@@henryslaby4561 We've had an unofficial alliance for over 500 years now (techincally speaking except a couple of times). So we helped each other out in the times of need basically. You can read a lot about these actions on the internet I think.

@@davidkaaa i love the idea too, but there is not to much mentionable battle - the hungarian black army simply outmatched everything in that time, perhaps only the Ottomans have real chance to defeat them, but Mathias Corvinus try to avoid every open conflict with the Ottomans and make a long term peace agreement with the Ottomans.
Perhaps the Siege of Vienna is the only mentionable "battle", but even we, hungarians didnt learn about to much about that, even i know little about that (despite i try to find something about the war even in the national library...) except to Mathias captured Vienna in the end and stay under hungarian contol until Mathias death.
@@attilaedem101 Under the siege of Breslau (Wroclaw) the black army routed a polish army, the odds were 1:5 - 1:10 to the polish. But that was not a "great" battle neither, they used guerilla tactics.

@@TheMacedonianBackBreaker Hungary is a lot more influenced by Germans and the fromer Byzantines than Slavs. Hungary was catholic from the get go. also slavs wasn't major players till Peter the Great in Russia's case and the end of WW1 for every other Slav. Hungary Didn't have a lot of Slavic kings to be influenced by, meanwhile Hungary had a lot of Germans, especially the Habsburgs.

Getting 2 envoys per levy means Hungary will basically be able to use wealth civ 5 style to control city-states he can become suzerain of, which with the new diplomatic favors system and diplomatic victory means he will be one of the best civs for winning the diplomatic victory.
As for domination, he doesn't need to focus on production hardly at all unlike other civs, as long as he has the money to maintain city-state suzerains with his ability, he can (with the help of the gov. plaza building the cheapens levy cost) call forth large, fully upgraded armies that he didn't have to previously pay to maintain, and use them with the additional combat boost to conquer his enemies in large bursts.
He is probably not a civ for beginners, but with proper use of his abilities I can see him being one of the more powerful civs.
EDIT: Also I'd just like to add that I love the music for this civ. That is all.
Don't forget that strategic resources are now expendable, you must have the gold AND the resources needed to maintain this large levied army.
@@ladyandreadoria But still, if you can get a hold of those ressources and got 2-3 city states in a good position you could actually sell those ressources for 30 turns, since you dont have your own large standing army and after that you can go for your next streak of conquering. Also remember that being the suzeran of many city states often gives you access to different ressources they have near them, thus you might have way more ressources than others, especially if the technology for them was researched only a few turns ago.
The music is actually based on a hungarian folk song about a boy being too short to be enlisted. Ironic, isn't it?

When I saw levied units my eyes instinctively rolled. It seems however that not only have you made levied units good (for this faction at least), but you've done so with a great amount of synergy. I think this will be a fun civ to play as.

I'm struggling to decide whether I think this Civ is going to be ridiculously strong or ridiculously bad XD
It reminds me of the Zulus, if playing for domination they can get a snowball rolling.
The Saxy Gamer i think it’s up to how good their unique units actually end up being. If they’re significantly better than the things they replace, the civ on the whole will be really strong. If they’re about the same or only a little better, this will be really weak.
Will probably depend on the availability of city states. If he's playing against Greece/Georgia, he'll have trouble maintaining suzerainty due to the sheer amount of envoys in his way.
I don't know, once he's able to levy units from a city state, it seems like it'd be hard to take suzerain from him, since he can literally just buy envoys at that point.
The problem with him I think is that other players can just kill the city states and if they do that before he's able to levy some troops he's not going to be optimal.

Yeah, what? The Mongols retreated. They failed to conquer all of Hungary. Similarly: did the US win the Vietnam war? No. They were beaten back, like the Mongols were.
If Hungary was utterly defeated in the first Mongol invasion, then how come the king successfully reconquered Hungary's core territories from the Holy Roman Empire the very next year?

I've been thinking about how Hungary could be represented in a Civ game - Over its eleven hundred years of history, Hungary has been many things, has seen many eras. I personally would go with the 19th century, freedom-loving, science and culture focused Hungary of revolutions and noble dreams.
But this Mathias Corvinus and military focus isn't bad either - I like it more than if it was a "Virgin Mary's land of faith" which is basically the focus of most Hungary mods.
The thermal bath thing is an interesting addition! I like it. All in all, looking forward to finally seeing Hungary in Civilization!

For people not knowledgeable about Eastern Europe history this guy actually imprisoned Vlad the Impaler (aka Dracula). He ended up regretting it as he has lost a powerful ally this way (also his cousin).

But it was historically proven that the Turkish collaboration was actually a Wallachian boyar plot to overthrow a powerful king who was ,in their view, encroaching on their own interests :)! Mattias has believed them a bit to easy maybe over his childhood fried (as the grew together in Iancu's/Janos's court along with Steven and they all grew up to become great leaders).

Vlad was a puppet of the Ottoman empire-even grown up as a hostage of the ottomans(his father was clearly ottoman vassal)-first tried to conquer Wallachia with an ottoman army ruled wallachia for a month only-unknown reasons till today-some sources claim that Janos himself chased away Vlad the Impaler.
Then 1451-peace deal of Adrianapol mentions that Vlad II becomes leader of Wallachia again.
Vlad II dies in 1456-Vlad the Impaler becomes "independent" ruler of wallachia for 6 years.

thermal baths are very common in hungarian cities. i know this because im hungarian and its a big part of our culture. but putting a thermal bath as a wonder for hungary is pretty fucked up. thats like putting small thomb as a wonder for egypt instead of the great pyramids

The Sabaton song you're thinking of is referring to the Winged Hussars of Poland, not the Hungarian Hussars, which were the cavalry unit Poland created its Winged Hussars in the image of.

Sorry to say, but the Hungarian Hussars are completly different from the Polish (Winged) Hussars - the Polish one are a heavy cavalry equiped with lance's and sabers as secondary weapons and have a decent heavy armor, while the hungarian one is a light cavalry designed for skirmishing - equiped with firearms, pistols and sabers and their are wear only cloths (which give protection against cutting only).
This is the reason why the hungarian hussar type served in most of european army even during the WW1 while the polish winged hussars vanished in the late 18th century, the hungarian one more flexible and the armor become closely usseles becouse the firearms become more and more advanced.
Fun fact: the hungarian hussar unit inspired the polands later to creat the winger hussars, so we can consider the hungarian one as the original hussars.

Look at the new minimap, it looks like owned sea tiles are no longer visible in the same way anymore, yass!!! Finally, now the maps won't look so weird and crowded :D

If hungary ever gets a 2nd leader in Civ 6, heres my proposal:
~ *ARPAD OF THE MAGYARS* ~
Leader ability: *"terror of the steppes"*
Description: _instead of starting with a settler, hungary starts with _*_SEVEN_*_ magyar horsemen units (replaces the black army unit but retains the huszar) but settlers will have slightly higher production costs until the medieval era._
Special unit: *magyar horsemen*
-kinda similar to scythia's or mongolia's horse archer (I haven't tried both yet), but only one is built instead of 2. Can pillage once per turn without consuming movement points.
*Play style*
You start the game without any settlers but with 7 magyar horsemen units (symbolizing the 7 magyar tribes) and what you're (or the AI) going to do is to hunt down the nearest poor, unfortunate civ's settler or capture their new, relatively unprotected city (simulating the nomadic nature of the magyars) by declaring surprise war at them. However, building settlers is slightly much harder.
》soooo, if you are playing as a different faction and you start seeing AI Arpad's horsemen at your borders early in the game, prepare to restart BECAUSE YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN TO BE *REPLACED*《
With the magyar horsemen, they will help you terrorize nearby civs by pillaging their improvements for getting gold or production, which will help you build your own cities or build settlers (beccause of your civ penalty). Or you can capture the newer, less defended cities for your self. (Again, this simulates the raiding and hit & run tactics of the magyars)
Yes, of course. This faction will really suck if it starts at an island or played in an archipelago map. By standard, Arpad will still get Hungary's "pearl of the danube" civ bonuses.
I'm still waiting for a Romanian Civ, but this satisfies me as well, seeing that Matei Corvin was born in Cluj Napoca, which is now part of Romania and the city where I live

I believe it's very likely. Poland currently has Lwów in Civ6, which used to be Polish and in Civ6 we had lithuanian city/cities.

Hungary's unique ability is "Hide the homeless!". This ability lets you stop poverty, raising constant happiness around the aristocracy
Their unique building is the Hungarian Parliament Building. It replaces the funfair, and provides + 10 extra "amenities from middle class"
Hungary's unique unit is the "Meszaros"...This is a millenial era, heavy weighted unit, that can make any type of currency disappear...and basically lose you the game.
Orban's unique ability, is the "STOP SOROS". With it you can build fences around your border without any cost, and instantly unlock the Populism Policy

great scientist generated 10 % faster or

I grew and learn with this game. I used to play civ3, civ4, civ5 and now civ6. continue make this game nice

Apart from the standard civs like: Ottomans, Byzantines, Sweden, possibly Denmark, maybe some new African civ, I would love to see Yugoslavia, Bohemia/Moravia, Romania/Transylvania under Vlad The Impaler lol. How cool would that be?

Good choice. Corvinus was a fascinating character and it's good to see a new toy for those of us who love to go stomping!
For people not knowledgeable about Eastern Europe history this guy actually imprisoned Vlad the Impaler (aka Dracula). He ended up regretting it as he has lost a powerful ally this way (also his cousin).
