  • This is a quick video on how to disassemble the gearbox on the Acedeck NYX Z1 electric skateboard.
    I recommend a plastic scraper or spudging tool in place of the steel paint scraper I used. You should be careful when separating the case halves as you don't want to risk damage to the seal or gear.
    Overall it's pretty straightforward, take your time and have fun.
    This is the link for the grease I used in the video.

      It's definitely worth it. Use code "ETA Wheels" at checkout to save some cash off the total including shipping.
      Acedeck sends it air freight so the usual issues shipping to Hawaii don't apply.

      @@adamsimonow my biggest suggestion is before you put bindings, try the YOC shock absorbing grip. After I tried it, I didn't feel the need for bindings as much, even off road.

      @@ByronETAWheels Yeh right! That is amazingly timely, as I've been looking at bindings just this week. It definitely gets more bumpy off-road than I'd hoped, so this could be just the ticket. If you have an affiliate link send it through 😊

      @@adamsimonow I don't have an affiliate link, but their service is pretty awesome. They can do custom designs etc.
      For when things get super bumpy, MBS f5 bindings are very nice also, but for where I ride and how I generally ride, the shock absorbing grip is awesome by its self. It's just one step better with the grip.
      Not sure where you are located, but YOC is in France, but ships quickly. I would also suggest you get a few friends together as 6 sheets = 1.0kg shipping weight and the charge is the same for 1-6. 🤙

    How much grease should you put in, is too much grease bad for the gears?

    • @ByronETAWheels
      @ByronETAWheels  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's best to fill the splines halfway with grease, spin everything by hand a few times and wipe off the excess.
      Great question!

    how often does gear drive require maintenance? Considering purchasing Nyx Z1, but concerned about the screws below the deck and motor covers / gear drive ability tu survive rough terrain

    • @ByronETAWheels
      @ByronETAWheels  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am not kind at all to my Acedeck, I rode it on some of the harshest terrain around Maui, and it held up beautiful.
      I did however take the time to go through and inspect everything, apply thread locker to everything etc.
      It's a fantastic board and really has some amazing capabilities. If using off road, I highly recommend the MBS F5 system and some 3mm shock absorbing grip tape from YOC grip. It's really good stuff.
      The gear drive generally doesn't require a lot of maintenance, I opened it to show how to grease, what it looks like inside and to prove how well the seals work on the gearboxes.
      It's a very well built board.

      It's fantastic stuff. I use it in several different applications, including my PC fans, drills and other high speed, high torque items.
      It also doesn't destroy the POM gears. It's also good for metal on metal.

    Is it possible to change gear drive for belt drive?

    • @ByronETAWheels
      @ByronETAWheels  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's possible if you have all the parts needed for the conversion.
      You will have to do some measuring to confirm the parts will fit, and some custom work work may possibly be required.
      Acedeck has some amazing customer service, and I'd suggest reaching out to them and asking.

    Hey nice video! i want to buy one but got a question about the wheels. What is the smalest tire size you can put on the rims it comes with?
    And can you put for example 120mm cloud wheels on it? or any other? i some times need the extra range and i gues those big tiers eat a fair chunk of the battery.

    • @ByronETAWheels
      @ByronETAWheels  ปีที่แล้ว

      Fantastic question! Unfortunately at the moment it's the 200mm pneumatics, however they are actually developing the adapters for other wheels.
      I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but the bolt pattern is pretty close to cloud wheel rovers and can possibly be adapted.
      The downside of gear drive is the current availability of different wheel types.
      Also remember that to properly take advantage of the system, you would have to alter the gear ratios as well. Acedeck has told me as of March they are going to be releasing different gear sets to change the ratios up.

    • @leyo300
      @leyo300 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ByronETAWheels Wow fast awnser thanks! But can you fit like 6 inch tiers on those rims? Should improve the range quite a bit 🤣
