Self centering…very much correct!
Not a clutch, it’s called a self centering bushing. Proper placement is next to the arbor nut. The shear gear in the cross feed transmission will protect the lathe from over cutting the rotor. No disrespect intended.

That’s not correct. The quick chuck is the most accurate way to mount a rotor.
