As a war thunder javelin player, I have extremely mixed feelings for this bird

Superseded (by the Lightning) about 4 years after it entered service, and went through NINE 'marks' during its service life... shows either how fast technology moved, or how rubbish the initial design was - take your pick.

Definitely the former. The javelin was rather good. Most 50s planes didn’t last too long because of rapid development

@@thesnazzycomet I'm saying both. The design was both obsolete and somehow unresolved before it entered service. The sunk cost fallacy was massive back then.

It would have been good - if it wasn't for that blasted T-tail and the engine flameouts! TBF, the Jav did some sterling work East of Suez, and wasn't too bad as a night fighter.

It was adequate. They never got it quite right aerodynamically. Too much drag, slower in reheat than cold heat, don't dare think of a spin in it, but it was well armed and had good radar so was an effective all weather bus. The thin wing redesign proposal never got off the drawing board. RAF should have taken the DH110 which was superior as an aircraft.
