  • It was believed that spirits are first invented by the Arabs, with the fine example of the word Alcohol has been derived from "Al- Khul" .
    "Al- Khul" refers to the Arabic practise of producing a black powder by condensing a vapour of metal Antimony.
    The powder was then used as Eye make up.
    Still Arabs using the term "Al khol" for Eye Liner.
    The word Distill comes from the word "Al- ambiq".
    The distillation process known to the ancient Chinese and Egyptians who used to produce perfumes.
    Early days Christian monks were used this spirits as a medicines , they called them "aqua vitae" means water of life.

    In 800 BC, Some history says there were some evidence in India & china distilled rice to spirits, however it's not proved.
    In 14th to 15th century, Italian paintings and English illustration proves that distillation was happen in Europe countries.
    Discovery of Distillation
    Distillation word come from Latin word "Destillare".
    It is a process of heating fermented liquid to convert into High proof Alcoholic liquid.High level alcohol will kill yeast and stops fermentation.
    Alcohol boiling point is 78°c which is lesser than water boiling temperature 100°c.
    Greek philosopher,Aristotle lived in 4th century bc wrote about Distillation in this book.
    There are two different types of DISTILLATION.

    Pot still Distillation
    Traditional way of spirit Distillation was originated in Europe in sand Pot however later it was used to make by copper pot.Since copper is an excellent conductor of heat, resistant to acid and removes unwanted sulphide.
    The neck of the couple kettle is connected to a condenser, which is surrounded by cold water.
    Ancient style pot still distillation is still happening on France and Scotland.
    Patten still Distillation
    It was first stated by Mr.Robert stain in the year 1826 and was developed by Irish customs officer Mr.Aeneas Coffey in 1831.
    It has two apparatus called analyser and rectifier made of either copper or stainless steel.
    The invention of Continous still Distillation makes the spirits smoother, easy to drink.
    It was largely followed in france to produce cognac and armagnac.
