There is literally a full chapter in A Dance With Dragons dedicated solely to describing, in extensive detail, Daenerys dealing with explosive diarrhea.
But that wasn't in the show so we still haven't *seen* it. We read about it, but we've yet to visually witness such a thing. Personally, I think we should petition HBO to finally give us what we want in season 3.

I think this episode really highlighted the dragons for me. Vermithors otherworldly fire sound, silverwings playfulness and vhagars ruthlessness. I dunno i just never noticed the personalities of the dragons before
And in case anyone cares i think vermithor is fiercesome because hes had to deal with Cannibal eating his children for decades and, thinking about that maybe thats part why he likes hugh, hugh also knows the feeling of not being able to save your kid.

We always knew that one day the conflict between schwift and shift would result in one or both of them dying, but it's a real shame that Glidus also died as a result of collateral damage due to his close proximity to schwift at the time of the incident

Glidus is pulling a GRRM. He keeps doing everything except finishing the Pisstake series. He'll do a Blisstake for HotD season 2 before finishing season 6, and I almost respect the dedication.
I mean.... yeah? It makes sense to create content about the recent thing that is currently airing before going back and making content about an 8 year old season of television.

Episode 2 is my favorite as well, but Episode 7 is close behind it.
To be fair to Aemond, Aegon's kingsguard bros were unfit for the role and put his mom and his sister's lives in danger with their incompetence during the riot. It was left to Rickard Thorne to single handidly save them and get them out of there.
Kingsguard too seldom get punished for their habitual uselessness.

Episode 8 isn’t coming for another 6 months isn’t it
I think this episode showed that Daemon has no real power of his own. Willem Blackwood mistook him for someone with power because of the dragon and the king title and the sword and demeanor but now he finds out he backed the wrong man and that the real power is having people trust you and follow you. In the end Daemon has to come to terms with only being a representative of Rhaenyra. The rivermen made it very clear they follow her and not him.

Hugh claiming his Grandfather’s dragon, Ulf claiming his, alleged, Grandmother’s dragon and Seasmoke claiming the half brother of his former rider is such a great way of executing this event from the books.
All makes sense to me. Honestly animals can act that way in real life. A pet will open up to family members of their master more than strangers. That’s for sure.

For the talk of Rhaenyra benefitting from sending food to the city she's blockading, a reminder that the Tyrells similarly gained popularity by sending food to King's Landing to relieve the food shortages they had previously caused. Macroeconomic consequences aren't something the maesters teach a lordling, let alone the smallfolk.

I'm a person with a somewhat complicated parental situation, and Jace talking about Harwin destroyed me a little bit. No matter how much your parents love you and care for you, they still can really mess you up simply by choosing the circumstances of your birth, and you have absolutely no say in this by default. And Jace's probably got the best parents in the show. Yes, his concerns are political but also deeply personal, and it makes so much sense and I love it.

The writing is just next level man the way Jace's personal insecurities are woven in with the plot and the way the plot affects ideological groups like the dragon keepers.

Just a thought, but maybe Rhaenyra doesn't talk about how she didn't actually killed Laenor because it will annul her marriage with Daemon\make her a polygamist? that will mean her children with Daemon are also bastards. The sound design was so good in this episode. Vermithor is my favorite dragon in-universe and his growls and sounds that he makes were wicked. He definitely lives up to his nickname. Sounds very intimidating.
I think it’s pretty clear now that when Alys said “you will die here” she meant Daemon as we know him won’t exist anymore by the time she’s done running him through Westerosi Luigi’s Mansion

Some notes on Velaryon genetics because I had way too much free time: SO Valaena Velaryon, mother of Aegon I & co, was half Targaryen herself. It seems unlikely that a second son/minor branch would be given the honour of a Targaryen bride, hence its likely that Valaena's father was the lord, and given she'd be a similar age to Daemon Velaryon, Lord of the Tides during the conquest, it seems likely that they'd be siblings, and Daemon would be half Targaryen himself. Assuming that is the case (which IS just an assumption, but the most likely scenario imo) Addam and Alyn would have 1.57% Dragonlord DNA (that also assumes that the Velaryons didnt intermarry with any other Targ-descendant houses like the Darklyns).
For reference: Rhaenyra has 32.82% dragonlord DNA, and Daenerys has 2.4%. Addam is still an unlikely case, but if Dany is anything to go by, its by no means impossible.
Including the 'broadly Valyrian' dna that the Velaryons would already have, Addam and Alyn are actually more Valyrian than Dany (6.26% vs 4.11%).
(And yes I have calculated every single Targaryen's entire genetic makeup, as well as most named Velaryons. I have no excuse other than boredom)

Really let's you relate that we all fantasize about doing all kinds of crazy and amazing stuff that would increase our status, standard of living (better job, some other opportunities) or general wellbeing but whenever the occasion actually rises, we are reluctant to jump at it, like we do not actually believe that we deserve it. At this point I'm just gonna assume that Glimbus finally snapped after the season 2 finale and is currently being held in a mental institution.
I understood the Rhaena/Seasmoke situation that when she tried Laenor was still alive, and so Seasmoke would not accept anyone. But now that he is restless and lonely, it stands to reason that Leanor died and this is why Seasmoke went out to find a new guy.
My only problem is WHY would rhaenyra and daemon even let her try?? They have no way of knowing if Laenor’s alive or dead. Why not have Rhaena try to claim Silverwing or something?
@aud2d2 agree on that. I'm not sure what the first reference to her experience was on the show, if she tried more than one dragon. But yeah, they should have just tried Silverwing, she's chill and definitely doesn't have a dragon. Also, if Rhaenyra was still sane, the same should have been done with the dragonseeds this episode, starting with Vermithor was insane. In character for her arc, but such an awful decision.

@beden653 I think it's implied Rhaena has tried multiple times to claim a dragon against her parents wishes and been rejected, and nearly killed, each time.
She is supposed to have a dragon egg that has never hatched. I think it was even in the egg warmer with the three others.
@melissaharris3389 that's the impression I had as well, I just can't remember the exact quotes, so didn't want to bank my money on it. She tried multiple times, possibly with multiple dragons, and yeah, her egg didn't hatch. Thank goodness she didn't try Vhagar, the old grumpy nana could've roasted her immediately... but then again, who knows what the thinking process in that old head is. She probably thinks Aemond is Visenya. Maybe she would've accepted Rhaena no problem.

I think Larys decided not to inform Aemond about the dragons because he wants to diminish Aemond's sense of control. At the high council, Aemond delegated with confidence and was informed enough to have his own opinions about things. With less information, he'll be more reliant on his council. Or perhaps Larys wants Aemond to die in a dragon ambush. (I haven't read the books)

Also, the scene with Addam and Corelys: you can see a guard standing at the door, so I suspect that some of their awkwardness is due to them not being alone.
When it comes to Larys failing at his task, it could also be about his tactics for gathering whispers. He uses the rats and spies on highbornes in the Red Keep. Varys and Mysaria use the smallfolk. He underestimates the smallfolk and only focuses on the people around him and the secrets he can use against them.
There's something to be said about the number of layers too. Larys didn't fail as it wasn't his news to tell. Ironeod could have told aemond regardless of larys' opinion
It seems pretty obvious to me that he also considered it bad information or just idle gossip not worth being brought to attention, but I haven't seen anyone seriously consider that

Fully agree with your criticisms of this season (even while I still love this show), but I’ll be honest I saw most of the issues coming once the writers strike was imminent. Plus, for whatever people had to say about the time skips in S1 it allowed for some seriously tight thematic writing, which was always going to be lost a little.
The pacing of major plot points is almost episode by episode where I expected, but I did assume we’d have more substantive conversations happening in between.
This is my main problem with this season, the season 1 episodes were so thematically consistent and self-contained, each of them almost like a play, so this season feels a bit disjointed.
The writers strike didn't affect hotd. It was already written and the actors are from the uk

The dragons having their own conversation was one of the scenes that really cemented for me that Viserys was right when he said "the idea that we control the dragons is an illusion". Like, it gives me the feeling that what's going on here isn't really a standoff between two riders, with their dragons chatting in the back, it's a dominance contest between two dragons, to which the riders are, at best, incidental, or at worst, psychic sockpuppets for the dragons to negotiate through. I feel like the outcome of the negotiation between the riders was more dictated by the outcome of the negotiation between the dragons than the other way around.
Ever since Vhagar ate Arrax, I've had the nagging feeling that this might not really be a war between humans, in which they use dragons as weapons, at all. It might be a fight between dragons, in which humans are bent to the wyrms' will. Perhaps Aemond isn't a psychopath who keeps murdering and mutilating his family members because of his shitty upbringing, but rather because Vhagar has decided she wants to eat every other dragon on the continent and that's what she needs him to be to faciliatate that.

Glad to see others questioning what multi-dimemsional trap Glidus got himself tangled up in this time.
My favourite scene was Jace confronting his mother about his legitimacy. Though, it contributes to one of the reasons I felt this season was poorly constructed by not allowing him his plotlines in the Vale and the North. Seeing him be consistently competent in his duties as a prince and then we come to the scene in this episode would have made it hit so much harder, because for all his competence, his insecurity is there and real and palpable. He’s been the victim of circumstances his mother made for him and even though he’s thinking of the future and not the Black faction immediate needs, his points and feelings are no less significant. I genuinely believe he could have drastically been the standout of this season. . It’s all the more poignant when you know he knows his trueborn uncle rides the largest living dragon and fits the image and competence of what everyone expects a Targaryen king to be.

People are complaining about how “slow” this season is but I still think they are skipping over what could be valuable or important moments in favour of hitting the events written in the source material
I will say they did show him to be competent in how he handled the Freys. Is it enough? No, but it's there to some degree.
