The day I graduated from UNC was the 96 title game day. I then spent the next 17 years as a season ticket holder until I couldn't take it anymore. Not even competitive!
I went to UNC for a couple years and have lived in Greeley for most of my life. Greeley itself is a pretty unattractive town for most college students, especially athletes. The town doesn't have much of a night life, it's known for the smell, and its an hourish drive from the mountains unlike CSU and CU which are farther west and have way more fun stuff to do in town. Weld county is also the most obese county in Colorado and we always joked that a UNC 10 and a CU/CSU 6, harsh but not totally untrue. The dorms are nicer than CSU and CU, but the dining halls sucked. Kay Norton was the president from 2002 to 2018 and she put the school in so much debt and continued to make poor financial choices while making huge money in bonuses when she worked there. Even though the school literally didn't have enough dorms to house everybody my freshman year they built a new student center instead of more dorms to actually house students. There is also an empty building on campus that used to be the lab school for the teaching students but that school broke off and became its own kindergarten through 12th grade charter school with a building across town back in like 2002 or something like that. So now that building sits pretty much unused except for the gym is used by the baseball team to practice in the winter time and I hear the police department uses it for active shooter drills and such. Again a waste of space and resources, instead of turning it into dorms or using the classrooms or something it just sits there. Lastly there is no school pride, no one watches the football games, most people don't even know there is a D1 baseball team, the basketball team was pretty decent though. I think the most fun sport to watch is the club hockey team and I never even watched hockey before going there. The short version is it's going to take a lot more than just a head coach to fix the program.
Your friend must not be from Northern CO😂, I’m from Colorado and I know Greeley isn’t small, over 100,000 people for sure. UNC is known for teaching degrees, nursing and a few others, and they have a really good wrestling team. That being said Greeley is in the middle of no where and does smell like sh*t
I went to NAU and my sister went to UNC the stark difference between the football team is huge. UNC plays on a field that is comparable to a mid to low tier high school in fact the high school up in flagstaff AZ has almost an identical stadium to them. UNC has no business being in D1 football at all
They are in a bad spot for recruiting locally. Colorado State and Wyoming get the tier 2 talent in the State of Colorado along with a lot of the other bordering state schools. Then on top of that where can UNC recruit outside of Colorado? Wyoming is too sparsely populated and anyone good there is going to Wyoming. Western Nebraska is the same thing. Much of Kansas is the same as well. And besides Denver and surrounding towns, Colorado is not much for population either. So they are stuck in a weird place where they have last pick for D1 talent in region and also have to go far to get guys who can play D1.
I’d be curious to see a deep dive into William jewell college. They’ve had now 4 different head coaches across 6 seasons recently, have only had only a singular winning season at the d2 level, and had the longest losing streak in d2 a few seasons back.
They were in my NAIA conference back when I played 20 years ago and the were a solid ball club with nice NAIA facilities. Like Lindenwood I didn't understand why they made the move to just get ran into the ground when they were successful at their level. Odd
The NCC was widely considered to be the toughest conference in Div. II. UNC was the first school to leave for the FCS; eventually, most of the remaining NCC schools also moved up. After the dust of the NCC’s collapse had settled, Augustana (my alma mater), Mankato & St. Cloud (the only schools left in Div. II) ended up in the Northern Sun conference. All the other former NCC schools are in the Missouri Valley football conference; if a spot should open up in that conference, UNC should go there to reunite with their old conference rivals.
UNC (University of Northern Colorado) is the most unattractive college in Colorado that I can think of next to UCCS (University of Colorado, Colorado Springs)
It’s weird how it all worked out. South Dakota state had 1 playoff appearance in 100 years and have missed the playoffs once since going FCS in 08-09? I think
UNC has no business in D-1aa. My alma mater, Pittsburg State has been dominant in D-2 for decades, with two national championships and four runners-up. We sellout our 10,000 seat stadium every game. We don't belong in D-1aa either.
I gotta say the worst D1 FCS team is Portland State and I’m a Portland State student… The school has close to zero athletic resources. They don’t even have a stadium. They’ve had the same coach since 2015, despite only having ONE winning season in that time period. They BARELY beat Northern Colorado this year 😂
Yeah, PSU was a Division 2 power in the Eighties & Nineties. They had very good fan support. But then they moved up to 1-AA around the same time the Oregon Ducks gained national prominence and Oregon State finally started fielding some competitive teams. The PSU fan base disappeared and sadly not very many people care anymore.
@@JohnOdermott Yeah the fan base is basically nonexistent. You have a few diehard fans from the 70s, 80s, and 90s (most of them former players) and a few diehard student fans. A lot of the students don’t even know we have a football team 😂 If they would’ve stayed in D2, they’d probably be in a better situation both on and off the field. Admin are talking about moving down to D2 or even NAIA or eliminating football altogether and joining a non football D1 conference
Theres a huge difference between 1aa and D2 teams. Recruiting, funding, student population, etc. I think they just assumed 1aa would be an easy transition but they peaked as a good D2 team
Unfair video. Program should not have fired McCaffrey but still worst D1??? Come on all the low level HBCU programs and even worse the non scholarship D1s all would be beat by them. Big Sky is a very tough conference with wins against Mountain West etc. Not seeing how this is supporting college football.
The program was ruined by Earnest Collins Jr. End of story. Yes, McCaffery was in over his head, but not the reason for the downfall. I had season tickets for 17 years, but didn't live in Greeley for any of those years. Last game i attended, UNC fell behind 35-0 BEFORE THEY GOT A FIRST DOWN! Literally! I wrote letters to President Norton and the AD to please fire this moron.
I wouldn’t look at an under-resourced FCS program as the worst. They’re fighting with one hand tied behind their backs. Instead, I would look at power 5 programs with lots of revenue, deep alumni pockets, etc., that consistently underperform no matter who they play. Kansas, Indiana, Duke, Vanderbilt for example. Programs like that have no excuse for consistent failure.
duke is honestly better than these other schools. they’ve had a decent amount of success since bringing in david cutcliffe, and their last hire was good enough to get hired by money printer texas a&m. 8 bowl games last 12 years and an acc championship appearance isn’t bad for a traditional bottom feeder in the ACC
“at first there were no talks about moving up to the division 1-AA level but then they had an idea: to move up to the division 1-AA level” 💀😭
TLDR the school admin got greedy and ruined the program.
What!?!?! When I was in school we were back to back national champs 96-97. Division one is crazy. The school is too small and lacks facilities.
Colorado Mesa almost made the jump not long ago but it’s definitely good they didn’t.

northern colorado is the worst
why do you talk so stupidly

Just goes to show you that players DO NOT always make the best coaches, Ed McCaffrey seemed like he didn’t give a shit but was still and asshole

didn’t st. cloud drop football?

Yes, I saw that only recently, but that didn't happen until 2020.
Hooks up roll maraudersssss see yall in September
UNC (University of Northern Colorado) is the most unattractive college in Colorado that I can think of next to UCCS (University of Colorado, Colorado Springs)
After being there for 5.5 years, I'm surprised we aren't a D2 school. We'd be far more competitive there

0-11 citadel cadets watching this :D
If you want to see a bad Div 1 school look at the Univ. of Akron
That's who I was going to mention. Akron and Eastern Michigan
Mississippi valley state university 💀
And Vanderbilt
akron is falling apart both as a terrible football program and with money
And kent state
Greeley also has a high gang rate oddly enough. Well eastside Greeley
What does that have to do with the football program😭
@@erickbergenheier5887the fact that you can’t go anywhere. Greeley used to be a fucking warzone

Just stumbled onto this channel i love your work brother keep it up man you got a new fan here🎉 🔥
UNC should drop down to Div 2
Can wrestler stay in d1? We had one of the best wrestlers I nteh country who won a national championship at 141 this year in d1
@@fuckgoogle6091 I think they can as Ive seen cases like Villanova where they are a D1 basketball school but a D3 football school.
Heard the new coach, Ed Lamb, is the right guy to turn around the program
That’s what happens without talent in a tough conference

Theyre a D1 college wrestling power
Could you please change the title of this video?
Always making great videos!
As an alumn of UNC I think we should cut the football program and throw it all to hockey and basketball.
as someone who grew up around University of Nebraska Omaha that plan is not as good as you think it is
Nah let us become a full on wrestling school at this point
Maybe I’ll coach the team when they need a new coach. I can turn the team around

They have no business being in big sky. The whole team looks like a “really good” high school team. Need to make the move to D2
lol they should just play in the MAC

Delaware state university worst football team in the FCS. D1 level
USC is the worst dollar spent per win

Kansas is actually a decent team the last few years. Same goes for Duke.
Ohio State hands down
