  • In this episode we will be removing the header and top fabric along with the side rails. In subsequent episodes I will show how I rebuild the side rails cans replace the top fabric Lords willing.
This episode is dedicated to the memory of my great uncle Paul who just died in Oct. He was a mechanic and worked on his fathers (who was my great grandpa) model A in the 40s. Uncle Paul also rode with me in my model A and helped advise me along the way with ways to restore it. He even gave me good sound advise about the front end while on his death bed. He was a WW2 Veteran and was 6 years old when this model A was built. Paul Smith Jan 5, 1924- Oct 21, 2022.

Don’t know how I missed this one, as I saw the top installation. Regardless, well done - as others have written - you are a brave man! Thanks for showing us ~ Chuck

Very Enjoyable... So sorry for your loss. My wife lost her 101 year old Great Grandpa in September. He was a wealth of knowledge, life lessons and stories. I will miss talking to him tremendously.

It amazes me that people can live 98 to 101 years! Uncle Paul was 98 and had almost every bit of his memory on his deathbed he had his whole life. I have videos of him talking about model as and model t's back when they were still on the road in everyday use! I may post those later. Thank you for your kind words brother.

@@pumpkintown Yes Grandpa Nathan was also sharp as a tack until the very end. Talking to him about the old days was like it happened last week. He told me all about the building of the thruway when he was in his 30s, how they would walk down and watch the progress (opened in 1954) He was a Farmer, a WW2 Paratrooper and just an amazing kind man. How blessed we are to have sat beside these men.

Are you going to buy premade wood pieces or will you make your own. I am sitting on the fence on this .

    • @pumpkintown

      Both!

I will show on the next videos but if the wood was still solid enough to hold a nail, I am leaving it in. I bought 4 new roof ribs and made my own side rails. Bought a new header and rear header.

What wood was the old pieces. My original 1930 was Douglas fir on the header, cherry in the rear headers and ash on the side rails

I would suggest using gloves when doing this kind of work. God only gave you two hands. Take care of them.
