First when I saw it was a sourdough video I was about to avoid it because I’m a celiac without an oven. However as soon as I saw your channel I chose it because I love your family’s vibe and I enjoyed it too.
I am so glad that you are able to cook without recipes. Esther I need some cooking lessons! Married 46 years and I still have a lot of trouble in the kitchen. Blessings to you all!!!
Esther Pie, you are a sweet beautiful young lady. I know your Momma appreciates all the cooking and baking you do. It's so nice to have an extra set of hands when it comes to cooking. Like I told your Momma before, you will be doing all the cooking before you kknow it. God bless you sweetheart. 🙏
This message is for Esther: I love rosemary too. It's my favorite spice and I grow it in my garden. You might try putting some in your mom's soup next time; its great in soup.
Love this video, ladies. I will have to try the sourdough instructions 😊. I have a difficult time following recipes also. Thank you, ladies, for sharing with all of us. Blessings to you both as well as the rest of your family.
It is always such a blessing to see and hear from the dear Smyth family. I love sour dough baking though have never tried einkorn flour. Everything looked so good! Love you all! ❤
@@1000sofrootsI tried to find an address so I could ship Ester a new dough hook but Amazon says it won’t deliver to PO Box and your show notes only reference a box so I’m not sure how I can have something sent to you? I know you do a lot of thank yous when people send you things but I have no idea where they have found your address. Sorry just wanted Ester to know I’d send it to her if I could.❤
Ester is a great help in the kitchen ... even like a grown up ... I don't measure I estimate ... proud of you. Thank you Mama for learning her great values ... I am definitely going to bake bread rolls' tomorrow😊
Just started sourdough journey, started 2 one with regular flour and 1 with wheat, ..the wheat one has taken off, not the regular one...still trying...Have a Blessed day
Always enjoy your videos. This one was really interesting to hear all the ways you used to sourdough. Though I've always had a problem getting past that sourdough taste, but after hearing you talk, I think I'd be willing to try it. I'm not sure if this is the video you mentioned Having your cold box or not since you don't have a refrigerator but I'm curious. How do you keep it cold all the time? Do you buy ice? Or do you have another way? Great video God bless?
Thanks for sharing. We have a freezer, so we are able to rotate ice blocks and frozen water in stainless steel jugs from our freezer to our cold box as needed to keep it cold. It's a bit of work, but it works.🙂 Blessings to you.❤
Greetings from very cold Wisconsin. Carrie & Esther, thank you so very much for explaining this sourdough starter information. It is just about impossible to purchase bread with simple basic ingredients and without all the preservatives and dough conditioners, and, and, and, added. Just to be clear about the directions, the jar of starter stays out of the fridge unless you want to stop its growing for a few days/ week. Once you take it out of the fridge does it have to come to room temperature to feed it or can you feed it immediately upon taking it out of the cold? I cannot wait to try your recipe out to make bread, crackers, sandwich buns, and of course pizza, and I won’t forget the cinnamon rolls. They look soooo delicious! I am remembering a number of years back making Amish bread starter and mushing the feedings in a ziploc bag. Nice ending John 6:35🙂.
Greetings! Thanks for sharing. Yes, we just keep our starter on the counter top the days we want to use it. You can feed the starter right away after bringing it out of the fridge. I hope you come to enjoy sour dough as much as we do. Blessings to you.❤
I am new to sourdough bread and all videos I have seen they do a stretch and fold method, do you not stretch and fold? Asking due to a bot of confusion😊
Good question. Since we use einkorn flour, which makes a much stickier dough, we don't stretch and fold. We just quickly shape the dough into a loaf shape and plop it in the bread pan.🙂
How much starter do you need to make a cake?I usually ferment my starter up to 72 hours in the fridge and then use it from there since it is already fermented but I would love to make a cake from it!
I use about a half cup of starter to one cup of flour for a 9" square pan. Other ingredients are 1/2 cup each of milk, honey, melted coconut oil, cocoa powder; 1 t. vanilla, 1 egg, 1/2 t. salt, and 3/4 t. baking soda. Blessings to you.❤
Just curious. We were grain free as a family for many years but have had improved health as we added grains back in different forms after feeling led by Yahuah through the Scriptures regarding bread being life giving.
We still do some grain free recipes, but we added in sourdough einkorn and everyone seems to do well with it. Thanks for asking and sharing where your family is at. Blessings to you.

Would the white all purpose or whole wheat einkorn be best?
Thank you.
We use both. Both work well, so you can use whichever you prefer. The whole wheat seems to keep our starter "happier" though. Blessings.❤
Are you guys no longer grain free? The recipes shared are usually almond or coconut flour.
Just curious. We were grain free as a family for many years but have had improved health as we added grains back in different forms after feeling led by Yahuah through the Scriptures regarding bread being life giving.
