I am 64 years old and a long time sailor/boater. I’ve never commented on TH-cam, but was moved to do so by your incredible mental and physical toughness. You two give me hope for your generation and the future. Congratulations on “raising your threshold” and safe sails. Ray

I’m an ol guy to, and not a sailor, but soo enjoyed these two. Like you, I have such hope with so many of the youngsters. The trust for/with each other...hang on to each other. Wonderful! 😍

A few years ago my son (now 18) had to write an essay about how he thought his generation was perceived and to ask us what we thought of his generation. He seemed really surprised how optimistic my wife and I are about his generation. We are proud of our children and a lot less proud of how our generation has run things.
My children are a little younger than Dan and Kika but like you, I am hopeful for the future and trust the younger generations not to repeat (all) the mistakes we made.

The Scout motto that I first learnt as a ten year old and one which I have never forgotten, is "Be prepared". It is sound advice for life in general, not just sailing.

Hell ya! Crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a boat that you refurbished. You turned UMA from a almost scrapped boat, to a beautiful and tough ocean crossing vessel. What an accomplishment!

Amazing how things have changed. 40 years ago making passages down channel we had , a compass , RDF , paper charts and good eyes, and no auto-pilot. We had to watch the lights on boat all the time at night, forever trying to figure which way they were going , were they on a collision course etc. navigation was all DR and a little RDF to confirm rough position. Now you can cross an entire ocean sitting below most of the time! Incredible. Great passage guys, Warren

For this viewer/Uma fan: "3 happinesses" 1. You celebrating with pan fried tasty biscuits. 2. You will -hopefully- sail past beautiful Needles and Freshwater Bay [hope it's sunny!] 3. You will dock in Cowes, IOW. IOW (Isle of Wight) is my fav island in all the UK border waters. I've great memories and good friends living in the Cowes, East Cowes, Freshwater Bay area! I hope you DID tour the island. I hope we Umaites get to see your experience on IOW !

Trying to catch up on all your videos. This crossing was great! Dan you grew up in Canada so no stranger to cold but Kika from the Caribbean not so much. All I can say is Dan.. you got the best wife anyone could hope for. From hanging in there in the cold to the refit you are currently doing where she does just as much work as you. You guys are one of my favorite sailing channels. Top 2 in fact tied with Beau and brandy another great couple living their dream.

I’ve decided to go back and binge from the beginning. I’d forgotten how amazing it was to watch this first long sail for the two of you. One of the scenes that really stood out for me was the shark you caught on film (or it could have been a killer whale) that was just a quick glimpse but quite amazing to be there at that exact moment to catch it. It looked fairly large too.

I never watch TV and seldom watch movies. If I'm going to watch anything, I want to feel I haven't wasted my time. I would much rather watch something with some HUMAN INTERACTION than some action movie with car chases, explosions, stuff blowing up, burning buildings, tsunamis destroying cities, etc. You get the point. Dan and Kika have managed to make videos that are interesting travelogs and also capture their relationship, but also the relationships they have with others (although we don't see a whole lot of that). Their videos are wholesome and something you would never have to worry about the kids seeing.

I was on the delivery crew bringing one of the Newport to Cabo race boats back up the coast. It was a pitch black overcast night. The white caps were bioluminescencing. We were beating into the waves and water running down the deck looked like molten metal. It is wild to see.

Very belated congratulations but watching this has been awesome. Parts entertaining, parts escapism, parts endearing to see a couple not only loving each other but accomplishing something together - something that's pretty serious, let's be honest - I'm a total layman but you need to know your stuff and be calm and collected and disciplined for a big stretch of time.

Absolutely amazing achievement. This series shows the importance of good preparation. Well done. One thing I would offer is this:I've never crossed the Atlantic but I have sailed the Channel many times, and if suggest keeping watch on deck at all times once your in that waterway. There's so much diverse traffic and not all of if shows up on radar. Aside from shipping you get wooden fishing yawls, small craft that have no business being out there but are and there's big pieces of hazardous flotsam. It's sketchy!

a little fyi note, that fruit bar you were eating is nearly 100% fruit and natural. Its nearly the only fruit snack leather on the market that is actually a fruit supplement and needs no refrigeration. And its a canadian product. ;). When fresh fruit becomes not available they are a healthy alternative in that environment. Try chopping hem up and boiling them in oatmeal or in a hot fruit tea.

Most of my Sailing has beein in the English Channel at first I was surprised how few ships you guys were seeing on the Eastern US and Caribean - good to see that there really was a difference! Congratuations again on your crossing (again quite belated but making my way through your videos one step at a time :-)!) Congratulations again on all your achievements! Crossing the Atlantic, no drama, making it look easy - one broken latch, one broken switch, if I was supersitious I'd say Uma broke everything that was going to break on the passage to Norfolk just to make sure it was all ready :-)! Bioluminesence is gorgeous!

Congratulations to a nice boring (=uneventful, no dramas) crossing! Be careful when you step ashore. The dock can be quite wobbly (the boat will of course feel rock steady). In particular, watch out in the shower. Without an horizon, you can fall over. Also, please don't get stuck on Bramble Bank. As freshly minted transoceanic sailors, it would be a tad embarrassing. :)

Take care in the Solent it's tricky with current that can be quiet strong. Also note some shallow bits like the Brambles bank it actually dries out on low tides.
It's also very busy with ships and ferries.
Welcome to the UK have a great stay. Oh Cowes is almost shut this time of year.
