I worked on a 220' AHTS Supply Vessel. I loved being on the wire. My longest tow was from Santa Barbara, Ca to Dutch Harbor, Ak. There, we supplied the rig we towed, around the clock for 5 days. Then, reattached the wire, and towed her North for 300 miles. Great job. 2 years in the Bering Sea. Towed 17 rigs in total up there, and lived in Dutch Harbor. Enjoy tug life. I did.
Great video. I used to work with Wijsmuller Netherlands. The longest tow I've ever made was an oilrig from the Caribbean to the Persian gulf. Took us 5 months while during the trip we were supplied by another ship. Thankfully, we had a smashing crew of 17.
Being on the wire, under tow, is relaxing. Longest tow I was on, was from Ventura, Ca. To Dutch Harbor, Ak. 4,000 miles. Great tow. Did it 3 times. All were semi submersible drilling rigs. 1984-85

Awesome. Now THAT is a long time on the wire. Holy Crap.
I get the feeling that the marine industry is the best kept secret in the world.

I even went to elementary school which was called commodore McDonough and it's sat right next to the canal and right under the St George's bridge
So sorry to hear that. Join the Coast Guard that'd be fun.
Whats the schedule like on those boats? Looks fun and diffrent from doing river work
2 weeks on the boat, 6 hours on watch 6 hours off watch. repeat for the entire 2 week trip
Depending on your boat
I do 4 weeks on 2 weeks off. Some boats do 12 hours on and 12 off. We do the 6 hours on and 6 off
