In the Wine Country-Montefalco, Italy: Day 1

  • Montefalco is a small town in Umbria, about 2 hours from Rome and its geographical area is famous for Montefalco wines. One of the local indigenous varieties is Sagrantino and this video is about the visit to the local wine festival, Anteprima Sagrantino, organized by www.consorziomontefalco.it.
    The interesting thing about the Sagrantino grape is that it has one of the highest tannic levels in the world, twice the level of tannin in Cabernet Sauvignon for example.
    During our time in Montefalco we visited the Complesso Museale di San Francesco, built in the 14th century, which features a number of really impressive frescoes and a wonderfully decorated ceiling.
    Also, in the evening we visited Il Carapace di Tenuta Castelbuono, an incredible piece of architecture in the middle of vineyards, where we went for a dinner party.

    I can taste it over 4,000 miles away.......mmmmmmm. How I miss local Italian wines. Never had a bad wine when asking for local.
