallergenic latex, but it's not advisable to make it at home because it uses an incredibly harsh chemical- chlorine!
Latex is allergic because its molecular structure is open ended and flaky. Chlorine binds to the latex and completes the molecule. Chlorinated latex is safe to wear, a little softer, and a little more durable!
There are a few stores where you can order it, but most people are understandably hesitant to work with it because having a tank of pure chlorine to soak the rubber in is... Bad for the lungs, ironically.
I can’t stop imagining renaissance stuff in latex now. Oh no better : since we often imagine fairy with clothes made out of plant, what if they had clothes out of latex ?
Morgan; vicariously living thru your current ‘series’! A note on latex: I had a domin@#$%x costume years ago. If it stretches a bit while wearing it, just stand in front of fridge, go on a walk in one or, if you can, remove and place in freezer for 15-20 minutes.

If you want to make proper corsets or stays, probably do you need a non stretchy fabric. Maybe a 1mm thin latex, or a 2 or 3 layers one (using latex and a non stretchy fabric) can do the trick.
Maling latex corsetry is abolutely possible and being done already, with rather thick latex and steel boning covered in plastic, but proper stays from latex sound great👍
Something like PVC might be a better alternative. The fabric backing (should) give it more structure.
As an aside latex vs PVC was not a conversation I expected to be involved with when I woke up this morning.
Idea for transparent latex: something like a sweet heart neckline and then use transparent Latex to give it straps or something like these illusion-necklines on some wedding dresses.
Radical also produce translucent, which is probably more in the lines you're looking for. Transparent simply isn't, it's just translucent natural rubber, which has a brownish tinge.
Really well done, and a very cute result!
One thing to watch out for is that copper stains latex very badly, so the fitting on that belt looks like brass. You either need to find copper free fittings of coat it in some like of laquer.
Here's hoping you do more in latex!
If you go back 30 years, you'll remember the era when latex actually rotted from copper. It just turned gooey. That meant copper, brass, bronze, rivets, zips, eyelets.

With your previous "Turned my friends into D and D" characters" video, it started me thinking about doing sort of a classic D and D "armor" outfit out of latex. Completely impractical as actual armor, but fun. Corsetry or stays would be fun too.
I am in awe of how literally every hair style has perfectly suited you. Like, literally every single one.
I love this! For the researchers out there: you can use mounting tape to keep the material from curling. Also consider scuffing the fabric with sandpaper and leaving the seam under pressure for the 24 hours.
There's no reason to fret about curling, as long as it doesn't glue itself to itself. It will flatten out. The reason to use masking tape/mounting tape is to keep one side from stretching more than the other. Registration marks are essential.
The scuffing's a carry-over from chlorination repairs, which we've now resolved by using Renia adhesives.
Such fun, I love the experiments you have been doing lately! It's interesting to see how such a thing could be translated into a underbust corset maybe. Not a traditionally 'rigid' one but a flexible (maybe even reversible) one? That way you could wear it like an edgy belt.
Also, can you make ruffles with latex? I'm digging the idea of non traditional latex accessories, like a jabot or wrist ruffles to give an edgy touch to any outfit... OMG the possibilities!

Seconding the latex ruffles!!! I mentioned, in an earlier comment, a latex house I like, Libidex- and my favorite thing they do are these ruffled garments with contrast piping, and they're so, so incredibly crisp and graphic and satisfying. Very much recommend.
Latex is a really fun material to work with and I'm so glad to see you playing with it! If you or anyone needs tips on storage, cleaning or even constructing latex clothing I genuinely recommend any BDSM or kink forums / groups that focus on latex (as long as you're 18+ ofc ). Ppl in kink are super helpful and are a super great resource for latex/rubber and leather!

that dress turned out so cute & much less kinky than i expected it to be. i guess the colour choice is a big part of it- i'd never imagined a colourblock dress with grommets when hearing 'latex' & that's awesome! seeing this has me thinking whether latex might be an actual substitute for leather use in cosplay..? i've been putting off sewing faux leather fitted pants (like ciri's from the witcher 3) because the fabrics i've seen so far don't stretch and also .. sewing pants. i wonder how that would look, whether you can weather latex or whether it would be too shiny, but i'm way more curious now to see heartshaped see-through-latex cutouts things :) i admire your creativity & skills to pull these things off
I imagine if you powdered the latex as she did for storage it wouldn't be too shiny you just might be powdery then
you can definitely dull the latex, the super shiny photos you see of latex being worn are taken usually less than a minute after a thorough polish with oil.
Other wetlook fabrics exist as well

I don't like how latex feels, but I really like your take on it! You made it less of a mythical thing to work with, and normalized it. At first I was afraid that you would have gotten datex or vinyl, but of course you know your stuff and it is the real deal.

A lot of drag queens (at least here in the UK) do really fun and interesting sculptural gowns with a mix of latex, pleather and scuba fabric (scuba fabric skirts drape like a *dream*). They are all a bugger to work with and combine though: I know the queens in my area don't attempt it at first without someone on hand with experience to help them.

I just recently cut my hair far shorter than I originally asked for. I was so upset because I thought it made me look less feminine (i do not think that WoMeN mUsT dReSs LiKe WoMeN i just personally like to dress with skirts and dresses), but seeing Morgan rock my hairstyle gives me a boost of confidence :) if she can look gorgeous so can I
I felt that way about my short hair too (curly hair shrinkage is a beast) but we can still be just as adorable with short hair as any other length. Hair pins and cute scarves, if your texture allows, are great ways to add a cute feminine touch.
fwiw having short hair like Morgan's made me feel a lot more comfortable in dresses and skirts and "feminine" clothes than I had been before. Something about the juxtaposition, idk if it was the Audrey Hepburn vibes or there's just a certain level of "feminine presenting" I'm comfortable at, but it was really fun.
(I'm sorry they took off more than you asked for, though, getting a haircut you didn't want is always lowkey devastating)

That camera angle at 0:56! I was thinking..."she doesn't have an interior window", then later I spotted the mirror and I knew. However, then I was even more amazed at the work needed to capture your image off a mirror and be so centered. Just amazing! You're creativity and sense of adventure knows no bounds. Ok, two things:
1. GORGEOUS. I love the look of latex fashion, though I’ve never worn it myself. (Mild allergy.) My spouse took me to a latex fashion show when we were dating, and I saw the coolest 1950’s style dresses. The only drawback I saw were the lack of closure. I think a laced up or belted 1950’s dress would look really really cool.
2. From one person growing out short hair to another, any historical ish cap/headscarf recommendations?
I would be fascinated to see one of the historical flowy/drapey gowns you often see made of fine linen or muslin, made of that finer latex. A Chemise ala Reine, perhaps? the wimple was so cool!

Your seams are wonderful (for anyone else trying, you want to avoid bubbles/press tiny ones out as much as possible bc tear point), and since you're working with double sided latex you don't need to worry about machined side (slightly more dull/sometimes light machine markings) than "right" side. It also looks like you're working with a gel pen which does wipe off well (and we use - my partner learned from a latex fashion designer). The powder is talc! It helps keep the latex from getting moist and molding/sticking. Sounds like early latex wear melted due to the process being so new - but low quality latex absolutely still degrades into mush over time.
13 : Oh yeah, usually we do a little section at a time but gotta try that cling film - and don't worry about latex walking, that happens, though yeah its a because stretching thing. Again, awesome seams! And yup, curved seams are difficult (making a cap, hood, mask etc is uhhh... well done better over a form!)
Latex soaked twill tape is something I haven't heard of before but definitely on the right track with encasing in the latex for a re-enforced spot... I knew you'd come up with really interesting workarounds bc of your other work, and well you know how corset boning channels work!

My only oh no is you want to use lube on your skin and the latex when putting something on that might "pull" more - to avoid tearing. And you're right on about temp - you will feel the ambient temperature. Hot out? Sweat time. Cold out? Freezing. The longer you wear, the more sweat you're gonna end up encased in. As for storage n care - I'd have to ask partner for more details to give full recc's but yeah, its its own storage and cleaning beast. You don't have to powder to store, and there are products to "feed" the latex so it keeps its shine. IDK what you did to clean up yours? It didn't look fully shined? But You're right on storing out of sun (we store our pieces in baggies with a corner cut off) also mind folding it up bc sometimes those folds can stick around awhile if it ends up under heavy stuff. IDK how to reach out further but I'm sure my partner can write down some of the class he teaches on latex wear & creation for future projects!

I don't often comment but this deserved it! Yo made a LATED DRESS LOOK WHOLESOME!!!!! Like wha?!??!?!?!?! But its also oddly wearable, when I saw the complete look I imagined running into you at a coffee shop and thinking what a cool dress but it wouldn't feel out of place at all. Ok, done rambling I'm just completely awestruck by this project!
Having made a couple of corsets because bras just don't do the job once you're past an E cuo, I have come to realize just how much cuts and structure can help clothes fit your body instead of the other way around.
When making the corsets, I used the sturdiest, best and most beautiful fabric available, and tailored each piece several times until the logistics finally worked (boning placement is very different for plus sizes than in any pattern!) and the corsets looked and felt great.
My young daughter has been hunting for a good sports bra for months, without really finding something that stabilizes her assets without digging into the shoulders, underarms, where the cups meet in front and around the underbust strap.
I have a feeling that a short corset that would spread the weight of the assets over a larger area might make shoulder straps almost ornamental, and vertical curved boning must dig in less than the traditional two crescents.
But a corset for excercise must be more flexible than the ones I have made, and handle sweat better. I have been thinking of using mesh, but panels of latex might be exactly what is needed to give that bit of stretch without producing hard folds.
I would love to see you develop a corset with support, breathability and flexibility by combining the characteristics of the three materials!

Having worn latex, I would not suggest it for sports - it does not really breathe. It does conform to your body temperature so you do not feel overheated in it, but the sweat has nowhere to go. At the very least, I would not use latex as the material immediately touching the skin.
Panache sports bras are where it’s at, you can get them on Bare Necessities. I like the ultimate high impact underwire sports bra. Two tips for picking a size for panache: use exact measurements to get a size then sister size up the band one. IE I used to buy the 30DD, but my my measures were ribcage 28, bust 34. 34-28=6 or DDD US (E UK), and when sister sizing bands and cups change opposite of each other, so band up to 32 and cup down to DD (Us and UK). Tip two is to pay attention to the size chart because panache bras are in up sizes. Almost all of the support should come from the band, if not the band size is too large.

Using a (tailor's) clapper is also great for gluing seams! You'll avoid the stretching that leads to rippling when rolling.

One thing that you might want to keep in mind is wearing it around other people is latex allergy which is very common. My mom and I are both allergic to latex. For me, it also affects my breathing. How it affects my breathing is that it makes me feel like reaching down my esophagus just to scratch the insane itch in my lungs and it makes it hard to breathe. I will get lightheaded and possibly pass out. If someone touches latex and then me or my mom after the protein can get on our skin that way too and still cause a serious allergic reaction. It basically looks like our skin is turning to goo after a while if we are exposed without our knowledge. It also puffs up and becomes inflamed and obsessively itchy before disintegrating into skin goo. Not fun! Curiously and interestingly though, latex rubber tires for cars and whatnot don’t have an affect on us. I suspect that it is because it is processed in a way that it becomes such a solid form that the latex proteins aren’t released in the air or upon contact. Also, latex is one of those allergies that one doesn’t build tolerance to. One actually builds an intolerance that could lead to latex-fruit allergy as well. There are fruits that have a similar protein to that of latex and the body might be so sincere in protecting itself from latex proteins that it will react to any protein that is similar; which means no more guava, papaya, jackfruit, avocado, etc… Ultimately, it is a very serious allergy. Please be careful wearing this outfit around others and in enclosed spaces in public.
Beyond that, your garment looks very lovely on you and complements your figure quite nicely! I wish I could try my hand with this material as well, but, alas, I must experience it vicariously through others instead. I’m sure you understand.
I think it turned out great! For such an unconventional material for a garment like this, it looks like it works surprisingly well and looks great because of the latex's properties (shininess, vibrancy). For doing more latex experiments you could probably make pieces that'd compliment this kirdle, from accessories to jackets to even a cape or something like hat. The belt is very adorable with it also 🥺

I really love the angle you are approaching latex from as I too am interested in the more ”casual” ways of making and wearing latex clothing. In the end of the day, it is just another material like cotton or leather. I also love how comprehensive this video was and you had clearly done your research. The dress is beautiful!
